Dear Friends, Welcome back to an exciting term ahead, especially with our Primary Olympics, Science Expo, Musical and India Mission Trip. We are already extremely busy with many activities and events and more than likely you are the same with your family, church and work. We constantly need to check our radar, and check that what we are doing is what God intends us to do each day. It is so easy as a school to become distracted from our main tasks as there are so many worthwhile activities and programs we could undertake and pursue. Our main activity at St Andrews is of course ‘education’ and we are committed to delivering the best Christian education we can for your child/ren and are continually embedding a culture of continuous improvement and development in all areas of the College. In all our tasks we keep focused on Jesus, seeking Him and His perfect ways. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 I have kept the following article for several years (from “A Word for Today – Vision Radio”) and pray that we don’t miss out on God’s intentions and desires for each of us and for the school by being too busy. Blessings on your week,
Catriona Wansbrough

FROM THE PRINCIPAL
ARE YOU TOO B-U-S-Y “...That Satan might not outwit us...” 2 Corinthians 2:11 Addressing a worldwide convention of demons, Satan told them: “as long as Christians stay close to God we’ve no power over them, so: 1) Keep them busy with non-essentials 2) Tempt them to overspend and go into debt 3) Make them work long hours to maintain empty lifestyles 4) Discourage them from spending family time, for when
homes disintegrate there’s no refuge from work 5) Overstimulate their minds with television and computers 6) Fill their coffee tables and nightstands with newspapers
and magazines so they’ve no time for Bible reading 7) Flood their letter boxes with sweepstakes, promotions
and get-rich quick schemes; keep them chasing material things
8) Put glamorous models on TV and on magazine covers to keep them focused on outward appearances; that way they’ll be dissatisfied with themselves and their mates
9) Emphasis Santa and the Easter Bunny; that way you’ll divert them from the real meaning of Christmas and Easter
10) Involve them in “good” causes so they won’t have any time for “eternal” ones
11) Make them self-sufficient. Keep them so busy working in
their own strength they’ll never know the joy of God’s
power working through them. Do these 11 things
faithfully. I promise – it’ll work.”
Have you figured out the difference between being busy and
being successful in what God has called you to do? Sometimes
being B-U-S-Y just means Being Under Satan’s Yoke!
Ever told your child,
We’ll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not seen his sorrow?
Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say “Hi”?
You’d better slow down.
Don’t dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won’t last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry
and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift….
Thrown away.
Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

Southland), the Athlete’s Foot will donate $5 of sporting equipment back to the school. So far we’ve bought 51 pairs of shoes which equates to $255 the PFA can spend on sporting equipment/clothing.
Pauls Collect-a-Cap One Pauls milk cap equates to 10c, so keep collecting those caps and depositing them in the collection box at the office. This fundraiser continues throughout the year.
IMPORTANT NEWS......PLEASE READ! Multipurpose Hall Change Room Facilities We have now commenced the construction of the MPH change room facilities – at last! The construction area is out of bounds for all staff, students and parents while building is taking place. If all goes to plan the construction should be completed by the end of October. Approximately 50% of the cost of the project is being funded by a Federal Government grant.
Car Parking
Due to the construction work we have lost one of the staff car parking areas. It is now necessary to limit the car park through the round-a-bout to staff only. The only exception would be for those who display a disabled car parking permit who can use the designated car parking space. Parking areas are available at Rembrandts, but please do not park on curbs and the grassed areas. As well as parking in Tyner Road, there is also street parking available in Tyner Road East. Please note we do not have permission to park in the Foodstar car park.
In an effort to stop the ‘gridlock’ which occurs during the peak morning and afternoon times, we request that you turn left out of the car park which will help traffic flow. We are installing a ‘No Right Turn’ sign which will operate during peak times. If you are wanting to access Burwood Highway, you can turn left out of the school and then turn left into High Street Road which will take you to Burwood Highway. Alternatively you can turn left out of the school and then turn right into Tyner Road East, if you follow the road around it will take you to Burwood Highway. I would be happy to receive any suggestions on how we might improve the car parking or drop off process.
Uniform Supplier
We will be changing our uniform supplier from the beginning of 2013 to Lowes. There is a Lowes store at Knox Ozone less than 500m from the College which will allow families to purchase uniforms during business trading times. With the store being so close we will not be selling new uniforms on campus from 2013. The Victoria Schoolwear campus shop will cease selling uniform items at the end of Term 4, but items will still be available for purchase at their store at Shop 8, 205 Middleborough Road, Box Hill South until 30 June 2013.
School Notices To Be Emailed This term the school office will be doing all notices (except those requiring a return slip) by email. Families who have not returned their email/sms correspondence forms are to make sure that the school office have their correct/current details. Darren Waterworth - Business Manager

