IDM

A compact and economical multifunction data

acquisition system with unrivalled functionality

and performance

The IDM is designed to address the data recording

requirements of modern distr ibut ion or transmiss ion networks.

The product, when coupled with ReplayPlus software, provides

a powerfu l p lat form for the acquis i t ion, analys is and report ing

of data from power system substat ions.

Each IDM DAU - equipped with a 16-bit processor, 16-bit A/D and powerful DSP processor -

processes analog input data each cycle to compute, in real time, 100 power system

quantities including real and reactive power, sequence components, phasors, harmonics,

frequency, etc. These quantities are then used for simultaneous fault recording, disturbance /

slow scan recording, phasor measurement, power quality recording (EN50160) and can also

be made available to other substation IEDs for integration into SCADA systems.

TWS

An advanced overhead line fault locator

combining high performance with unrivalled

accuracy

The Telefaul t TWS operates on the travel l ing wave pr inc ip le

and provides an accuracy of ±150m (±500ft) . I t can be used

on high voltage AC l ines of any length, inc luding those

contain ing sect ions of cable, paral le l c i rcu i ts, tapped loads and

ser ies capaci tors. I t can also be used on HVDC l ines.

The Telefault TWS provides three different of fault location; Type A, Type D and Type

E. In the Type A and D modes the fault location is determined using the transients generated

by the fault itself. In the Type E mode faults are located using the transients generated by the

re-closure of the circuit breaker onto the faulty line after the initial trip. The TWS is

unaffected by fault resistance and provides a consistent level of accuracy many times better

than conventional ‘impedance’ type fault locators. Phase to ground faults, phase to phase

faults and broken conductor faults, including those clear of ground where no fault current

flows, can all be located with the TWS.

character ist ics, ampl i tude, expansion and compar ison of

previous faul t data with new data.

The standard version of Telefault TWS can accommodate up to eight line modules so that

eight circuits can be monitored simultaneously. An integral GPS time receiver is used to

provide the sub-microsecond timing accuracy required for Type D operation whilst multi-

channel high-speed transient recording is used for Type A and Type D operation.

DSFL

An inexpensive overhead line fault locator for

small transmission networks or distribution

systems

The Telefaul t DSFL is des igned to accurate ly locate faul ts on

unbranched high voltage overhead l ine networks which may

inc lude short lengths of underground cable. When used on

more complex branched networks the DSFL wi l l accurate ly

locate faul ts on the main l ine and ident i fy a faulty branch.

The Telefault DSFL uses the properties of travelling waves initiated by a fault to determine

the position of the fault. The preferred method of detection of the travelling waves is through

the use of simple ‘clamp on’ sensors which are placed around the secondary wiring of

existing protection CTs. Where no CTs are available, the signals may be derived from existing

capacitor voltage transformers or power line signalling couplers.

GPS

A simple, inexpensive and highly accurate

substation clock time synchroniser that can be

used with all makes of equipment

The Telefaul t GPS provides t iming accurate to ±1µs using the

internat ional sate l l i te Global Pos i t ioning System (GPS).

Compact and easy to insta l l , i t provides output s ignal formats

to match the requirements of a l l avai lable Disturbance

Recorders, Sequence of Event Recorders and SCADA systems.

The Telefault GPS offers electrical power systems operators an inexpensive means of

significantly improving both the value of their investment in equipment and the usefulness of

the acquired data. Using time signals transmitted by the NAVSTAR constellation of GPS

satellites, the GPS meets all the needs of all differing equipment types and manufacturers.

Local time offset from UTC can be set by the operator or at the factory.

One set of GLS equipment comprises three identical voltage monitoring units configured as

one Master and two Slaves (A and B). These identities are held in software and displayed

when the units are switched on. They communicate by infra-red and the distance to fault is

calculated and displayed by the Master unit. The GLS system has been built into small waterproof

cases which can be left connected in most link boxes and lighting columns.

