This is the invitation God gave each of us, individually and as a community. Lent is a time to experience conversion of mind and heart—to experience God’s love for each one of us.

Whatever economic problems we have, whatever family problems, whatever parish problems—they are ultimately spiritual problems. If we give God first place, the rest will follow. (Fr. Phil Bloom)

Lent is a time to get our priorities in order. Make a commitment of time to the Lord. Put God first and everything else will fall in place.

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18th. You are all invited to begin the Lenten journey together.

Soup and Stations of the cross begin on Thursday evening, February 26th. Soup starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Gym followed by Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. in Church. I hope to see you there. Please pray for one another during the wonderful season of Lent.

The St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) conference request food donations from our parish family. The conference will hold a parish wide food drive to assist the families in our community. Donation boxes will be available at the church the weekend of Saturday February 28th-Sunday March 1st, 2015. We are asking for non perishable food items. Peanut butter, jelly, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta and pasta sauce, canned soup, fruit juice, pork and beans, canned tuna, canned meat, canned pasta, macaroni & cheese, canned beans, sugar, salt, ketchup, and mayonnaise. Also monetary donations and Safeway/Lucky gift cards are greatly appreciated. All items donated goes to help people in need. I want to call to your attention once again this week to the request of the Bishop for input to give to the Synod on Marriage and the Family that will meet in Rome this coming October. Marriage and Family are extremely important values for all of us. But there are many difficulties in our lives and our cultures that the church needs to respond to. You can be of significant help in this effort. Pope Francis and the Synod Fathers have sought this input from all members of the church, all levels, all walks of life and life experience. A questionnaire has been created that I ask you to fill out on line in the next week. It is available in both English and Spanish and can be found at: www.oakdiocese.org/survey . Please give this your attention. The participation of all is needed.

Happy St. Valentine’s Weekend! We had a fantastic crab feed last Saturday Night. It was a great celebration of our community! Thank you so much to all of you that participated! A huge thank you to Justine Chan who was the chairperson and has been organizing and working on the crab feed for months. We had so much help from parent helpers and the 8th graders did a great job serving! The money we raise for all our events will be going to our biggest School Board projects - the Preschool and the lunch table covering.

We are still currently looking for a Preschool Director for our preschool that will be opening this fall. If you know anyone please have them call the office and submit a current resume.

The season of Lent is starting on Wednesday and I look forward to traveling the Lenten journey with all of you. I was recently reminded when reviewing the significance and background of Ash Wednesday, that “Without a community you cannot be enriched by others or enrich them. For it is only through the context of community that we continue to find a relationship with God.” (www.bustedhalo.com) I look forward to growing closer to God within the enriching context of this wonderful St. Felicitas Parish family. Nhân dịp Tết Ất Mùi sắp đến, Đức Cha Michael C. Barber, SJ. GM Giáo Phận Oakland vừa ban phép miễn chuẩn không Ăn Chay Kiêng thịt vào Thứ Tư Lễ Tro (18/2/2015) và Thứ Sáu của tuần đầu Mùa Chay (20/2/2015). Nhưng mỗi người nên làm một hành động bác ái và phải dành một ngày khác ăn chay kiêng thịt để thay thế lại.