SEUSSICAL - JUNIOR CLASSES
SEUSSICAL – JUNIOR CLASSES
Arrangements for the Musical for Grade Prep, One and Two
27/7/12
Dear Parents
Our college musical “Seussical the Musical” will be held on Friday 24th August and Saturday 25th
August, at Rembrandts. This is a very exciting event for our school, and the students have been working
very hard on their songs. Having two performances gives them a better experience of relating to an
audience and allows them to see the results of their efforts in practice.
We recognise that having two late nights in a row could be difficult for our younger students, and in light
of this we are giving the Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 children the option to leave at interval on ONE of the
performance nights.
The arrangements are as follows:
Please note that leaving early is OPTIONAL. Students are permitted to stay and perform for the full show
on both nights if they wish. We expect all junior students to perform Act 1 for both scheduled
performances.
Further details will be given in the coming weeks. Please keep these arrangements in mind when booking
tickets to the musical.
Kind Regards,
Karen Elbourne Yvonne Hughes

Art News - Mrs Darlison Returns!
What a privilege it was to be able to see so many places in the world. One of the best things about the trip I had was to see many works of art that I have studied and used in my teaching. I will be using this first hand knowledge for many years to come.
I thought that I would share some of my experiences with you throughout the year. To start this off I have created a display on the noticeboard outside the Art room ( on display Mon- Wed). To begin with I have used the photos I took of Monet's garden along side some of his paintings.
Claude Monet was a French painter who was part of the Impressionist school of art. He lived in Giverny, Normandy, France, in the late 19th century through to 1926. He was a keen gardener and this garden with its waterlily pond is open to the public today. Many of his paintings are on display in 2 galleries in Paris, Musee d'Orsay and L'Orangerie. I visited both of these galleries and was able to see his magnificent paintings. Sally Darlison - Primary Art Teacher

The Barton CarnivaL The Barton fundraiser event for this year, was held on the on the 27th of July,
on the last day of Term 2. The aim of the event was to raise funds to help buy new water tanks for the school children at the Tata School in Vanuatu.
The Carnival, which was a movie/book-themed dress-up day, was well received by the school community. Teachers and students rose to the occasion and the school grounds came alive with a smorgasbord of truly amazing, colourful and interesting characters - Peter Pan, Princess Leia, Mary Poppins, Pirates of the Caribbean, Alice in Wonderland, The Hulk, adorable fairies and many, many more.
At lunch time, the multipurpose hall was abuzz with an array of activities - the jumping castle, face painting, balloon sculpting and novelty games. Students participated enthusiastically in the various activities as they enjoyed their delicious pre-ordered muffins and flavoured milk drinks.
The Barton community would like to thank all parents, teachers and students for their support of and participation in this event. Our special thanks to the PFA for the sale of muffins and drinks, Mr & Mrs Stehr for the Jumping Castle, Mrs. Seonaid Chio for the face painting stall and Mrs Annie Yew for the balloon sculpting stall.
All of your generous donations enabled us to raise a grand total of $1300. This is a great effort and our heartfelt thanks goes to everyone who helped make the Barton Carnival so special and meaningful.

SPOTLIGHT ON ASIA
SPOTLIGHT ON ASIA
There is an increasing need in today’s world for our students to be Asia literate. According to the NATIONAL STATEMENT ON ASIA LITERACY IN AUSTRALIAN SCHOOLS 2011–2012: “ Global integration and international mobility have increased rapidly in the past decade. As a consequence, new and exciting opportunities for Australians are emerging… India, China and other Asian nations are growing and their influence on the world is increasing. Australians need to become ‘Asia literate’, engaging and building strong relationships with Asia.” Asia Literacy in St Andrews embraces a whole–school approach to equipping our students, with broad knowledge, skills and understandings in the following areas:
ASIA AND ITS DIVERSITY
ACHIEVEMENTS AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF THE PEOPLES OF ASIA
ASIA-AUSTRALIA ENGAGEMENT It is hoped that the various school programs and activities on Asia Literacy, will enable our students to:
understand and appreciate the diversity of Asia’s peoples, environments, cultures, belief systems and societies
appreciate the contributions cultures of Asia make to world heritage, traditions and human endeavour, in the fields of art, science, technology, philosophy.
value the plurality, interdependence and commonality of humanity This is our inaugural article on Spotlight on Asia which will from now on be a regular feature in the Newsletter, and with each issue, we hope to provide a little snapshot of the rich kaleidoscope of Asian heritage and culture. Subsequent articles will also feature an “Asia Challenge” quiz section, and first all-correct e-mail entries will win community points.