GLS

An advanced and simple to use system for

locating intermittent and permanent faults on

low voltage cables

The Telefaul t GLS provides a means of pre- locat ing faults on

low voltage cables by the voltage gradient method. These

state of the art instruments make poss ib le the instantaneous

measurement and recording of vol tages along a faulty cable

FPIP2000

FPI - a safe and simple system for sectionalising

intermittent faults on low voltage power cables

An inexpensive device for faul t sect ional isat ion to reduce both

customer interrupt ions and customer minutes lost.

Combines the funct ions of a high accuracy TDR and a

disturbance recorder in a compact and robust portable unit .

P2000 - a revolutionary instrument for locating

all types of faults on low voltage power cables

The Telefault FPI Fault Passage Indicators (bottom right) are simply placed over the links in

link boxes along the route of a suspect cable. Following any subsequent fuse operation any

FPI units between the substation and the fault point will be triggered thereby allowing the

faulty section to be identified. A clamp on version of the FPI is also available.

The Telefault P2000 (bottom left) is suitable for all types of low voltage cable faults and

especially the difficult and troublesome intermittent fault. It is connected simultaneously to

all 3 phases of the faulty LV cable for triggering/voltage recording and to allow TDR testing

on any combination of phases. Remote operation is available via the internal GSM modem.

A powerful, cost effective test system providing

highly accurate information for factory and field

testing of circuit breakers

The easy to use breaker tester.

With results anyone can understand.

The CBT-200 and CBT-400 are sel f-conta ined portable test sets

designed to perform timing and test ing on high voltage circui t

breakers. Microprocessor based, the systems have the abi l i ty

to store test records in internal memory which can be

downloaded to a PC at the operators convenience.

The CBT-200 / 400 systems can monitor contact opening / closing, trip / close coil currents

and mechanism travel and velocity. The CBT can perform automatic result analysis using pre-

programmed limits for expected results. When a breaker test is carried out the CBT

compares the actual results with those expected. Any variances outside the limits are

indicated on the print-out and LCD display. Results are presented in both tabular and

graphical format using the built-in fixed head thermal printer.

Test resul ts can also be downloaded from the CBT to

ReplayPlus where they can be analyzed and archived. A Remote

Conf igurat ion program al lows modi f icat ion of test parameters

via a PC and results may also be transferred to Microsoft

Access for easy generat ion and customis ing of reports.

16 different set-up configurations can also be stored within the CBT, any of which can be

accessed on site. All results can be stored within the CBT's internal memory and retrieved at

a later date via direct computer link or modem, eliminating the requirement for a PC to be

carried on site.

enhancing CBT capabi l i t ies // Tap Changer, Micro-Ohm

Tap ChangerMicro-Ohm

Tap Changer - a clear insight into the mechanical

condition of a tap changer transformer

This diagnost ic tool makes use of the var iable sample rates of

the CBT to perform two dist inct tests.

This interface measures both Main and Arc ing contact t imes,

length and res istance dur ing a ‘dynamic ’ c lose-open operat ion.

Micro-Ohm - a safe, simple facility to record the

‘dynamic’ contact resistance of a circuit breaker

The interface (bottom left), performs a long duration test to quickly identify a high resistance

contact as the transformer is switched from first to last tap and a short duration record

between two taps to identify the integrity and switching sequence of the diverter resistors.

With the Micro-Ohm Interface (bottom right), all measurements are carried out during routine

testing. This is immensely beneficial for use on circuit breakers where it may be impractical

to dismantle and visually inspect the condition of the contacts, for example SF switchgear.6

RTR

A diagnostic tool which can accurately assess the

condition of circuit breakers with minimum of

time, effort and expense

The RTR 200 al lows a breaker to be tested whi le remaining in

serv ice. The system has been designed to monitor several

common signals in the contro l c i rcu i try of the c ircui t breaker,

typica l ly tr ip and close coi l current, supply voltage dip, A, B or

C3 auxi l iary contacts and tr ip and close in i t iat ion.

These and other electrical signals are brought to a permanently installed connector in the

breaker mechanism cabinet. To perform a test the RTR 200 recorder is connected to this pre-

wired plug and the breaker is operated remotely. The RTR 200 stores the data from the test

and is then disconnected to be moved to the next breaker. The resulting trace can be

considered as the fingerprint of a given circuit breaker. The essence of the RTR-200 concept

is the comparison of these fingerprints.
