Pinterest: Pinterest is a type of social media platform. Pinterest is all about pinning pictures. They have a variety of different images on Pinterest. People can share their own photos on there but you can also pin other people’s images. On your own profile, you can create a board with its own title and you pin different images to the board of anything you want. You can have a board that has images of the same category together to organise your profile. People can even follow your board if they are interested in it and want to see other pictures being pinned to this board on their homepage. Topshop have their own profile on Pinterest. They have 120k followers. They have a total of 10.3k pictures that they have shared on their profile. Some of the boards they have on their profile are called ‘Milan: Street Style’, ‘Topshop: Unique’, ‘New York: In Detail’, ‘60s style’, ‘Fringing’ and ‘My endless summer’. ‘London Fashion week AW15’. They have used their Pinterest account to show people the events they have been a part of. This is good for consumers to see, what different companies are involved in. Even when there are special occasions, they show their various range of items including their boards ‘Fright night’ for Halloween. ‘Topshop 4 th July’ for American Independence Day. They also have ‘Topshop prom queen’ and ‘Valentine’s dilemmas’. On their description for ‘Valentine’s dilemmas’ they have used informal writing and chose something that people might find relatable, Tinder. If valentines is soon approaching and someone is thinking about looking for an outfit for Valentine’s Day and they happen to use Pinterest on a daily basis.

By Topshop showing what they have on Pinterest, will catch people’s eye, they will be aware they have nice outfits for Valentine’s Day. If this person follows Topshop on Pinterest and

see an outfit they like, they are most likely to buy there outfit straight away from Topshop. If they hadn’t shown what they have on Pinterest then when they went to buy an outfit they might have gone onto a different clothing website e.g. Boohoo and shopped there but because they saw Topshop first on Pinterest they managed to get their service so showing your items on Pinterest are a good way for people to see what they have for sell and a picture so you can see exactly how it looks. Some of the pictures on Topshop’s Pinterest you can just click on the image and it will take them straight to the link where they can purchase it, so they don’t have to search for it.

There are many boards on Pinterest relating to Topshop that other people have made themselves for their own board. Many of these boards relate especially to Topshop’s clothing range. Some of the boards that people have made are called ‘Topshop London’, ‘Topshop Paris’ ‘Topshop print’, ‘Topshop denim’ just ‘Topshop’ and there are many others. This screenshot below shows many of the board’s people have made called ‘Topshop’. For people to make a whole board dedicated to them shows they have a great interest in them.

These two screenshots below show the types of board’s people are making related to ‘Topshop’.

Topshop print have images of Topshop’s clothing that specifically has a print e.g. Aztec, leopard, floral print, Tartan and more. Some of the different images that are pinned on the ‘Topshop denim’ board have pictures of different jeans/denim trousers, denim skirts and denim shirts. ‘Topshop festivals’, this shows that people are interested in Topshop for certain events such as festivals. Many people pin pictures of Topshop clothes because they want to look for the clothing item at a later date by going onto the Topshop website so they can purchase it.

One of Topshop’s competitors on Pinterest is Boohoo. Boohoo also have their own profile on Pinterest. They have 22.5k followers and a total of 1k pictures that they have shared on their profile. Boohoo have quite a lot more followers on Pinterest than Topshop but Boohoo have shared much less pictures to their profile than Topshop. Although Topshop have more content than Boohoo they still have less people following them. This could mean that Boohoo’s followers

could prefer the quality of Boohoo’s photos and the actual content of what they post, prefer their clothes in general or like Boohoo’s pricing. Topshop is pricier than Boohoo so Boohoo could possibly be more convenient to some.

Some of the boards on Boohoo’s profile are not related to anything they sell e.g. boards about hair, nails, celebrities, pictures of beaches and travelling. They do have other boards related to fashion but again not all their fashion pictures are of what they sell. Topshop and Boohoo have a few similarities within their boards. They both have boards about festivals, prom, Halloween and about London Fashion Week.

They show their fitness/working out clothing. I think showing their workout clothing is very good because when people are using social media they might not be thinking about fitness but when they see these pictures being posted it will remind them or inspire them to work out and to get fit so this promotes a positive healthy lifestyle. One of the other boards are called ‘Zoella’s boohoo picks!’ and ‘Bloggers We Love”. Zoella is a very popular vlogger and blogger. By having a board about the types of clothing that Zoella likes, people might look up to her and want these items because Zoella likes them. On Zoella’s blog she posts pictures of products and clothing items she likes so she is good at giving recommendations. This is why blogs can be helpful for organisations to promote what their selling. Boohoo boutique’ is one of their boards and this boards shows much more of what they have for sell on their website.

Tumblr:

Topshop have their own Tumblr account. On their profile they show images of items they sell.

