What is Alpha Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith, typically run over eleven weeks. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run all around the globe, and everyone is welcome.

Update on Sister Eileen Christie from the Sisters of St. Joseph:

During the spring, the Upper Austrian Police and rescue workers conducted another search of Lake Hall-statt. It was a very large recovery force using new equip-ment and a team of twenty five divers. Sister Eileen was not found. The American Em-bassy in Vienna was told that the divers believe she has drifted to greater depths in the lake, which is 100 me-ters deep in some places. We expect the official police report in the near future. At that time, the State Depart-ment can begin the process to obtain the Certificate of

Presumed Death Abroad. We are grateful for the extensive search made last summer, and for this sec-ond round of searching after the winter thaw. The Austrian Police have done all that can be done, and we are thankful for their efforts.

We ask all to pray that Sister Eileen now rests in the loving embrace of our God, and for peace for her family and friends.

Protect Your Loved Ones and the Environment Dispose of all unused prescription drugs (most especially opioids and narcotics) that are in your medicine cabinet or anywhere else in your home. Vulnerable family members and even visitors can find and abuse them. Don’t flush them away and pollute the water system. There’s a safe drop box at the SCPD Second Precinct, 1071 Park Avenue, Hunting-ton or the Elwood Public Library

The Celebration of the Sacraments

Baptism Baptisms are normally celebrated at 2:00PM on scheduled Sundays in a month. Please call the Parish office to arrange for a meeting with a Parish Priest and to register for the baptismal class which is normally held on the 4th Monday of each month at 7:30PM.

Marriage Couples should make an appointment with a Priest at least eight months prior to the wedding. A Marriage Preparation Program is required.

Anointing of the Sick Anyone seriously ill, elderly, or prior to an operation should be anointed with the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. Please speak with one of the Priests to make the arrangements.

Communion for the Homebound Anyone who cannot attend Mass due to illness or age may receive Communion at home. Please call the Rectory office to make arrangements.

Reconciliation (Confession) Every Saturday and Eve of Holy Days from 4:00PM to 4:45PM in the Church and on the Thursday before the First Friday of every month after the 9:00AM Mass. Individual confessions may be arranged by calling the Rectory office. Interested in becoming a Catholic or completing

your Sacraments? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults are brought into the Catholic Church. AUGUST 13, 2017 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus. But when he saw how strong the wind was, he became frightened.” How can we describe Peter? At once faithful and fearful, his jumbled responses remind us that he was no spiritual superman, well intentioned though he may have been. Peter wanted to believe, and in fact showed a great deal of confidence in Christ, but the temptation to doubt was strong enough to knock him off his feet, literally. “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” Jesus repri-manded Peter. The words seem harsh. After all, Peter was the only one who had enough faith to even try something as ludi-crous as stepping out of the boat onto the water in the first place. But perhaps Jesus wanted to emphasize that our faith needs to be strong enough to weather the storm, so to speak. If we only believe in Jesus when the wind is calm and the waves are gone, is that truly having faith in Him? Is that actually trusting in his supreme power over the forces of the universe? Peter began to sink as soon as a challenge appeared. Jesus called Him, and He calls us, to stay on our feet even when the winds begin to blow. So, what are the winds that threaten our faith? What kinds of gusts are blowing today? Whatever it might be—health problems, financial concerns, relational struggles—none of it is too much for Jesus to handle. But we must step out in faith and trust Him! And we need to keep our eyes on Him as we do so, instead of getting distracted by the force of the chal-lenges we face. Jesus is bigger than any problem. We have nothing to fear as long as we are walking towards Him.

Midnight Run Our annual Midnight Run to feed and clothe the homeless, living on the streets in Manhattan, is always the most an-

ticipated event of the year. It takes weeks of collecting, sorting, folding and packing all sorts of clothing, from socks to overcoats.

That concludes our youth group program for the school year, but, we continue with our very successful PBJ program taking place on the last Saturday of the month. All, and we mean ALL, are welcome to join us.

Why do members pray before the exposed sacrament? When praying before the Eucharist exposed, the mind and heart more easily give themselves to communion with Christ. By focusing attention on the sacramental sign of the memorial of the Lord in a spirit of adoration, thanksgiving, atonement, and petition, mem-bers seek to internalize and give witness to the significance of the Eucharist for Christian life.

Why do members pray at night? For reasons of convenience. For many people living in a fast-paced society, a night hour is often more easily set aside for prayer than one during the day and lends itself to praying in quiet, calm, and recollection. For reasons of symbolism. Keeping vigil during the hours of the night, an ancient tradition among Christians, draws attention to God as the source of light and goodness amid hu-man weakness and sin, and also stimulates a sense of spiritual preparedness & expectation.

Nocturnal Adoration

Nocturnal Adoration is an association of Catholics – no age limit – dedicated to prayer in the name of the whole commu-nity and of the Church, before the Blessed Eucharist, for the praise of God and for the needs of the church and the world at large. Gennesaret Retreat

Gennesaret Retreat for those facing serious illness. A retreat especially designed for persons who live with a serious illness is planned September 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2017 at Montfort Spirituality Center in Bay Shore, NY. This retreat offers a respite, a quiet time, an oasis, to enable one to continue the journey. The retreat focuses on God’s love, His forgiveness, and His faithfulness. Eucharistic Ministers for the homebound are avail-able for anyone who is sick, injured, or has had re-cent surgery or is unable to attend weekly Mass but would like to receive Com-munion. St. Anthony’s Holy Hour

St. Anthony’s Holy Hour is held from 1pm until 2pm on Wednesdays on a regular weekly basis. It begins with Exposition of the monstrance at 1pm & con-cludes at 2pm following Benediction. The service includes hymns (O Salutaris, Tantum Ergo), Scripture reading, preaching, and silent prayer.

Ministry of Consolation

The Ministry of Consolation needs volunteers to console and support families in our parish who have suffered the loss of a loved one in the plan-ning of the Funeral Liturgy for the loved one. The above items can be dropped off at Parish Outreach between the hours of 10:15AM and 1:45 PM or left in the SVDP bin in the rear of the Church. We will need all items by August 21st.

“Feed My Lambs” is the weekly request of the SVDP Society to parishioners to bring to church the one or two items that the Food Pantry is in low supply of.

This week’s food item(s) are: Cereal, Rice, Tunafish, box juices,

Chunky soups, crackers, canned fruit

Of course any other items you wish to donate will be grate-fully accepted, but the item that we are concentrating on will help us ensure that this item will be in supply for our clients.

All items can be left in the rear of the Church before and after all the weekend Masses. During the week items can be

brought to Parish Outreach, Monday -Friday between the hours of 10:00AM and 2:00PM.

Dr. Raymond Mascolo of Mascolo Dental, East Northport presented a check for $500 to Thomas Zenobia, winner of the Annual Bridget De Pascquale Scholarship sponsored by Mascolo Dental.
