BELIEVING IN THE EXTRAORDINARY I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible….

We say these words at Mass each week but do we really stop and think about what they mean? One God...Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible! Stop and think now, this statement means that God alone created everything we know, everything we haven't heard of yet and things we will never know. EVERYTHING. In order to progress in faith we need to be open to the depth of these words. It is only then that God can help us make sense of our faith. It is only then that we can look at a Host and see Jesus. It is only then that we can look at a crucifix and see the love of God. It is when we remember that God made everything and therefore knows everything and therefore holds the true answer to everything that we will begin to understand our faith as it should be. Are you ready? Are you partly there? Are you just starting to

think about faith in these terms? What holds you back?

PRACTICE: Contemplate these things before the Blessed Sacrament. Speak to God about where you are in your faith.

Ask Him to help you believe. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament Every Friday 9:00am to 9:00pm in the Chapel of Adoration

Recognizing God’s Tools Have you ever asked yourself “Who am I?” You know that you are a child of God and that there is a purpose to your life, but in your earthly, day to day existence, you don’t feel like you have direction. I’ve been there and finally I realized a very important lesson. I wasn’t using the tools God gave me to make my life purposeful and fulfilling. God wants you to be happy, God forgives you, and God believes in you. The problem with your lack of fulfillment, direction, or purpose is not because of God; it is because of you. What you have forgotten is that you have complete control over happiness. God wants you to live a rewarding life, but he can’t insist that you feel happy. He can’t rattle and shake unhappiness out of you. He gives you prayerful tools but they mean nothing if you don’t use them. If you choose not to “use” the tools he provides, you will always wonder why you feel unfulfilled or unhappy. When I was much younger I was more negative than I was positive. I always saw what was wrong with life, with me, and even with others. I failed to recognize that each of these negative reactions were keeping me from happiness. I had to figure out a way to get past the negativity and there was only one way to do that. Like learning a new language, I had to practice. Every time a negative thought entered my mind, I had to consciously notice it and change it. Simple things like “it is cloudy and dreary out today,” to “what a great day to relax and take a nap;” or “nothing ever goes right for me,” to “how can I use this difficult situation to my benefit?” Just like repeating “how are you” in any language, I eventually became fluent in replacing the negative with the positive. When you are positive, you start to naturally establish happiness. Learning to be positive is one of God’s strongest tools. Forgiveness is another difficult action that needs to be manipulated by God’s tools. He readily forgives you when you seek reconciliation. The problem with forgiveness lies not with God, but with you. He is open to you and listening and absolves you, but have your forgiven yourself? I recall many times when I was relieved of my burdens, thanks to God’s forgiveness. Still, in the back of my mind regret lingered. I couldn’t shake the very thing that I had done for which I was ashamed or embarrassed about, the thing that went against God’s wishes. God’s greatest forgiveness tool, reconciliation, only fully works if you allow it, and that involves not just God, but you. Regrets can grab hold of you and cling like a piece of lint on your finest Sunday suit. Every time you wear that suit the piece of lint will be there. If you don’t pull that piece of lint off, it will remain. I use God as a way to remove my lint, or my regrets. By allowing his forgiveness to become my forgiveness, I can finally move on. I cannot change what’s happened in my past, but I can change how I feel going forward. I can make the decision to be positive and proactive. It is not easy, but it is doable. Every tool on earth needs to be put into motion to do its job. A hammer sitting on a table only works if I pick it up and swing it into action. If you are stuck with negativity or regrets, it’s time you picked God’s tools up off the table. God’s biggest tool is that he believes in you. When you want to try something new, make a change for the better, or achieve a goal, you have an instant supporter! If you concern yourself with what God thinks, you will never feel failure again. Failure only comes into play when you worry about what other people think. I’ve felt many callings in my life. Wife, mother, martial artist, and friend. The most recent calling was “writer.” Clearly I heard God whisper to me that my dormant talent needed to be revived for the benefit of helping others. I did not hear distinct words from God, but rather a nudging that he believes in me. His belief in me allowed me to push fear of failure and rejection aside and to only worry only about what God thinks of me. God’s tools are the means and ways by which he wants you to hear and live and act upon His message. I’ve had many ups and downs in my life, just like you. And, while I profess all of these wonderful ways to find

happiness, forgiveness, and self-worth, I am still learning how to master God’s tools in my own life. There are plenty of days when I leave the hammer on the table, forget to remove the lint, or question my own actions and decisions. Knowing that I can implement God’s powerful tools at any given mo-ment is what always pulls me through. One thing is clear; clearer than I care to admit. When I apply God’s tools to my life, and take the

actions that are necessary to live according to His will, part of which includes finding happiness,

forgiving myself, and feeling worthy, I never find myself asking the question… “Who am I?” Andrea
