How can we help one another in our family fulfill God’s design? Knowing that the challenges humanity faces today, have their roots in a fractured, dysfunctional family, how can we as parents, help heal the wounds in our families? How can we as families be a gift to the Church and to humanity? For our young people, is getting married in Church still relevant today? These are some of the topics shared and reflected on during the Parish Family Day, May 24, 2014, at Caritas Don Bosco gymnasium.

The family is going through unprecedented rough times. The theme, “Living the Word of God in the Family with Mary as our Model”, served as the light and anchor for the families. Living the Word of God, gives the couples, courage and fortitude, to continue loving at all cost. This way, the presence of God lives in them

and in their families. Difficulties and trials, are overcome with peace and trust in God’s love. The experiences shared by the couples with their children gave witness to this reality.

Looking at Mary, our model in living the Word of God, sanctity is possible. She is the Seat of Wisdom, a Mother at home. She has shown us the way.

The Parish Pastoral Council, the BEC, and the different covenanted family movements, worked together to ensure the success of the Family Day. The unwavering support of the parish priest, Fr. Bobby Mac Roxas, SDB, assured the Family and Life Ministry, that it is all worth the effort.

The procession of the images of Mary Help of Christians, and the celebration of the Holy Mass, by Bishop Teodoro Bacani capped the day.

The Filipino tradition of offering flowers to the Blessed Mother for the whole month of May is very much alive in the Parish and its various chapels—and what is more is that the young people have taken up the lead in running these activities.

From May 1 to 31, children religiously went to the chapels and the Parish to play, pray the rosary, and offer flowers to Mother Mary. They were also taught catechism lessons by the young people.

They would be given school supplies—courtesy of generous parishioners who offered these in the daily Masses last month— as a reward for their perseverance.
