Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

After 5:30pm Mass Nov. 30th

Anointing of the Sick is not just for the dying! It is the sacrament that is received by those who are ill or suffering

from physical, emotional or mental disorder at any age.

What Should I do when someone is ill?

When someone in your family or a friend is seriously ill or confined to the home for a period of time, please contact the parish office (876.2457). Will check with Father for his availability to visit, pray with the sick

person, or perhaps bring Communion. The person may also receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. It is very important that family and friends participate in the Sacrament and give witness to the solemnity

and prayerful experience of peace.

Dear Parishioners: I was at SJB for the Common Meeting Night last Monday – the “Common Meeting Night” is the occasion on which all of the Pastoral Council’s major com-mittees (Faith Formation, School Advisory Committee, Prayer and Worship, Hu-man Concerns, Stewardship) meet together, then separate to conduct individual committee business, and then re-convene to convey pertinent information to all the others; we’ve been doing this for about four months, and it’s working pretty well, I think – and while I was waiting for people to arrive, I stood at a door, gazing up Mill Street in the early evening lighting. Someone came up, stood next to me, sharing the vista with me for a moment, and said, “It’s really a nice view, isn’t it? Plymouth and Elkhart Lake really take care of their towns, don’t they?” And, not waiting for an answer, she walked off. The next day, I was sitting at my computer, trying to compose this article. Since Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, I thought I’d write something seasonally light and up-lifting; but every time I started to write, some dark and sinister specter would cross before me – rioting in Hong Kong, refugees in Syria, impeachment hearings in Washington, mass shootings here and there, red-blue polarized government,. etc., ad nauseam. Ramping it down to the local level didn’t help much: cancers, falls, leukemia, dementia . . . so many crosses for people to bear! Seems to me that one possible response might be to stop, take a look around at what we do have here in Plymouth and in Elkhart Lake, and be deeply grateful for all that such a panoramic view takes in. At the same time, we should be quick to thank God for what we do NOT have here mayhem, disaster and violence. Having uttered our brief (or not-so-brief) prayer, may we then ask for the grace to be of some degree of assistance to those around us who do carry a cross of one kind or another this Season.

Immaculate Conception 2019

Reminder: The December 8 Feast of the Immaculate Conception falls on a Sunday this year, which happens to be the Second Sunday of Advent. Therefore, the liturgy of the feast day transfers to Monday, December 9, but the obligation to attend Mass is lifted this year only (obligation does not transfer with the date). There are no December 8 Masses of

Anticipation for the feast day. This year STA will not have an Immaculate Conception Mass
