O Lord my Savior and my Master, I, Thine unprofitable servant, with fear and trembling give thanks unto Thy loving goodness for all Thy benefits which Thou hast
poured so abundantly upon me, Thy servant. I fall down in adoration before Thee and offer Thee, O God, my praises; with fervor I cry to Thee: O God, deliver me
henceforth from all adversities and mercifully fulfill in me such of my desires as may be expedient for me. Hear me,
I entreat Thee, and have mercy, for Thou art the Hope of all the ends of the earth, and unto Thee, with the Fa-ther, and the Holy Spirit, be ascribed glory, now and ever,
and unto ages of ages. Amen. I praise Thee, O God of our Fathers, I hymn Thee, I
bless Thee, I give thanks unto thee for Thy great and ten-der mercy. To Thee I flee, O merciful and mighty God.
Shine into my heart with the True Sun of Thy righteous-ness. Enlighten my mind and keep all my senses, that henceforth I may walk uprightly and keep Thy com-
mandments, and may finally attain unto eternal life, even to Thee, Who art the source of life, and be admitted to
the glorious fruition of Thy inaccessible Light. For Thou art my
God, and unto Thee, O Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be ascribed glory, now and ever and unto ages of
ages. Amen.
Prayers of Thanksgiving
The Trials of Faith
My beloved,
Just recently Mexico suffered from the most intense storm ever recorded in the Western Hemi-
sphere, Hurricane Patricia. The country and their cities, all prepared for whatever catastrophe would
come. Some people went to temporary shelters, others piled up sandbags or whatever was possible to
protect their homes. They boarded up their windows and doors, and secured all loose items. They pre-
pared for the worst and many even prepared throughout the night. Even if there was a chance that it might
pass them by – they prepared.
In sight of disaster, they prepared. This is no different of a scenario than the tests, the trial and
tribulations that the Lord allows before us on a daily basis. Our faith is tested because the reward is great.
Just like the winds that blew and the rivers that swelled during the hurricane, each of us in our lives are
like the grasses of the field that are being blown and tossed about.
When our faith is weak, we are no different than all the people who did not prepare for the hurri-
cane. We are caught off-guard when we are tested. The wind not only can easily blow us down but it can
strip us of our strength. A man, who has faith, is like all those who have prepared; like those who strength-
ened their foundations to withstand the high winds and raging waters. Strong faith requires much effort
on our behalf. The person with strong faith is strengthened even more by God when the trials of life ap-
pear.
Many times I hear from people that they can handle the big trials of life but that it is more difficult
for them with the day to day little trials. There is a lot of truth to this because the Lord sends strength to us
to endure the great battles. Things as fear and embarrassment can shake our very foundation. Fear of
what people will say about, for example, their Church and Faith, or embarrassment of what others will
think about them and their families when problems in life happen.
How do we survive? We survive by knowing that Christ was crucified and resurrected, that millions
upon millions of His saints were given trials much worse than anything we can imagine. The saints also
prepared and endured the tests of life. They ran the good race and won! Each of us is in the arena. The
Nave, the main body of our church edifice, is also called the arena of the saints. The Saints cheer us on from
the very walls of our churches. They pray for us to run the race well!
Sometimes preparation takes a lifetime, but you have to start day by day, even moment by moment.
Do the sign of the cross to be blessed and receive strength. Read the Daily Bible Readings. Pray, and if
prayer is difficult ask God to give you strength. Come to church more often and plan to come to weekday
services. And if you are in need and feeling weak, talk to the priest, ask the priest to come to your home to
bless it, or if there is a physical sickness to do the Holy Unction Service for your health and that of your
family. Go to Confession. Receive Holy Communion by fasting and asking those you have hurt for forgive-
ness. These are our mandatory preparations to conquer our trials and ultimately receive the great reward
of paradise - Salvation!
May our Lord, our God strengthen us and bless us to endure the trials of life!

MESSAGE FROM FR. NICK
Page 2e 22 Nativity Epistle
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, Last month, Father Nick, Diane Bageris, Anna Petrou and I represented our parish at the bi-annual Metropolis of Detroit Clergy-Laity and Philoptochos Conference. As part of the conference, each parish selected two members to be honored for their dedication to the church. This year, the well deserved honorees from our parish were Costa Kassapis and Freda Nicozisis. Thank you for many years of devoted service to the Lord though our par-ish. Congratulations! Furthermore, the conference theme was “Declare the Praises of Him Who Sent You!” and Metropolitan Nicholas gave a fantastic keynote address viewable at the Metropolis of De-troit website http://detroit.goarch.org or on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ZldnNUENGA. It is a moving speech in which Metropolitan Nicholas elaborates on the conference theme encouraging us to bring Christ into our lives while being prepared to wit-ness Him to those around us. Another topic presented was the history and progress of constructing the St. Nicholas Na-tional Shrine at Ground Zero. View the future St. Nicholas in this high definition virtual tour of the facility https://www.stnicholaswtc.org/architecture. Also, please be kindly reminded that our Fall General Assembly will be held on November 15th and your participation is vital to the wellbeing and growth of our community. There will be 5 seats open on the parish council next year so if your calling is to help administra-tively, please consider this 2 year commitment of service to the Lord. Nominations will be held at the general assembly with voting to be held at a later date. Lastly, in addition to Thanksgiving Day this month, there are many additional services to be thankful for on the November calendar: Divine Liturgies to commemorate St. Nektarios, St. John Chrysostom, Matthew the Apostle and Evangelist, Andrew the First Called Apostle, Katherine and Barbara the Great Martyrs and The Entrance of the Theotokos. What a blessed opportunity for our community to offer additional prayers and thanksgiving to the Glory of our Lord, God and Savior Jesus Christ! Yours In Christ, Louis Poulos Parish Council President

BRETHREN, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,
and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each
one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or
under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is
able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that
you may always have enough of everything and may provide
in abundance for every good work. As it is written, "He scatters
abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for
ever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food
will supply and multiply your resources and increase the har-
vest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way
for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiv-
ing to God.
