News from St. John Vianney Catholic School — 926-7987 The new school year is here! Students return to school on Tuesday, September 3. Our growth continues as we begin the year with 23 new students from 10 new families. We still have space in all grades, and it's not too late to register. Call the office at 926-7987 for more information. We’ve made several improvements to the facility this summer, and one of the biggest improvements is the installation of a video access control system on the front door. The safety of the children is our highest priority, and thanks to your generosity at the auction last spring, we are in the process of making the front door more secure. Rather than leaving the front door unlocked all day, we will now be able to grant access to the school via a video intercom system. We hope to have the system installed by the first day of school or shortly thereafter. Another visible improvement you will see this year are new crucifixes, thanks to a grant from the Catholic Foundation of Eastern Washington. These beautiful 20” crucifixes will replace the smaller crucifixes in each room of the school, including the library and gym, and will help express our Catholic identity and give students a more visible focus for their classroom prayers. Finally, we are getting closer to the installation of the Project Learning Garden! The five raised bed gardens will be installed on the morning of Tuesday, September 24, with a big media event. The entire parish is invited to attend this exciting event, which will take place between 9 and 11 a.m. More details will be available as the event approaches. We want to thank Julie Patton and the garden committee for all their work on this great project.
