OUR MISSIONSaint Anthony of Padua Parish is a welcoming, loving Catholic community, centered in Christ and guided by the Holy Spirit.
Together we celebrate the liturgy in prayer and sacrament; we educate our children and adults in the faith; we support and reach out to those in need.
We believe the Holy Spirit is calling us to con-tinue: to love one another as Jesus loves us, to share the word of God and to serve both within and beyond our Parish family.

Pastor’s Pen
Generations of faith-filled Catholic people have passed on to us the most precious gift that we possess - the gift of faith. As this generation’s “good stewards,” we are obligated to pass on the gift of faith to our chil-dren.
Children primarily learn through the examples of their parents. Today, many parents are vol-unteering their time and talents to their churches and community groups and bringing their children along with them.
More and more churches are encouraging children to return a portion of their “treasure” - their allowance or other earnings - with special children’s offering envelopes. As we know from our own experience, it takes a lifetime to develop the habits of good steward-ship.
God has blessed us in so many marvelous ways. Stewardship is a way of life built around gratitude to God, lived out by returning a portion of the time, talent, and treasure allotted to us. There is no more precious inheritance we can pass on to our children than this lifestyle of gratitude.
“If you will give these instructions . . ., you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nour-ished on the words of the faith and of the sound teaching you have followed.” (1 Timothy 4:6) Stewardship Appeal Update Our Stewardship Appeal is being very well received by the people of SAINT ANTHONY OF PADUA. To date, 128 households have increased their weekly contribution in response to our stewardship of treasure program, representing a combined weekly increase of $1,533.80.
Please use the Special Response form to indicate your new level of giving, and then return to your regular envelope packet for succeeding weeks. If you are interested in receiving information on our Electronic Giving Program, please contact the parish office.

Sunday Scripture Reflection Please Pray
November 25, 2018 Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
If you brought your child to the restroom during the Liturgy of the Word, you might walk away with one of two interpretations of Jesus as King. The first and second readings are bold and victorious. We see Christ coming on the clouds for the final judgment of heaven and earth. The Gospel sets a very different tone. Jesus is under arrest and facing death before Pontius Pilate. We know how this story will end. So if Christ is King, what does it mean? Is he a glori-ous conqueror or a suffering servant?
“My kingdom does not belong to this world.” Here is the heart of Jesus’ reign. He is a king — and his “subjects” are alive and well on earth — but, ultimately, Jesus’ king-dom transcends our earthly concepts of power. Jesus faced down the temptation of a solely earthly kingship. At the close of his 40 days in the desert, the devil offered him the kingdoms of the world. Jesus only had to sacrifice his heav-enly values and worship Satan. The same temptations to distort the kingship of Christ are present to us today. Jesus’ invitation also endures. “Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” It is important for us to belong to the full truth of Christ’s kingdom.
First, our own hearts must be transformed. Our own rebellions in favor of selfishness and against holiness must be conquered by God’s grace. Second, we must work to trans-form the world as best we can in our own corner of it. Like Jesus shows us by his life and death, this doesn’t mean domi-nation. It means service, sacrifice, respect, and love. Our lives must “testify to the truth” of Jesus Christ, who lays down his life for his people. That is the true beauty of Christ the King!

CHANGES IN OUR ST VINCENT DE PAUL HOLIDAY PROGRAMS
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL CHRISTMAS GIFT TREE – this year we are asking for UNWRAPPED gifts and gift cards. As has been the tradition at St. Anthony’s, our parishioners can make a real difference in some-one’s Christmas by participating in our Christmas Gift Tree Program. This year our program will be servicing our needy families in our community and approximately 250 children.
The giving tree will go up November 17th so please stop by the Church Vestibule and select the tags your family would like. The types of tags that will be on the tree will include:
tags for toys/gifts for children tags marked “gift certificate” so each parent can purchase clothing for them as well. We ask that
you purchase gift certificates in the local area stores such as Target, Old Navy, Kohls, etc. tags marked for food store certificates to help us with their Christmas meals. tags marked especially for the teens to receive a gift card packet so they can enjoy a special treat
of their choice
NOTE: THIS YEAR, we ask that the gifts be UNWRAPPED with the tag attached so we can identify the recipient, and gift cards be separate with the amount noted and with the tag attached, or marked SVDP Christmas program. Since our gifts will be distributed to the families on 12/16, please deliver all gifts and gift card to the rectory no later than Friday, 12/14 so we can sort the gifts on the 15th.
Thank you for your continued generosity!

Saint Anthony of Padua Spanish Speaking Ministry
On Tuesday evening, December 11th, we are having the Rosary at 6 PM, followed by Mass at 7 PM Then we will be celebrating the apparition of our lady of Guadalupe for the rest of the night. There will be Mariachi music in the gymnasium plus food etc. We are also having a live reenactment of the story. If you’d like to have the full experience of how the Catholic people in many of the Latin American countries celebrate this metrical even just for one night, join us. Not only do we have faith we have fun! This is a tradition among many Mexicans plus many other people from Latin America. Come and be part of it. Don’t worry about the language barrier, we will help you out. This celebration will continue past midnight. This event is being funded by private contributions from the Spanish-speaking community.