Cộng Đoàn Nữ Vương Hoà Bình Suy niệm những ngày Xuân

Ngày Xuân hay còn gọi là ngày Tết là khởi đầu của một năm mới, là dịp lễ quan trọng và linh thiêng trong một năm. Ngày tết với những giờ phút rất linh thiêng gọi là giao thừa. Một thời khắc giao thoa giữa cũ và mới. Giữa quá khứ và hiện tại. Một thời khắc con người như muốn chuyển mình cùng vạn vật, hoà mình vào chốn tâm linh, bỏ lại phía sau bao nỗi ưu tư, vất vả truân chuyên trong cuộc sống. Một thời khắc tràn đầy niềm lạc quan hy vọng cho một năm mới an bình, hạnh phúc và thịnh vượng. Ngày Tết còn là dịp để gia đình dòng tộc sum họp. Dù ai đi ngược về xuôi cũng muốn trở về đoàn tụ với gia đình trong giây phút linh thiêng ấy. Quây quần bên bàn thờ, thắp lên nén hương trầm trên bàn thờ tổ tiên để tưởng nhớ tới ông bà, cha mẹ những người đã nuôi nấng sinh thành ra mình nay đã khuất. Vì cây có cội, nước có nguồn. Con người cũng phải nhớ về tổ tiên để tỏ lòng tri ân và cầu mong các ngài chúc phúc cho một năm mới bình an. Trong giây phút giao thừa, mỗi thành viên trong gia đình thường lần lượt chúc tuổi nhau. Con cháu chúc mừng ông bà mạnh khoẻ sống lâu. Ông bà cha mẹ mừng tuổi lại con cháu chăm ngoan, học giỏi, thảo hiếu, vâng lời. … Ngày Tết người lớn thường không quên lì xì cho con cháu với một ý nghĩa tượng trưng, mong sang một năm mới con cháu sẽ gặt hái được nhiều điều tốt đẹp. Mùa xuân không chỉ hướng lòng con người đến với nhau mà mùa Xuân còn hướng chúng ta đến Đấng tạo thành. Chính Ngài đã làm cho con tạo xoay vần có Xuân – Hạ – Thu – Đông. Chính Ngài đã tô điểm cho mùa xuân thêm rạng ngời. Hôm nay ngày đầu xuân chúng ta cũng cám ơn Ngài đã dẵn dắt cuộc đời chúng ta đi qua những thăng trầm của giòng đời. Chúng ta đến Nhà Thờ dâng Thánh lễ để cảm nhận được sự giao hoà của trời đất. Để gởi gắm vào chốn linh thiêng những ưu từ hoài bão lên Đấng Tạo Thành. Chính nơi đây, con người cũng tìm thấy sự thanh thoát, nhẹ nhàng cho tâm hồn như những làn khói nhẹ bay vào chốn không trung. Người Công Giáo chúng ta luôn nhìn nhận Thiên Chúa là chủ thời gian. Thiên Chúa sắp đặt mọi vận hành của trời đất và con người. Thế nên, gửi gắm tâm tình lên Đấng Tạo Thành trời đất là lẽ thường tình. Chỉ có Ngài mới giúp con người đạt được ước nguyện của mình. Thế nên, hôm nay trong những ngày đầu Xuân mỗi người hãy để lòng mình thanh thản nương theo thánh ý Chúa. Hãy trao vào tay Chúa những ưu phiền lắng lo. Hãy đặt niềm tin trọn vẹn vào Thiên Chúa Tình Yêu vì Ngài luôn muốn điều tốt đẹp cho con cái Ngài. Xin phó thác mọi sự trong tay Chúa quan phòng qua sự dẫn dắt của Mẹ Maria. Xin cầu chúc cho nhau một Năm Mới ấm áp Tình Chúa – Tình Người. (Lm.Jos Tạ Duy Tuyền)

Comunidad, Una vez más deseo Ilamarles su atención en esta semana, en la que el obispo nos ha pedido que compartamos nuestros pensamientos con el Sinodo sobre el Matrimonio y la Familia que se reunirá en Roma este octubre. El matrimonio y la familia tienen un valor muy alto para nosotros. Pero hay muchas dificultades en nuestras vidas y en nuestra cultura a las que la Iglesia necesita responder. Usted puede ser de gran ayuda en este esfuerzo. El Papa Francisco y los Padres Sinodales han buscado aportaciones de todos los miembros de la Iglesia, de todos los niveles, y con todo tipo de experiencias. Les pido que en la siguiente semana, Ilenen el cuestionario que fue desarrollado para este proyecto. Está disponible en inglés y español y se puede encontrar en www.oakdiocese.org/survey . LECTURAS DE HOY

Primera lectura — El leproso habitará solo, fuera del campamento (Levítico 13:1-2, 44-46). Salmo — Perdona, Señor, nuestros pecados (Salmo 32 [31]). Segunda lectura — Haz todo por la gloria de Dios; sean imitadores de Cristo (1 Corintios 10:31 — 11:1). Evangelio — Jesús, después de haber curado a un hombre leproso, le pide que no se lo cuente a nadie (Marcos 1:40-45).

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE

Jesús manifiesta su poder mediante el perdón de los pecados (Marcos 2:1-12). Por medio de la reconciliación con Dios, Jesús sana a los enfermos, marginalizados y hasta sus propios enemigos. Este poder de perdonar pecados Jesús mismo lo encarga a su Iglesia, infundiendo su Espíritu sobre los primeros discípulos (Juan 20:22-23).

Según el Símbolo (Credo) de los Apóstoles, los cristianos cree-mos en el “perdón de los pecados”. Esta creencia se relaciona con creer en el Espíritu Santo, la Iglesia, la comunión de los santos, la resurrección del cuerpo y la vida eterna. En el perdón de los pecados, el Espíritu Santo manifiesta su continua presencia y acción en la Iglesia y comunión de los santos. Quienes reciben el perdón de los pecados mediante la celebración del Bautismo o del sacramento de la Reconciliación, están preparados para la resurrección y la vida eterna. El perdón de los pecados manifiesta el poder de Cristo, del Espíritu Santo y de la Iglesia. Los cristianos estamos llamados al perdón; perdonando, así como deseamos ser perdonados.
