Finest German engineering work and many patents that have improved snowboarding – that‘s what Völkl Snowboards has represented for 15 years.

We don´t produce “bulk goods”, but high-tech boards for riders who are looking for great materials and top-notch riding characteristics.Together with our team, we are permanently working meticulously to make our boards faster and easier to turn and let them keep up with the strains of an international trick level that is progressing each season.

For four years we have been continuously working on becoming more eco-friendly, step by step: In 2010 we were awarded with the Eurosima Eco Award, and in 2011 we were granted the sought-after Ecoride Certificate, so we suppose we are on the right way. Until today we could improve the performance of five boards in our line thanks to eco-friendly materials. The t-shirts and hoodies with our Legacy Label are all made of biological cotton, without genetic engineering and toxic chemicals – here, we also follow and live by the slogan “fair & eco-friendly!” If shops and consumers demand more eco-friendly products, we will push even more in this direction.

Furthermore, we have developed a sensational split board for powder rats and backcountry fans, which is well thought-out in every detail and unique in its performance. The feedback and pre-orders after the first tests in 2011 exceeded all our expectations.

Our Horror-Shock Absorber is sustainable, too: If a board doesn´t break, it has a longer life; and everything that lives longer and that your heart is attached to follows the thought of sustainability.

But shops and riders can also look forward riding 12 models with a specific wide version in different lengths as well as a huge selection of rocker and camber models. And our Fastec bindings fans will be stoked by a new collection packed with great innovations.

The Völkl Horror-Shock Absorber is made of a specific wood with high struc tural density: Two H-shaped inlays made of so-called armor wood are directly grouted with the wooden core in the bindings inserts area into the direction of nose and tail. They absorb all shocks and impacts without moaning respec tively and without causing micro cracks in the wooden core. Tests in our Race Lab have proven that these inlays im prove the tor-sional characteristics, de liver a stronger pop and make the boards extremely strong and durable – even the weight of a compact car wouldn’t be a problem! Not to mention huge jumps and hard landings ...

We at Völkl know how important it is to choose the right bindings, and that’s why we try to progress and improve our models each year. Why are constantly trying to adjust them even more to the individual rider. For 2012/13 we developed a whole new bindings range! The Prime Alu features a new flexible and super light Asymmetrical Pro-Highback, and the Choice Alu now rides even more lively thanks to the Asymmetric Highback’s harder flex – due to the tool-free forward lean adjustment with the rotating wheel in the lever, both can be adjusted to the favored riding style within the blink of an eye! Coming along are the two brand-new models Invert and Vision that can deal with any terrain, thanks to their flexible plastic baseplate. Therefore, every rider will find the right bindings, no matter if looking for a stiffer model with direct power transmission, or a smoother model that perfectly adapts to the board’s flex.

When in the mountains you should focus on the important things, that’s what our popular Fastec Binding System is there for: It makes strapping in and out a walk in the park! The bindings get adjusted only once to the boots and the riding style, from then on the system is offering you perfect hold. The handling is super easy and with one hand only – without sitting down and tightening your bindings each time: Just step in, lift up the highback and close the Auto-Release-Buckle. During long lift rides you can use the comfort modus: Push the Auto-Release-Buckle and the front strap loosens, meaning your feet stay happy. After the run, you just fold down the highback, the ankle strap opens automatically and you can comfortably exit your bindings. Maximum freestyle performance and top-notch comfort – that’s what the (bindings) future looks like!

Of course, we are stoked about our eco awards because they prove that we are on the right track. However, we also know that there is still a lot to do if we want to conserve our na-ture for future generations. In doing so, each of us – no matter if business or individual, shop or snowboarder – can make a contribution by joining us on our path.

PS: Our environmentally-acceptable products often perform better than conventional boards.

By now, five boards can proudly present their eco friendly sealing: The Cashew, Cashew Split, Yavana, Vice SQD and, as the latest addition, the Soul Surfer mainly consist of alterna-tive materials and resources! These boards don’t have a plastic topsheet and their ABS sidewalls have been replaced by flexible wood (Yavana, Cashew, Cashew Split, Soul Surfer). This saves 400 grams of plastic – when considering an average board weight of 3 kilograms, that’s a lot! We also reduced the use of resin

and other toxic materials to the minimum. Although the black base might look inconspicuous, it’s pretty shrewd as it is made of recycled ma-terial, so are the edges for which we used 60 % recycled steel.

