August 14, 2016 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time REFLECTIONS FOR EUCHARISTIC ADORATION GOD'S LOVE AND HIS WILL: A FINAL REFLECTION An official asked him this question, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments, ‘You shall not commit adultery; you shall not kill; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; honor your father and your mother.’”

And he replied, “All of these I have observed from my youth.” When Jesus heard this he said to him, “There is still one thing left for you: sell all that you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have a treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” But when he heard this he became quite sad, for he was very rich. Luke 18-23 We often equate God’s will and His love for us with how well life is going, with how well our plans work out for us. We think of God's will as whether we should take a new job, develop a talent, or move to a new city. Notice, however, that God's love and His will are about something much greater. They are about forming and maintaining a good, a “right” relationship with Him. They are about focusing our lives totally on God and His ways. PRACTICE: Reflect on the following teaching from the old Baltimore Catechism about our purpose in life: God made us to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to be happy with Him forever in Heaven. Study Christ’s teachings in any of the gospels. Notice they all reflect this purpose in life. This is what Jesus tries to teach us over and over again. Study all you can about the Commandments and the Beatitudes. Make it a lifelong project to use them as your guide to a great relationship with God, as your guide to Heaven.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Friday 9:00am to 9:00pm in the Chapel of Adoration. The Divine Mercy
