Children are one of God’s greatest gifts to the world. At Healing Hands we make impacting children, both abroad and at home, a priority in our ministry through our M.A.G.I. program. M.A.G.I. stands for Making A Godly Impact, and that’s what we aim to do for children all over the world. They are the leaders of tomorrow who will shape the future of spreading the Good News of the gospel internationally.

Healing Hands hopes that in the same way M.A.G.I. boxes bless the children who receive them, they will also impact those who pack them. This year, for the tenth year in a row Regina Lankford, along with her fellow second grade teachers at Lipscomb Academy Elementary school in Nashville, TN brought their classes to Healing Hands International to deliver completed M.A.G.I. boxes. Mrs. Lankford says, “We hope that filling these boxes plants the seed for servanthood in our students’ hearts. The children pray over the boxes, write letters to the

receivers, and dream about these boxes opening hearts to Jesus.” We have received countless thanks over the years from developing countries for M.A.G.I. boxes we have delivered. This note is just one example of many. Marco, a preacher in Honduras writes, “I thank you. My heart rejoices in what you do with the boxes every year for our children. Receive all of our thanks for your effort and your interest in our children knowing the love of Christ. May God bless the ministry of Healing Hands.”

The M.A.G.I. project is so much more than a box. It is an opportunity to make a Godly impact on children, both abroad and at home. We are excited to announce that M.A.G.I. is now a year round project, meaning we will accept your filled boxes at any point during the year! Through churches, organizations, and individuals like you, we were able to provide over 26,000 M.A.G.I. boxes to children in 6 different nations in 2014. We are excited to be partnering with you this year to reach a new goal of filling 50,000 M.A.G.I. boxes! For more information about the M.A.G.I. project or to request your boxes, please contact Sean Judge at 615-832-2000.

In February, Healing Hands International completed three survival gardening work- shops in Guyana, South America. God truly orchestrated these workshops by bringing together many knowledgeable people to partner with HHI in planning and preparation. The team, led by HHI Director of Agriculture Carl Burkybile, consisted of three American congrega-tions in the West Virginia and Ohio area, several Guyanese churches in the Georgetown, Linden, and Kwakwani areas of Guyana, local Guyana government officials, Guyana Agriculture Extension Officer Howard London, Kwakwani high school agriculture instructor Leon Conway, local gardener March Lea, and long time Guyana missionaries to the country, David Newberry and Terry Smith.

During the three workshops, HHI instructed 45 church and community members along with 115 students in five different Kwakwani Secondary School classes.

Participants were taught

to use vegetation and animal manure to fill

a compost trench in the middle of a raised plant-ing bed. Celine Richards, a high school student who partici-pated in the workshop, concluded,

“The workshop was fun and survival gardening is something even I can do!”

Participants were told if they completed a raised planting bed at their house, the instructors would provide the resources needed to maintain the garden, supply appropriate tools and drip kits, as well as make follow up garden visits.

Michael and Vivien Lindie, a Guyanese preacher and his wife remarked after attending the workshop, “The workshop is perfect for encouraging more people to

plant a garden because it helps them save money and eat a more balanced diet.” The Lindie’s have already completed their raised planting bed and have promised to share their new knowledge with others along their preaching circuit down the Beebice River. HHI truly believes that when a person’s basic needs, such as food are met, they are more receptive to accepting the gospel of Christ. Following the workshops, a meeting with representatives of a 200 member farmer cooperative began a dialogue of ways that HHI could assist the community in the agricultural development of many areas of savanna land that are not currently being used. We look forward to everything the Lord has planned for this community! To learn more about our Agriculture program, please contact Carl Burkybile at 615-832-2000.

Teacher’s Heart Hungers For God’s Word in Haiti

Learning. Teaching. Children. Teachers. All words that make up the education program at Healing Hands International. For three years, the focus of our work in Haiti has been on the schools and how we could better serve students and teachers. But, earlier this year, education took on a new role that has brought a different dimension to our work. In January I made a trip to Haiti with a group from Cookeville, TN, my second such trip. Led by Brandon Pruett, the group’s purpose was to support and strengthen the church in Santo. Seminars would be held each afternoon that would educate and train men to take on true Biblical leadership. “But, what about the women,” I asked. And, it was at that point that I took on the job of teaching women.

Each afternoon, between 35 and 50 women arrived at the church to sit outside on benches in the waning sunlight. Lessons were taught on how women could be the light of the world, a city on a hill that cannot be hidden; lessons on where your treasures are laid up, there will be your heart also; and the all-prevailing problem of worry. Each afternoon, a young woman arrived early and sat on the second row

right in front of me. From the very first day, her smile was inviting and the light in her eyes was welcoming. Her name was Carline, a kinder-garten teacher. We chatted each afternoon after class and she shared with me her feelings of inadequacy about living a Christian life, her obsessive need to worry, and her desire to be a better person. She touched my heart.

