Who is actually behind silbærg snowboards?

Well, we are a group of people with a passion

for snowboarding and the vision to develop an

innovative and completely new snowboard, and

no, we are not Harvard academics, nor we they

disgruntled ex-employees of other snowboard

companies. We are all scientists, and students of

the Chemnitz University of Technology. And all of

us are obsessed with snowboarding!

Already in 2007, the basic idea was born, and

as part of a research project at the Institute for

Lightweight Structures, published by Jörg Kauf-

mann. It was followed by the development of the

first prototypes and a nerve-wracking 3 years of

research. 2010 finally put an initial success: At

the ISEA Conference in Vienna, our young team

won the „Young Investigator Award“ and the

„Best Session Award“ for the launch of this in-

novative snowboard. Finally the ALD-Technolo-

gy also convinced the ISPO jurors and silbærg

was rewarded with the „ISPO BrandNew Award

2011“ in the category Hardware Winter. And we

are actually quite proud of that! In early 2011 the

silbaerg GmbH was founded and since then it is

the only snowboard company from the Erzgebir-

ge/Germany!

PHILOSOPHY

Our goal is to exceed the expectations of our

customers; no matter if they are professionals

or beginners. With the latest discoveries in

aerospace in mind, we made supreme quality

and standout technology our number-one

priority because there is nothing we hate more

than a screwed up snow day.

This way, we want to expand the excitement for

snowboarding and use technical innovations to

create a new riding experience.

We know that the environment is the main

resource for our favourite sport and our

favourite spots. That is why we pay close

attention to an eco-friendly production by

finding green technologies for the creation of

our products.

The opinions and interests of our customers

are a key element for our future product

RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT

Silbærg evolved from the Institute of Light-

weight Structures of Chemnitz University of

Technology in a close relationship with co-

workers. This leads to a steady transfer of

knowledge and technology, both based on

research and applied to our snowboards.

It enables us to use the latest innovations of

material science, computer simulation and

biomechanics to enhance our snowboards.

Part of our University research was the con-

struction of a sensor-enhanced snowboard

that enables us to measure the exact strains

and loads working in a snowboard while riding.

Using these data, we were able to programme a

computer simulation that allowed us to master

the complex ALD-Technology.

In cooperation with the Chemnitz University

of Technology we designed various custom

testing facilities to secure our high standard of

quality. During the stage of development, all of

our boards are tested thoroughly. This ensures

that all of our products provide the desired

riding qualities and the necessary pop, flex and

torsion stiffness!

You‘re probably wondering what is the

new thing that is so special about silbærg

snowboards? The answer has three letters

and it is ALD.

ALD (anisotropic layer design) is a unique way

to manufacture the fiber fabrics, which are

located above and below the wood core. The

quality of the ALD fiber fabrics is so important

to us, that we produce it by hand in Chemnitz/

Germany. This distinguishes us from all the

other snowboard manufacturers, which uses

machine-made bi-, tri- or quad-axial reinforced

materials.

And the results stand for itself: The edges of

a silbaerg snowboard form, depending on the

driving conditions. While doing a board slide,

the edge lifts up of the rail and while doing a

carving turn, the edge digs into the snow...

on the slope you will feel the difference in

performance and arrive totally stoked down in

the valley!

So that everyone can benefit of this technology,

we produce the ALD in three different levels:

The ALD-Pro fiber fabric is the

next level. It gives the edge of the

board a high ability to shape and

provides a stable edge grip. Even

on the most iciest of grounds it

let‘s the board carve and slide to

perfection.

On our high-end cutting-edge

technology, the edge effect is even

more amplified through the use of

carbon fibers. Here you actually

need a gun license! Through the

full carbon design, the weight of

the snowboard is also reduced.

The most advanced materials will

catapult you down each slope and

show you the limits of physics.

wich construction. Incredibly

Our sintered base material

in combination with the

StrucTurn-base grind is just

the fast you can buy with

All our models are equipped with the patented Structurn Base. With the help of small notches, the base

achieves to have a perfect lubricating stripe underneath your board. This will speed you up even if you

haven‘t waxed your board in ages. The long-lasting type of stone grind is one of the best and its great sliding

qualities are scientifically proven.

Freestyle riders beware: The Jibbomat is the

absolute fun device, and only for you! It won‘t

be able to tell you a joke (we are still working

on that) but you‘ll have a good time with it. It’s

a bit softer than the previous model but will still

give you as much pop as a trampoline. So if

you‘re into anything apart from just hammering

it down the slope, the Jibbomat will become

your best friend.

But it would not be a silbærg if it were not

equipped for versatile use. You don‘t need to

worry about icy slopes on the way to the park,

the ALD-Technology will provide you with edge

grip anytime you need it; so enjoy!

Thanks to its award winning ALD-technology

the Jibbomat Pro also sets in the 2012/13

season the benchmark when it comes to

versatile freestyle-riding. This board is for those

who want everything on the mountain! And

when we say everything we mean everything. It

is in fact the James Bond of snowboards.

You might not be in the service of Her Majesty

the Queen, but the reverence of the others

won‘t diminish. We promise! No one will dare

you to cope with you, except maybe the dude

with the Carvomat Pro Carbon... But later

in the park you might kick his a**! The new

With this fun machine you will show the boys

who‘s the boss. And if you enjoy Sk8boarding,

you will love this brand new model for

2012/13 even more! It is a bit softer than it‘s

predecessor but our unique ALD-Technology

still provides you with serious edge grip when

you need it, so that even the iciest slopes
