• Impressments- kidnapping– The British would kidnap US sailors and force

them to serve in the British Navy.

• War Hawks- people who pushed for war• Native Americans teamed up with the British

Canadians to fight against settlers taking the NA’s land

Important Battles• Battle of Horseshoe Bend– Andrew Jackson defeated the Creeks

• Battle of Fort McHenry– Francis Scott Key wrote the “Star Spangled

Banner”

• Treaty of Ghent– Ended the war, but didn’t solve any problems

• Battle of New Orleans– Fought after the war ended, Jackson hero!
