I have just a few minutes before my first committee meeting. I am assigned to Dispatch of Business and hopefully can tell you more about what that means after this meeting. Basically we manage the flow of resolutions to the House of Deputies and House of Bishops. We meet every morning at 7am and every day at the end of that day’s legislative session. We also attend all meetings of the committee to which we are assigned. You can follow resolutions yourself. Go to this link, and click on the “Virtual Binder” on the right hand side. You can search for resolutions by number, committee it is assigned to, and proposer. At GC we deal with legislation in the form of resolutions. They can come from interim bodies – which are commissions and task forces who produce reports for the Blue Book (also accessed from the link above) as well as resolutions for all of GC to act upon. All resolutions are assigned to legislative committees, where they can be edited, combined with others, etc. The committee sends the result of their deliberations to the floor of the respective houses with a recommendation to adopt or dismiss or refer.” Read the whole post and pose any specific questions, concerns or comments you would like to share at itinerantpriest.org Rectors Bible Study is now on Summer Break and will return in the fall. Come to talk with us this Sunday! We are looking for some good people to help keep the traditions and beauty of our sweet church on going, without investing more than your interest.

Altar Guild and Flower Guild are looking for a few folks to come on board and help with either altar weekly prep work or flower weekly prep work.

Representatives will be in the atrium after services to answer any questions and help get you going on what will become a very worthwhile service to our church!

EPISCOPAL STRONG YOUTH MISSION Episcopal Diocese of the Central Gulf Coast

No. We’re not talking about an Episcopal Weight Lifting Contest. We are referring to our recent mission to the Diocese of Texas sponsored program to help those in need as a result of the Hurricane Harvey damage. After a year, many people in the Houston area are still without a home

due to the severe flooding and will face this situation for a considerable time to come. Our team was made up of two adults and five youth. We had hoped to have more; but didn’t get the particulars until late in the game. We found most youth by that time had already made other summer plans. But our group of seven strong went forth and did our very best.

On the drive over and back from Houston, we were hosted by Christ Church, Covington, LA and our old St. Simon’s friend Pierre (Pete) Saal in order to break up the long trip. We were introduced to some great New Orleans cuisine to include beignets. Thanks, Pete.

Our hosts in the Houston area were St. George Episcopal Church, Texas City, TX and the priest, Pastor Robyn and parishioners. They most graciously bedded down and fed 40 youth and 15 adults for a week. A shower van was loaned to us by the Church of Christ as well as parishioners who opened their homes for showers. Divided into six work teams, we set out on Monday (the 25th of June) with two teams to each of three locations. The week was spent under very hot temperatures sheet rocking, taping and floating, texturing, roofing, painting,

and even some plumbing and electric work. It was a great opportunity to learn a new skill. We had wonderful music and worship services every evening but also

had time to play. One afternoon, mid-week, was spent at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark on Galveston Island. We also spent a late afternoon after work lending support to the Santa Fe community who met weekly to mourn the loss of eight students and two teachers in a school shooting on 18 May. After work on Friday morning, we participated in the Blessings of the Backpacks, a food packing effort almost identical to our Feed the Need. Then it was on to a pizza dinner and a minor league ball game of the Houston Skeeters. We headed home on Saturday, the 30th.

While our diocese helped fund gasoline, U-Haul rental, dinner out one night for our team and other travel expenses, each team member raised their own $350 for the Episcopal Strong Fee. Episcopal Strong is

planned for as long as it is needed. The 2019 date is to be released by the end of this August and will be announced in the Diocesan Coastline and St. Simon’s Epistle. And most importantly, thank you all for your prayers and support.

Please join us on two Sunday mornings, July 22 & July 29, in the Parish Hall from 9-10:30 AM as we discuss Robert Lufton's Charity Detox and begin the journey of re-imagining our mission identity as disciples of Christ in our beloved community and in the world. We are out of copies in the Church Office, but you may purchase the book on Amazon or from another book seller. If you have questions, please contact Deacon Clelia

Charity Detox Workshop

Monday Book Group The Monday Book Group will meet at noon in the Parish Hall on July 30, 2018. We will be discussing Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann. This is the story of the wealthy Osage Nation in Oklahoma in the 1920s and the mysterious murders that claimed many of their members. The case was eventually taken up by the newly created FBI and its young director J.Edgar Hoover. Named a New York Times Notable Book and Best Book of the Year by several other publications, this one promises to be a good read. Bring a lunch or snack and join us for discussion and learning. Please call JoAnne Connell (850) 240-3051 with questions or suggestions.

Musical Simonites Parishioners John Zirpola, David Jones, and Ansley Walker are participating in NWF College’s production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame!