Tumblr is a social media platform. It is picture oriented so it is similar to Pinterest, but you can also have videos, GIFs, write quotes, type text, listen to audio and have conversation with other members. Fashion is very popular on Tumblr as this is where many people get inspiration and ideas of what clothes to buy for the season. On Tumblr, you have a profile and you can upload your own content or reblog things. Reblog is the same as ‘Pinning’ on Pinterest and you can like things.

Topshop use their Tumblr account very well because they give customers the chance to take pictures of themselves wearing their Topshop garments and to submit the photo, which you can do so easily though their Tumblr page. They will post the pictures they love the most to their profile for their followers to see. Consumers like to see regular people wearing/modelling the clothes as you get to see how it actually looks on and how it fits to give people an idea if they want to purchase it.

Many of the photos on Tumblr are of people on the street wearing their items which gives the profile a nice feel, instead of having loads of pictures of professional models standing behind a plain background showing the clothes. They can really engage customers this way.

The screenshots below are some of the images on their Tumblr profile. They even say how you can style it, by saying what you could pair it with to add to the outfit.

If you’re scrolling on Tumblr and you come across a picture of a girl wearing a really nice top then they might click on the image and they might have used the hashtag #Topshop so they know where they can buy the same top from. A good thing about Tumblr is that you can find pictures of customers who have bought an item actually wearing it. These pictures below are some of the pictures that come up when you type ‘Topshop’ in the search bar.

Kendall and Kylie come up when you type in Topshop. Kendall and Kylie are very well known. A lot of girls look up to them and may want to live similar lifestyles as them

and find what they do fascinating. They have come out with a new collection for Topshop which is sure to drive a lot of sales to their website. People are re-blogging the images of Kendall and Kylie which a lot of people will then see because it is being promoted on Tumblr.

There is a profile which a girl has made on Tumblr dedicated to outfits she has put together that have items from Topshop, which shows people are interested in Topshop’s clothing range and what to pair the items with. This is the profile below and two examples of Topshop outfits.

LinkedIn:

LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network. Companies and organisations can create a profile so they can get the latest news, inspiration and insights. There are two main sections to a LinkedIn account, the home page and the careers page. On the home page, TOPSHOP explain who they are, what they have to offer and some of the company’s history/background.

Some of what goes on a LinkedIn account, lets people see behind the scenes. Many things that happens to the company, they will display on their page which will be in the Recent Updates. Currently on Topshop’s page, they are looking to recruit a Regional Administrator in Doncaster and there are various store management opportunities in Birmingham, so it gives people the chance to see things like this, if they happen to be from these places. Another thing in their recent updates is that they have shown what has happened during Black Friday Weekend and another job offer.

The way they wrote this offer, would be attractive to consumers, by talking about how that store is among the top 10 and how great visual managers are.

Here, they are showing what current employees are doing at work.

On the careers section of TOPSHOP’s LinkedIn profile, you can even look for a job if you were interested in working there. They have a direct link that will bring you to the job roles available. On this section they start by saying what is it like to work here, which is encouraging for people to read.

Their profile really gives people an insight into what actually happens at TOPSHOP and how it may be if you work there. They have a video underneath which is usually a good way of catching someone’s attention so they can find out more.

They also show current employees and many job opportunities they currently have that can be applied for.

They put their other links to Facebook.

Another thing they’ve added to their profile is “what our employees say”. I think this is effective and a good thing to add because people want to know what current employers think about working there. If there is a lot of encouraging words to join TOPSHOP but the employers don’t say very good things about working there or if they haven’t included it then it shows people may not enjoy working there, so it wouldn’t make other people want to work there.

ASOS

ASOS are an online retailer that sell many fashion items. They are also very popular, but they are just based online. ASOS are a competitor of TOPSHOP on LinkedIn. ASOS has 155,789 followers, this is more than TOPSHOP, and they have 104,629. On ASOS’s home page they also describe themselves in a way that TOPSHOP has so people can learn a bit about them but they also say what their ambitions are and what ASOS are working towards, which is to be the no.1 online fashion destination.

In ASOS’s recent updates they show a picture of a woman standing at a stall. This is the stall they have to give them employees an afternoon treat but they usually give fruit in the morning to keep everyone healthy, which is looking out for their employees well-being. A lot of people would be

impressed with this as it is a really beneficial idea which the comments express. A lot of people would find clothing more favourable if they knew that there was no cruelty involved in making the items, so by ASOS letting consumers be aware of this, it could get them even more customers.

On their careers page they also have the list of their employees and what their job role is and they have what employees are saying about working at ASOS. They then add their recent updates again on this page, to remind people or if they didn’t go on their home page and went straight to careers they would still see, so this is a good idea. There is a video at the end of the page, which people can then watch after they’ve read the information to finish off. They haven’t put loads of info on this page and I think that would be because they don’t want to bore people. On the side of the careers page they have a list of job roles up for offer.
