NB-879 SD/- Controller of Examinations J&K BOPEE S-002 Lone brother of 2 sisters, Sarshad couldn’t lead his first Taraweeh prayers IRFAN AMIN MALIK Tral, May 29: On Saturday, 19-year-old Sarshad Ahmed Dar alias Aquib Molvi was getting ready to lead his first Taraweeh prayers at Jamia Masjid Noor- pora here. But fate had some- thing else in store for him. In afternoon, he heard about the killing of two mili- tants at Saimoh village of Tral. He rushed to the vil- lage on his bike along with his two friends to partici- pate in the funeral prayers of the slain militants. Barely an hour later, his family received Sarshad’s body. “He took a bath, wore green clothes, sprayed perfume on his clothes and left home on his two-wheeler. One hour later his friends were carrying his body towards his house,” said Riyaz Ahmed, his uncle. Sarshad, a Hafiz-e-Quran was studying at Darul Uloom Panzgam. He was supposed to spend Ramadan vacations at home. “But little did we know that he will pass away before Ramadan,’ he said. Riyaz said that Sarshad usually remained at Darul Uloom. “He was all set to lead Taraweeh prayers at Jamia Masjid Noorpora. Every year he would complete the recita- tion of Quran in Taraweeh,” he said. “Sarshad was hit by a bullet on his forehead when forces opened fire on the protesters at the encounter site,” his friend said. He was taken to sub dis- trict hospital Tral where he breathed his last. However, DGP S.P. Vaid, said Sarshad was killed in “crossfiring.” One of Sarshad’s friends who accompanied him to Saimoh said that they reached the encounter site at about 1 pm. “We were eagerly wait- ing to get body of Sabzar when suddenly we found Sarshad lying on the ground. He had no marks on his body except the bullet mark on his forehead.” he said. Sarshad’s two sisters were lying on the verandah of their house at Khankah in Midoora Tral here. “Return Sarshad, Teach us Quran,” they shouted. His father Abdul Rashid Dar sobs and cries “Sarshad was my lone son…he was my eye-sight, my world. Forces snatched my everything,” he said and broke down. According to family, Sar- shad had memorized the whole Quran. He had complet- ed Hafiz-e-Quran from Darul Uloom Poonch .Currently he was studying Islamic litera- ture at Darul Uloom Panzgam and was planning to take admission in Darul Uloom Deoband for Molvi Fazil degree. “He was least interested in materialistic education so that he became an Imam and Hafiz- e-Quran,” he said. Locals remember him as a humble, well-mannered boy “who was passionate about Kashmir independence.” “He was loved by everyone in the village. We call him Molvi or sometimes Imam Soab. We have lost a pearl in him,” said Muhammad Hus- sain, a local. Sarshad’s dream to marry off his sisters in well-off fami- lies has been shattered. His mother, Haneefa is wailing. “I never knew that he will leave me so soon. I had purchased his favorite foods for Rama- dan but little did I know that he will be killed.” says Haneefa in a choked voice. ‘HE WAS HIT BY BULLET DURING PROTESTS AT ENCOUNTER SPOT’ Students of GBHS Mattan recount horror KU extends form submission date till June 3 ‘Forces thrashed us without any provocation' KHALID GUL Mattan (Anantnag), May 29: The students of Government Boys Higher Secondary (GBHS) school Mattan are up in arms against the paramilitary CRPF troopers for allegedly using “indiscriminate force” resulting into injuries to several of their colleagues. The students said they were peacefully protesting inside the school premises against the kill- ing of Hizb militant Sabzar Bhat in an encounter in Tral on Satur- day. “However, the CRPF troop- ers without any provocation went berserk and thrashed us. They also lobbed teargas shells and fired pel- lets on us as we ran for cover,” the students alleged. One of the injured, Sameer Ahmad, a 12th standard student continues to battle for his life in SMHS hospital here. “CRPF men from nearby camp forced their way into the school and roughed us up and fired live ammunition on us. Even the female students were not spared and many of them got injured and others fell unconscious. The forces even pelted stones on the students and teachers,” they said. “One of the female teachers received injury after being was hit by a stone thrown by CRPF men,” they added.