On the last afternoon of the class, Carline and I were talking and it occurred to me to ask her, “Would you like to learn more about the Bible and study with someone?” Eagerly shaking her head, she said, “Yes, yes!” I ran into the church where Sister Beaubrin, a strong Christian woman, was visiting with other women. I quickly told her about Carline, and together we hurried back outside. I introduced the two women, who immediately hugged and squealed with delight. They made plans to meet with other women and begin a study of the Bible.

I left that afternoon filled with such joy I had never experienced before. To watch someone hunger for God’s word was not only thrilling for

me, but the wonder of it all solidified my belief that God puts us where he

needs us to be. I left Haiti two days later with the hope that Carline would indeed learn about Jesus and his redeeming love.

A week before my scheduled trip back to Haiti in March, Roberta Edwards called with the news that Carline had been baptized. Once again my heart swelled with the awesome power of God’s love. A new sister in Christ. A saved soul. A redeemed woman. Learning. Teaching. Bringing lost souls to Christ. This is what the education program at Healing Hands International is all about! First Reverse Osmosis Water System in India is Complete

A year ago, the village of Kandrika Ramidicherala was in desperate need of water. The village has a population of 5000, and it is located in the state of Andhra Pradesh which is in southern India.

“Many of the residents of this village suffer from throbbing lower back pain, locking of joints, bulging eyes, enlarged heads, bone deformations, and bent legs and hands. There have been 400 deaths in the last few years. They have never received any kind of medical attention, even the most basic of medical care,” says Dr. Mani Pagidipalli, M.D. a native of the country who came to the States for medical school. Since his return to India, he has preached and conducted medical campaigns in every district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The cause for many of the medical issues plauging this village comes from fluoride and uranium poisoning in the water. Fluorosis has been a serious issue in Andhra Pradesh from as early as 1999. Evidence from water surveys indicate that 70-100% of the Indian state is affected.“These people are desperately in need of any help they can receive, but especially safe drinking water,” says Dr. Pagidipalli.

The Broadway Church of Christ in Paducah decided to partner with Mani in bringing his village clean water. The church hosted an HHI Walk4Water event in their community and raised enough money to complete a well in the community of Kandrika Ramidicherala. Work on the wells immediately, but upon completion of the new well, fluoride and uranium were still discovered in the well water.

Together with HHI, the Broadway church family raised enough money to add on a reverse osmosis system to the well, the first of its kind installed by HHI in India.

The reverse osmosis is a water purification technology that uses a semipermeable membrane to remove a wide variety of harmful molecules and ions from drinking water. An applied pressure is used to overcome osmotic pressure (the minimum pressure which needs to be applied to a solution to prevent the inward flow of water across a semiper-meable membrane) that is driven by a chemical potential. The solute is retained on the pressurized side of the membrane and the pure solvent is allowed to pass on the other side.

After the reverse osmosis system had been completed, Mani said, “I am overwhelmed by the love and providence of our God on many levels and at various avenues. This has been an extremely long process, but it has been a blessing to experience the goodness of our God.”

We are thankful for your support of clean water for this community and pray that God will continue to mold hearts in this village!

Vanuatu, a nation of small islands in the South Pacific Ocean, suffered through category 5+ cyclone last month. Cyclone Pam was said to be “the most devastating Pacific Cyclone in decades” by the BBC, with winds peaking at 300 mph. Homes were destroyed, gardens

ruined, and many were left without clean drinking water, food, or shelter. Through our missionary partners who are living on the is-

lands, Eric and Shawnda Brandell and Tobey and Kathy Huff, HHI sent and distributed 130 water filters, necessary supplies for these home systems, as well as helped send two 20 ft containers full of relief supplies to the victims of Vanuatu.

Through your generosity this response was possible. Thank you for your concern toward this effort. Please keep the people of Vanuatu in your prayers as they start the long rebuilding process.

In February, HHI representatives Linda Smith and Lydia Steger had the opportunity to visit our Women Worth A Million groups in India. They were able to visit 13 businesses that were started last year after the Christian Women’s Business Conference. Upon receiving a microloan, 7 were started immediately after the

conference, while 6 more were started one year later. Women who started immediately after the conference have paid back their microloans in full! The other half of the businesses are currently paying back their loans. The businesses are thriving! They have taken what they learned at the conference and truly put it into practice. A few of these businesses include a tailoring shop, a breakfast restaurant, a pickling and spice center, a grocery store, and a custom baby clothes service. We are extremely proud of the hard work and creative effort these women have put into the their businesses! To learn more about the Women Worth A Million program, please contact Lydia Steger at 615-832-2000 or [email protected].
