Rabbi’s Voice Rabbi Stephen H. Pinksy A LETTER TO ERIC BAKERMAN Dear Eric: It is hard for me to believe that you will be stepping down as President of Temple Beth Torah at the end of this month. I know that there will come a time when members of the congregation will be called upon to express our gratitude to you for the three and a half years of exemplary leadership you have brought us. Whatever we say or do will, of course, be in- adequate, as is this brief note. You stepped into the position of the presidency in a time of enormous economic and political strain for this congregation and, sadly, you are leaving it in another time of extraordinary stress brought about by the current recession. Between those two crises, you have been deeply involved in nearly every area of Temple life. From our youth activities to our social justice en- deavors, from our financial problems to our educational pro- grams, the needs and the goals of Temple Beth Torah have been a part of your being. Your understanding of the details of every day problems, as well as the larger vision of the synagogue, has been remarkable. You always knew where we ought to be go- ing and you spared no effort in seeing to it that we kept moving in the right direction. It has not been an easy period for those of us who love this synagogue. A changing congregation and changing times re- quired fresh approaches, programs and policies. Fiscal concerns weighed heavily on us as on other institutions and you leaned upon the leadership – lay and professional – to make sure that everything we did in and for the congregation was both respon- sible and necessary. In spite of the many challenges we faced, these past three and a half years have been characterized by growth and enrichment of our congregants, the South Florida Jewish community and the Jewish people. How did you do it? With an all-consuming dedication that brought you to the Temple nearly every day, early or late, with your office and home phone lines always open to members, trus- tees and staff. You did it with an optimistic view that empha- sized possibilities over problems and that encouraged new ideas and new directions. And most significant of all, you led us with a growing spiritual commitment, ever reminding us of the syna- gogue’s sacred responsibility to do God’s work. When you spoke to us, whether at the High Holy Days or during a Friday evening service, it was never just a perfunctory announcement or greeting, it was in fact always an affirmation of your faith. Thus, we salute you, Eric, for all of the devotion you have given to every one of us and I thank you for the very special friendship we have developed. I will never forget your personal support and your never-ending encouragement when times seemed difficult for me. A LETTER TO ERIC BAKERMAN

Dear Eric:

It is hard for me to believe that you will be stepping down as President of Temple Beth Torah at the end of this

month. I know that there will come a time when members of the congregation will be called upon to express our gratitude to you for the three and a half years of exemplary leadership you have brought us. Whatever we say or do will, of course, be in-adequate, as is this brief note.

You stepped into the position of the presidency in a time of enormous economic and political strain for this congregation and, sadly, you are leaving it in another time of extraordinary stress brought about by the current recession. Between those two crises, you have been deeply involved in nearly every area of Temple life. From our youth activities to our social justice en-deavors, from our financial problems to our educational pro-grams, the needs and the goals of Temple Beth Torah have been a part of your being. Your understanding of the details of every day problems, as well as the larger vision of the synagogue, has been remarkable. You always knew where we ought to be go-ing and you spared no effort in seeing to it that we kept moving in the right direction.

It has not been an easy period for those of us who love this synagogue. A changing congregation and changing times re-quired fresh approaches, programs and policies. Fiscal concerns weighed heavily on us as on other institutions and you leaned upon the leadership – lay and professional – to make sure that everything we did in and for the congregation was both respon-sible and necessary. In spite of the many challenges we faced, these past three and a half years have been characterized by growth and enrichment of our congregants, the South Florida Jewish community and the Jewish people.

How did you do it? With an all-consuming dedication that brought you to the Temple nearly every day, early or late, with your office and home phone lines always open to members, trus-tees and staff. You did it with an optimistic view that empha-sized possibilities over problems and that encouraged new ideas and new directions. And most significant of all, you led us with a growing spiritual commitment, ever reminding us of the syna-gogue’s sacred responsibility to do God’s work.

You have been an extraordinary leader of Temple Beth Torah and you have become a wonderful friend. And you’d better believe it!

Yours sincerely, Stephen H. Pinsky

Shalom President’s Message

I have been thinking about this column - my last as president - for some weeks. Serving as president has been a gift that I will treasure for all my days. Without question, it has been the most rewarding volunteer experience I have ever had. No experience has been a greater honor, or led to greater per-sonal growth for me, than the honor of serving as president of this congrega-tion.