Who doesn’t know the feeling: To earn things before rewarding your-self? Those who hike up the mountain with a split board instead of simply taking the lift will be rewarded with a way more intense feeling during the run down – as well as untracked powder fields, the fusion with nature or a perfect kicker spot in the middle of nowhere. The ideal buddy for endless adventures off-piste is the Cashew Split with Powder / All Moun-tain Rocker shape. It combines the back country freestyle of the Convex Powder Base with the bigger oper-ating radius of a split board. Our goal was an eco-friendly, lightweight con-struction with easy handling. Goal achieved: The No-Topsheet Con struc -tion, wooden sidewalls and hard -wood veneer inlays replaced a huge amount of plastic, while the base and edges are made of recycled raw materials. Some high-tech was added in the form of a complete Carbon lower beam that reduces weight, but also improves torsional charac ter is-tics and the flex.

Fast, faster, Voilé Split Kit! Only a few grabs and you can divide the two board parts, or respectively put them together again using the specifically designed bindings fixa-tion. Thanks to the Micro Fleece on the skin bag you can even clean the base from snow or moisture before putting on the skins. Then you only have to mount the skins using the Skin Pin System, fold out the poles and switch on your LVS – go shred! Given a favorable avalanche report of course.

Who doesn´t pay attention to riding style, weight, size and shoe size can literally get stroke out in a second: Too small of feet on a wide board mean that not enough pressure can be put on the edges – the board gets dull in its reaction and hard to turn. When wearing big boots on a narrow board, toes and heel overlap and lead to edge catching slams on icy slopes or even a bruised heel after jumps!

With a show size of 9 (MP* 26) or smaller, we rec om mend a narrow board below 260 mm. Boot size 10 (MP* 28) is falling into the “gray zone” – depending on the length of the shoe sole, the stance and the range of riding, it might be already advisable to ride a wide board. Those who are wearing boots bigger than size 11 (MP* 28) should buy an extra wide shape as it will offer the best board per formance and direct power transmission.

This category features boards with a width from 250 mm to 259 mm. They are not too wide, but also not too narrow and the perfect choice for riders with a standard boot size (MP 25-28).

This board feels at home on big kicker lines and huge powder jumps, just like you! We completely revised the Horror-Shock Absorber: Its hardwood veneer inlays make the board extremely strong and can even withstand the weight of a compact car, respectively any big booter. The forgiving Freestyle Rocker with its short effective edge is extremely easy to turn, making any possible and impossible jibs a literal walk in the park. Kicker? No problem! Even though we completely revised the Soul Surfer, the PinTail Shape together with its AllMountain / Powder Rocker still makes you float on groomed slopes as if it was bottom less powder! We just pimped our cruiser and made it a bit “greener”: Thanks to a wooden veneer topsheet we could relinquish the common plastic topsheet and huge amounts of fiberglass. Combined with the new Völkl Premium lower beam hiding under the boards‘ mini malistic retro style, you get a flex that knows how to handle any situation. The Car bon Edition is not only lighter, but also more lively and offers smooth control when racing down the line. The set ting also feels soft – no matter if in powder or on hard packed snow. Powerful turns have never been so effortless and gentle! This is where the wooden sidewalls with the new TPU dampening can show their skills: absorbing shocks and bumps. Until now, only our world cup riders could enjoy this racy board. But since more and more speed junkies were sending requests and looking for the ultimate race on their home mountain, the Coal Race went to serial production. The knowhow is borrowed from the Coal XT, but our Race Lab made some adjustments for the race missions in the world cup: For example, the PinTail Shape is a bit more defined and set with an XL radius; furthermore, specific reinforcements provide for a stiffer flex. The Völkl Premium Carbon lower beam takes care of smooth control and high speed while the VRL Split Base and the Race Sidewall offer maximum acceleration. Thanks to the Nose Rocker, the banks and rollers of a boardercross course are a walk in the park as the contact length feels shorter. The forward lean adjustment has been inte grat ed into the lever of the Asymmetric High-back and can be modified within seconds. Are you looking for a jib session? Just reduce the forward lean for a more forgiving board han dling. SEtbackThe entire board’s shape, waist and binding insert positions have been shifted from the centre towards the rear of the board. Freestyle boards have minimal setback or none at all (e.g. Squad Line: 0 mm). When the binding position is centered, the nose and tail are of the same length and flex. Freeride boards feature a greater setback (e.g. Selecta 175: 50 mm). More setback enhances board control and powers edge grip at maximum speed. A longer nose also enables more flotation in powder.

