New Fire Standards
Control and Communication Units For Fire Alarm Control Units
•Mass notification products shall be constructed to comply with the construction requirements as defined in Section 5-25 of the ninth edition of the Standard for Fire Alarm Control Units and Accessories, UL 864.
•Equipment such as pre-amplifiers, amplifiers and products translating or converting live voice signals for use in these systems shall comply with the applicable requirements in the Standard for Amplifiers for Fire-Protective Signaling Systems, UL 1711.
•Audible mass notification circuits intended for evacuation shall have the capability of producing the American National Standards Institute’s (ANSI) S3.41 audible emergency evacuation signal pattern.
•A mass notification alarm notification circuit shall provide synchronization of visible alarm notification appliances complying with the parameters specified in the Standard for Signaling Devices for the Hearing Impaired, UL 1971.
• Automated alerting engine
• Integrates stand-alone alarm and communication systems – Detailed alerts go to the right individuals, groups
or entire populations via designated devices
• Includes a wireless sensor network, integration tools and mass notification capabilities on one powerful platform
• Enhanced location data through vector mapping (SARA’s Positioning System)

SARA (Situational Awareness and Response Assistant)
Fire Alerting Package Components
• SARA 100– Situational awareness solution with the same robust capabilities as SARA
enterprise but specifically for for small- and medium-sized businesses• SARA’s eMessenger
– Advanced alerting capability for mass notification through the delivery of critical information to desktops and smartphones through pop-up alerts and mobile dashboards
• Serial-to-IP Converter– Interface Software-selectable RS232, RS422 or RS485 (2- and 4- wire
support)– Connector 1 DB25F DCE serial port– Data Rates Software-selectable rate from 300 to 230 KBaud
• Fire Panel Integration– Use existing fire detection and communication systems for advanced
monitoring, alerting and reporting; interoperability with a variety of disparate systems
Unlimited Flexibility
• RF-enabled– Leverages RF-based wireless networks to support
mobile and fixed sensors• IP-enabled
– Built with Web tools and uses IP networks to monitor Wi-Fi sensors, sending alerts to any registered IP end point on the network
• Telephony-enabled– Can receive and send telephony signals– Unique Voice of SARA text-to-speech engine – Automated dialer functionality
Functional Areas
• Monitoring– Via integration to alarm systems and a wide array of
sensors (security, fire/smoke, motion, temperature, mobile duress, Wi-Fi)
• Alerting– To any communication device (phones, pagers, PCs,
handheld radios, LED displays, etc.)– Flexible escalation through modes and actions
• Reporting– All events are captured in SARA’s powerful reporting
engine (event time, notified parties, confirmation of alert, etc.)
Telling the Story … Qualify
Fire Alarm• Through an integration to a
legacy fire panel or a fully supervised UL-listed wireless smoke and carbon monoxide detection device, a fire has been detected and the event has been leveraged by SARA.
SARA’s eMessenger Desktop Alert• Responder receives a pop-up
with event information and a live video feed directly to the desktop through SARA’s eMessenger Video Paging and the ‘Eyes of SARA.’
Qualification and Response• Responder uses video
information to determine that the hallway is clear and fire is localized before responding appropriately.
Telling the Story … Notify
Fire Alarm • Through an integration to a legacy fire
panel or a fully supervised UL-listed wireless smoke and carbon monoxide detection device, a fire has been detected and the event has been leveraged by SARA.
SARA’s eMessenger Desktop• Staff members receive a color-coded,
audio-enabled pop-up with fire emergency information and/or maps that are persistent until acknowledged.

More Than Fire Alerting
• Other Life Safety Systems– Fixed and mobile duress– Infant abduction, telemetry, patient monitoring, etc.
• Security– Access control– Motion, glass-break detection– Video surveillance
• Environmental Monitoring– Temperature (medical and food storage), moisture/humidity– HVAC systems, boilers, water pumps– Hazardous substances (medical or science labs)– Cigarette busters
• Webinar on Nov. 14• Mass Notification
– Life safety, security, environmental monitoring alerts– Also general announcements and courtesy reminders to improve communication
and access to information throughout an organization