I must express my deep appreciation to everyone who has toiled on behalf of Temple Beth Torah during my term as president. To the extent I can point to achievements during the past three and one half years, they are congregational achievements, made possible by the collective efforts of innumerable congre-gants, along with our staff and clergy, joined in sacred work. Not one of them is a personal achievement; each and every one is a reflection of many minds which came together and in a team effort.

To Rabbi Pinsky, Cantor Barry, my fellow Temple officers, elected Board members, Brotherhood, Sisterhood and TiBToFTY presidents, our Religious School and Preschool teachers and staff, committee chairs, committee members and volunteers, with friendship and humility, I thank you for your efforts. You are why Temple Beth Torah is such a truly exceptional community.

I must thank Louise Marks for accepting the nomination as our next presi-dent. She will serve us well, and with your support, she too will find being president rewarding. I also offer congratulations to all the nominees standing for election at the coming annual meeting. Nomination is a wonderful recognition that has come because of service to the congregation and a commitment to Ju-daism and the values we cherish. I look forward to continuing as a member of the Board of Trustees, working with returning and new members of the Board and working on projects that impact the larger Jewish community and our Re-form movement.

I also want to recognize Gregg Levi who is retiring at the end of this term. His service as a Vice President and as a member of the Board of Trustees cannot be overlooked. His quiet confidence, leadership and counsel will be surely missed. I look forward to his return to the leadership in the near future.

To all whom I touched in some way on this wonderful journey, thank you for letting me be a part of your lives. To anyone I may have unintentially of-fended, please know that my singular purpose and goal has been to make Tem-ple Beth Torah a shining star in the community in which we live and raise our children and I sincerely apologize. To those who supported our efforts finan-cially and to those who supported me in their hearts and with their spirit, I also say thank you.

Lastly, I want to thank my family for without their support and understanding I could not have done this job. To Earlene, Philip and Sara, I love you all for who you are and for your acceptance of the days and nights when I was not at home but at the Temple. Thank you for sharing me with our other family – our “family of families.”

B’shalom, Eric W. Bakerman

The Cantor’s Song

Tradition teaches that the Torah yields 613 command-ments. One would think that this daunting total would be suffi-cient for most Jews, yet the Torah portion Naso describes addi-tional regulations which one could assume under the status of being a "Nazirite", one consecrated to the service of God. The sixth chapter of Numbers teaches that one who wishes to be-come a Nazirite does so through the following rituals: the taking of a vow, the avoidance of intoxicants, abstaining from cutting one’s hair, and keeping adequate distance from a corpse. Why would an ancient Israelite, already subject to the re-quirements of the Torah, voluntarily assume additional obliga-tions? Perhaps the obvious answer is that every religious tradition shows evidence of a tendency towards fanatical performance that marks one as exceptionally dedicated to the Divine. While the inclination towards religious devotion is admirable, it also carries with it the risk of suggesting that lesser observance is inadequate. Regrettably, what often starts out as a quest to strengthen one's own religious identity may result in the adoption of a se-vere lifestyle which can separate one from one's community or family. The restrictions on the Nazirite may in fact have been designed to make people think twice before assuming the obliga-tion and to deflect the temporarily inspired from assuming an obligation they would then come to see as a burden.

The Nazirite tradition eventually faded from Judaism when it was no longer possible to observe the cultic Temple rituals. The tendency towards assuming ever-more stringent observance continues throughout Jewish history, however, a current exam-ple being "modern Orthodoxy" whose members find themselves under siege from the right for "only" being Orthodox. Religious devotion is noble and healthy. There is nothing wrong with trying to observe more, and assuming for oneself certain restrictions. But such personal decisions should be seen as acts of involvement and not of isolation, and those whose levels of observance differ need not be disparaged. As Reform Jews, we can often feel like we are on the defen-sive. We don’t do enough, we don’t know enough, and to some we’re not even considered Jewish! But Reform Judaism is about informed choice in observance and as the Bible itself indi-cates, there are many paths to the One God. Sometimes, it is during our journeys on the least traveled paths that we discover the Divine. May your summer be full of exploration and discovery: of yourself, of your world, and of your God. B’shirah, Carrie Barry

