IntroductionIntroductionIntroductionIntroduction

• This is an Application Note for connectivity between a Siemens HiPath 4000 Release 3 PBX and Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express (CUCME) Release 7.1.0 using a Cisco 3825 voice gateway with QSIG protocol.

• The network topology diagram (Figure 1) shows the test setup for end-to-end interoperability with Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express Release 7.1.0 connected to the PBX via the 3825 E1 QSIG link. The CUCME 3825 IOS voice gateway has installed Cisco Unity Express 7.0.3 and is connected via H.323 to a second CUCME 3845 IOS voice gateway. The two gateways are running Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express 7.1.0. Cisco Unified IP phones (models 7960 and 7970) were connected to the 2 Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express gateways via SIP and SCCP, as per figure 1. A HWIC and VWIC-2MFT-E1 is used for the E1 QSIG interface. Calls were made to test basic call, caller ID, call conference, call transfer, call forward, reroute and voicemail features.

• The inclusion of Cisco SIP phones in this application note is for reference only. CME 7.1.0 supports SIP end-points with limited number of features.

• This Application Note uses the 3825 and 3845 voice gateways. However, the use of other Cisco voice gateways is also an option since Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express features do not depend on the Cisco IOS platform. The listed gateway families, below, can run Cisco Unified CallManager Express, but each have different IP phone support capability. Please check the product specifications to ensure you are obtaining the proper device to support your VoIP deployment.

LimitationsLimitationsLimitationsLimitations

Basic Calls

• Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express does not support overlap sending. It does support overlap receiving.

• Calling Name Restriction is not supported for calls originating from from Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express end-points.

• Connected Name and Number restriction is not supported by Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express.

Call Transfers

• Consulation, Early Attended and blind transfer (local): Cisco Unified Communication Manager Express does not update end-points with the information of external changed extension also, it does not update PBX with locally ’transferred to’ extension.

• For all supervised and early-attended Network/External call transfers, the original calling name and number are not displayed on the final destination. The limitation is due to the CME not supporting the QSIG operation”CallTransferComplete” carried in the Q931 FACILITY message for name/number updating

• Call fails for all supervised and early-attended network/External SIP calling SCCP transfering to PBX or SCCP calling SIP phone transfering to PBX.

• Calls fail during network/External blind transfer when PBX intiates the call and SCCP/SIP phone transfers back to PBX.

Call Forwards

• For call forward CFU, CFB and CFNR by join(Local), the forwarding called name is not updated on the final destination when the final destination is either SIP/SCCP.

• For call forward CFU, CFB and CFNR by join (Local and Network/External), final destination connected number is not updated on originating extension.

• For call forward CFU, CFB and CFNR by join or reroute (Network/External), the forwarding called name is not updated on the final destination.

• For call forward CFU CFB and CFNR by join (Network/External), the final destination connected name not updated at originating etenstion when the intiator and the final destination is a SIP phone. This is a CME to SIP phone limitation.

• Forwarded calls originated from PBX (CFU, CFB and CFNR by join) extension to a external Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express SCCP extension, and forwarded to PBX, final destination connected name is not updated on Originating phone.

• Forwarded calls originated from PBX (CFU, CFB and CFNR by join) extension to a external Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express SCCP extension and forwarded to local Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express SIP extension, forwarding number is not displayed on final destination.

• For call forward CFU CFB and CFNR by reroute (Network/External), the final destination connected name and number, and forwarding destination connected name and number are not updated at originating extenstion and final destinations respectively when the intiator and the final destination is a SIP phone.
