Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

This weekend, our whole nation celebrates Labor Day, the day set aside to honor the value and dignity of human labor. The Book of Genesis, the first Book of the Bible, tells us that God labored creating the whole universe including human beings, then He put them in charge of His creation by commanding them to work as well: “Then the Lord God planted a garden in Eden, in the East, and there he put the man he had formed…, Then the Lord God placed the man in the Garden of Eden to cultivate it and guard it.” (Gen 2:8 & 15). Labor may take different forms, it can be a job or whatever one does to earn a living; but it also refers to volunteer work or work at home such as taking care of oneself or loved ones. Whatever work we do, we are co-creators with God and stewards of His creation, we are cooperating with God to make this world a better place for all and to fulfill God’s will intended for creation. By working, we are helping our-selves, our families, our neighbors, and ultimately we are God’s helping hands in this created world. On this Labor Day, let us recognize and honor the value and dignity of human labor. Let us thank God for the talents and work He has given us to do. Let us thank God for the success of our hands and the health and the energy needed to fulfill our work. Let us also remember to pray for the less fortunate, that they may be able find work that will sustain their families, nurture their children and secure their future.

May St. Joseph the Worker bless the fruits of our labor and sustain us always in his protective care. Fr. Joe Pham

Happy Labor Day to All!

“Be compassionate as your heavenly Father is compassionate” (Luke 6:36).

As we have been through the hardship of the current pandemic, I believe that it has had a great financial impact upon every one of us.

However, as Christians, we are called to be compassionate like our Father in heaven, that is, to reach out and share the burdens of those who are less fortune than us. For this reason, I am earnestly appealing to each one of you for your generous gifts to the House of Charity. Your sacrificial gifts during this challenging time would be so meaningful and essential to these compassionate ministries in our Diocese:

- Care and Education of Seminarians - Care of Elderly Priests - Social & Community Services - Compassionate Outreach - Catholic Education - Youth and Campus Ministry - Vitality Catholic Healthcare Services

As the theme for this year’s House of Charity is “Faces of Hope”, let us embrace this theme by sacrificing our financial means to support the above ministries since so many people are putting their “Faces of Hope” in them. Please make a check payable to “House of Charity-Bishop Annual Appeal”. You may drop it in the col-lection basket at any weekend Mass or mail it to the rectory. My profound gratitude is extended to all of you for your sacrifices and your willingness to support this noble cause. Fr. Joe Pham.

Parish Goal - $136,900.00 Received - 299 gifts - $119,862.13

S3030/A4848 - The Reproductive Freedom Act

In October 2020, S3030/A4848 “The Reproductive Free-dom Act” (RFA) (an oxymoron in light of how children die because of it) was introduced in the New Jersey Leg-islature. If passed, this legislation would expand New Jersey’s already permissive abortion laws.

On October 5, 2020, the Catholic Bishops of New Jersey issued a statement opposing the legislation and reaf-firmed the Catholic Church’s commitment to protect to the dignity of all life from conception to natural death.

At this time, the legislature has not advanced S3030/A4848. The New Jersey Catholic Conference (NJCC) is closely monitoring the situation and will send out an ac-tion alert once we know when the bill will move.

In the meantime, NJCC encourages you to learn more about S3030/A4848 RFA by visiting:

https://njcatholic.org/reproductive-freedom-act Here you will find several resources (English and Span-ish) on the RFA, including the New Jersey Bishop’s statement opposing the legislation, a webinar outlining the main points of this legislation, Key Points Fact Sheet.

Finally, if you have not done so already, please sign up to receive the New Jersey Catholic Conference updates on this legislation and other important public policy issues at 856-756-7900. Questions? contact Ann (above).
