When asked if house prices are sustainable …• 53% of those in the ‘Paying the Mortgage’ segment and 52% of

‘Family Value’/’Cash Conscious Communities’ believe house pricesare sustainable and that people can't afford to pay their mortgage.

• This view was alsoshared by the‘Flourishing Society’segment where 50%agreed with thesentiment.

• However only 37% of the‘Business Elite’ believedthis to be the case.

The analysis on the YouGovmarket research shows thatdespite the fact thatmortgage approvals havecontinued fall for a fourth successive month (an indicator of futuresales), combined with the continued speculation within the market thatproperty prices are set to fall and interest rates rise by 2015, the‘Business Elite’ still have confidence in the property market.

MINIMUM STANDARDS OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY TO BE SET FOR PRS HOMES

The government has announced its intention to setminimum standards for the private rented sector at an EPCrating of E.

This would mean that after 2018 no privately rented homeshould be let unless they have an energy performance ratingof band E or higher, removing some of the very worst andunhealthy housing from the rented market.

Zoe Leader, climate & energy specialist for WWF-UK said:“The proposed minimum standard of band E for privately rented homes is an important precedent forimproving the energy efficiency of our housing stock and most definitely a step in the right direction.

“However, it looks like landlords will not actually be required to improve their properties if they fail tomeet the minimum standard unless improvements can be funded by the Green Deal or ECO. Givenongoing uncertainties around these policies, there is a high probability that these proposals will amountto blanket exemption for a significant number of landlords.

“The Government must address these loopholes to ensure landlords are held responsible for the energyefficiency of the homes they profit from.”

The financial capability charity The Money Charityreleased The Money Statistics.

The report gives an overview of the financial situation in theUK, and new statistics reveal it could take the average personover 22 years to save up for the deposit on their first home. The report has uncovered that despite an improving economicoutlook, many young people are still left struggling to buytheir first home.

Based on figures from the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the average deposit for a first-time buyer is£27,719. With the average household saving 4.9% of their income it would take 22 years for someoneon the average salary, saving the average amount per household every year in an instant access savingsaccount, to afford the average first-time buyer deposit.

These findings explain the reasons behind the growing number of adults choosing to still live with theirparents, and the disillusionment felt amongst a generation hoping to own their first home without needingto rely on the help of their parents or family members.
