Pentecost Sunday June 8, 2014

There appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them.

— Acts 2:3

Candle Room Candles in our Catholic Christian tradition evoke lots of fond memories, lots of special occasions and events. We have candle light processions, candle light services, midnight masses with candle lights and especially candles lit in memory of our dear departed and devotional candle lights for various intentions. We have also candle lit dinners!

Lighting a candle is something very special. It somehow reminds the presence of the divine. Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12) That is why we have candles lit for Holy Masses and other religious services. It reminds us of the presence of the light of the world in our midst.

Saint Felicitas Church has had a candle room from the beginning of the Church. As everything changes and needs upgrading and renovation, we are in the process of introducing electric candles in the candle room. Many churches in the diocese have already transitioned to electric candles as it is highly encouraged by the insurance company.

I am sure some people would really miss the ritual of lighting the candle and the real fire. I pray that they too will be able to adjust to the change gracefully and in a loving manner.

Opportunity for donation

The total expense for the candle room is about $29,000. If anybody would like to donate the entire amount we will dedicate the candle room to the family or persons who have made the donation.

Below are sets of candles on stands or as wall hangers that families can donate in memory of their loved ones:

1. Candles around the statue of Sacred Heart - $3500

2. Candles before Our Lady of Guadalupe - $7000

3. Candles near the icon of St. Jude/St. Michael -$7000

4. Candles near the crucifix - $2300

5. Candles near the Statue of our Lady of Fatima - $2300

6. Candles near Saint Anthony’s statue - $2300

8. Candles near the Black Nazarene - $2300

9. Candles near the Blessed Virgin (Vietnamese) - $2300

May it help us to grow in our devotion and prayer life. Thank you for your generosity.

Father Augustine

Dear Parishioners,

Nearly 2 years ago these young men and women began their journey of formal preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation.

Throughout this time they have been prayerfully guided and encouraged by our pastor, Fr. Augustine, our entire St. Felicitas community, youth leaders, their families, sponsors, and most importantly by one another. They have taken this time of preparation seriously as they explored the importance of God's Word, the wisdom of the traditions of the Roman Catholic Church, the life examples of holy men and women, and the grace imparted through the sacraments, especially as experienced through the Rite of Confirmation.

They have reflected on the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit already apparent in their lives and have begun to share these gifts in service throughout the community and expressed a sincere desire to be strengthened in these gifts in order to continue to be of even greater service to God's people.

All the youth leaders, Sr. Bernadette, Mercy Zamora and I believe that they have clearly demonstrated both the understanding and spiritual readiness to confirm their faith and become adult members of the Catholic Church.

Therefore, on behalf of the entire youth ministry team, I hereby am proud and honor to present to you the following newly confirmed Catholic’s from our parish!