Summer’s here and most of us will have some extra time on our hands. Why not spend some time studying Torah. Rabbi Eugene Borowitz, of Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion, defines Torah broadly as “the substance of our ongo-ing Jewish religious experience.” Learning, interpreting, and striving to “live” it have long been central to the existence of the Jewish people. Simon the Righteous illustrates the centrality of Torah in the life of the Jewish people in this well-known teach-ing: “The world stands on three things- the Torah, prayer, and acts of loving-kindness.” (Pirke Avot 1:2) Torah study connects us to others, to ourselves, and to God. Joel Grishaver, writes: “It is important to understand that learn-ing is a spiritual process. It is a way of bonding deep friendships with others, it is a method of coming to understand ourselves, and it is a path towards God. For the Jew, learning is also a process of world change, a process of directing humanity toward its potential. For Jews, Jewish learning [Torah learning] is a holy process.” We are obligated to study Torah, to wrestle with it, to argue with and to grow with it. The blessing for Torah study com-mands us to engage with the text. The Hebrew for “to engage,” the verb la-asok, can also mean “to engage in” and “to trade” (in terms of business). These are activities that are better to do with others. So spend some time this summer studying Torah with your families or on-line. Some on-line resources include:

On Thursday, May 27th, 58 of our PreK children gradu-ated from preschool. About 350 guests attended this event, which is the first of many graduation ceremonies our children will attend over their academic lives. The evening was high-lighted by some very special presentations and a dessert and dance reception for the graduates. Thank you to the VPO and the Sisterhood for providing each graduate with a memorable gift. Congratulations to the Temple Beth Torah Leonie Ar-guetty Preschool Class of 2009! To date, we have 60 children enrolled in our Enrich-ment Camp! There is still time to sign-up for our exciting themed camp program for children 2-6 years old . . . space is still available in some of the groups! You can customize the camp program to accommodate summer vacation and travel plans by choosing the weeks and days you would like your child to at-tend. This year’s camp will features popular weekly themes such as Creepy, Crawly Critters, Sizzling Summer Fun, You’re a Grand ‘Ole Flag, Fly Me to the Moon, Rainbow of Colors, Let’s Get Cookin’, Our Fossil Friends, and Clowning Around. Camp begins on June 15th and runs for 8 weeks through August 7th. If you are considering enrolling your child, please stop by the pre-school office ASAP for an enrollment packet. We are also thrilled with the popularity of our teen CIT program. However, due to the overwhelming interest this year, we are no longer accepting requests for additional camp volun-teers. This school year has been a ten month journey of learn-ing, laughter, changes and transitions. We have come full circle, and all of our children and parents have joined together with our preschool staff to become the heart of the loving community that forms our Temple Beth Torah Leonie Arguetty Preschool fam-ily. As our school year comes to a close (and our fun-filled sum-mer camp prepares to begin), I want to express my thanks and appreciation to the many people who contributed their time, effort and enthusiasm throughout the school year. Caring for and nurturing the children is the mission and joy of our enthusiastic, talented and dedicated staff of wonderful teachers. Each and every day they greeted the children with warmth, kindness and excitement. They ensured that every child was provided with the tools and resources necessary to de-velop to his or her own potential at a pace and in a manner de-signed to enhance potential and cultivate individual talents. In future years, the learning relationships that the children have ex-perienced with these fine teachers will serve as strong building blocks for their future growth and development. This school and its outstanding reputation in the community is the product of their efforts. These individuals are the heart and soul of our school. Their talents, energy and passion leave an indelible mark on the children that walk through these hallways! As proud as we are of our teachers, there are others who support and contribute their unique talents to our school. Annette Muniz not only serves as the face of our Tem-ple, greeting all visitors to the office as they enter, she is also the coordinator of all of the ongoing operations of everything that we do in our school. She has the unenviable task of making or-der of the chaos that can occur behind the scenes as twenty-seven dedicated teaching staff members provide for the needs of more than 150 preschoolers. That you see only the polished,