StancEBy having different binding insert positions, the rider may fine-tune the board’s riding characteristics. Freestylers usually prefer a flatter stance angle of +15° to +21° on the front foot and -3° to -18° on the back foot. Freeriders tend to ride with a +15° to +30° angle on the front foot and a -6° to +10° angle on the back foot.

SiDecuTS Our boards feature different sidecuts depending on the terrain they are designed for. The special thing is that con - trary to a radial sidecut, a Völkl sidecut consists of several different blended sidecuts (therefore the indicated radial sidecut is just a reference value!) ROcKeR / ReVeRSe caMBeR ShaPe cOncePT “Rocker” is a well-established term among surfers, snow-boarders and wakeboarders. It describes a board shape that incorporates a negative/reverse camber. Boards with a “conventional” camber feature two contact points when the board is lying flat on the ground, one in the nose and the other one in the tail. Due to the Rocker Shape’s negative camber the board touches the ground at one point, which is in the middle of the board. The nose and tail are floating in the air. The length of this flat section between the bindings of freestyle and freeride boards varies according to the shape profile and intended use.As early as the 80s the ski and snowboard industry were experimenting with the first construction attempts of such a shape. Völkl Snowboards deliver an entire concept behind the current trend; a concept that is based on state-of-the-art laboratory tests and years of experience and know-how.In theory, a Rocker or “Reverse Camber” Shape provides better float in powder and is generally easy to turn and playful. However, if you just try to re-bend a conventional board shape, the board loses its dampening properties and edge hold. This is why all other parameters have to be re-adjusted, too. conSiStEnt round fLEXAll Völkl Rocker models feature a consistent round flex without “breaks” for the ultimate in edge hold. This provides balanced power transmission and precise control for high-speed runs.

adJuStMEnt of thE corEThe core of all Rocker boards has been worked on in combination with the 3-Section-Flex. The thickness of the wood core has been reduced a bit in between the bindings to give perfectly smooth flex characteristics. Below the bindings, towards the nose and the tail, the core has been thickened a bit compared to last year, which makes the flex a bit stiffer in those areas. The result? No “over-flexing”, but more pop and perfect response when landing on the tail.

3-SEction-fLEXThe flex has been adjusted in three different sections, making the board a bit stiffer along the nose, medium stiff in the middle and stiff along the tail. There is no need for the board to flex a lot in the nose section – the Rocker Shape is enough, it enhances the board’s gliding charac-ter istics in powder. This special construction prevents the board from “over-flexing”. It’ll excel anywhere, even in difficult snow conditions, providing precise control. The flex pattern and distribution of flex intensity is tuned individually for every board with Rocker Shape.

Low tip ShapEThe stronger the Rocker, the flatter the nose. In order to avoid the nose of the board catching into deep snow, our powder masterpieces don’t need a nose with a strong concave radius – the Rocker Shape is enough to prevent the board from digging in the snow. The Selecta and Cashew’s flat concave radius of the nose makes for considerably less snow resistance but a lot more speed in the powder. Freestyle weapons like the Squad, Jibster SQD and Impress SQD also benefit from the new Rocker Shape for powder landings.

These boards feature two contact points when the board is lying flat on the ground: one in the nose and the other one in the tail. Flex Multiple components determine a board’s flex: initial tension, adjustment and sidecut of the core, torsion (depending on materials used in the upper and lower beam), setback and stance. Building hard, stiff boards is not a real challenge for a snowboard manufacturer. Stiff boards do not automatically make for a smoother ride and better control! In reality, stiff boards are unforgiving and need to be ridden very aggressively. This becomes most evident on challenging terrain and in the park.