finished product is testimony to her skill and efficiency. I can not adequately thank Annette for all that she does to make our school the phenomenal place that it is. The Preschool Committee and VPO are comprised of dedicated and involved parents who spend countless hours of their own time to assist our professional staff and serve as volun-teers. They attend meetings, plan and operate fundraising and social events, and advise and participate in the initiation of poli-cies and procedures that are needed to run our school. It is in no small part due to their efforts that we have been able to secure and maintain a reputation of as one of the high quality preschools in the Palm Beach County area. My heartfelt thanks and appre-ciation goes to Caroline Epstein, who served as both the chair-person of the Preschool Committee and co-chair of the VPO, and Monica Alexandrescu, VPO co-chair, as well as to all of the members of their hard working committees for everything that they have done throughout the school year to make us look so good. Let me also wish Mazel Tov to Amy Rochman and Misty Roseff who will serve as our volunteer Co-chairs of the VPO for the next school year and to Caroline Epstein who will continue as Chairperson of the Preschool Committee. The experience that our children share at the preschool is enhanced and expanded by the time that they spend with Rabbi Pinsky and Cantor Barry. Our Tot Shabbats and Shabbat Sing-A-Longs distinguish this school from all others, and it is a joy and an honor that our children are able to begin per-sonal relationships with their Rabbi and Cantor at such a young age. The children have loved their presence in our school! Library time with Fran Lerner and Louise Marks has become a vital part of our weekly programming. Our sincere thanks to both of them for donating their time each week and sharing their literary expertise and playful nature with the chil-dren. We look forward to new stories and surprises at camp this summer. A huge thank you goes to the many temple families who supported our Adopt-a-Class initiative and our many other fundraising activities this year. We count on you and greatly ap-preciate your year round support of the preschool. A special thanks goes to TBT Sisterhood and Brotherhood for their con-tinued support of our preschool. Many of our activities are en-hanced by their behind the scenes efforts and support. Of course, I also want to express my great appreciation to Eric Bak-erman and the entire Board of Trustees for their guidance, assis-tance and support of the preschool and its new Director. It is the fulfillment of a personal and professional dream and goal to serve as your preschool director. I am excited and incredibly proud to have been given the privilege, opportunity and challenge of being the Director of this wonderful place throughout the coming years. Have a happy and healthy summer! Shalom, Sandy Wilensky Preschool Director

Shalom Everyone. The Sisterhood of Temple Beth Torah is a dynamic organization and an important part of our Synagogue. We are committed to programs and activities that encourage and enlighten our mem-bers and enhance the Temple experience. We are well on our way to planning an exciting and eventful year. Look for lots of new innovative programs that will educate, enrich and entertain you. As you may have noticed, the gift shop is undergoing a “renovation.” Be on the lookout for new merchandise for all your gift giving needs and don’t forget that a gift shop purchase

helps to fund all of our ongoing programs. We are also asking all B’nai Mitzvah parents to stop in or make an appointment to look at our tallit and kipot selections to make your celebration com-plete. Let’s remember that the mission of Sisterhood is to support our congregation, its preschool and religious school and to strengthen our commitment to Reform Judaism. Membership Committee Honors Diane Marks as Volunteer of the Month for May. Since affiliating with our congregation, Diane Marks has been a true temple activist with a wide-ranging interest in temple life and activities. You can usually find Diane worshipping with the congregation nearly every Shabbat. As a member of our Social Justice Committee, Diane has taken leadership roles in a variety of important projects such as the “Triangles of Truth” sale which was an integral part of the “Save Darfur” initiative. She chaired the temple’s first Social Justice Weekend earlier this year, secured its primary scholar and organized the interactive luncheon. Diane was also part of a group that assisted our Religious School by serving as a docent for a project that was held in the absence of the school’s director and faculty. As a member of Sisterhood she took an active role in the “Junque to Gems” event by donat-ing merchandise, setting up, cleaning up, selling and bringing in

extra help – never a job too large or small for Diane! Diane is also a member of our Avodah (worship) Committee and serves as the committee minutes recorder for a number of committees she serves with. Diane just completed her service as a member of the temple’s important Nominating Committee. In addition to everything else, she has taken on the role of increasing our congregation’s knowledge about and membership in ARZA (Association of Reform Zionists of America), the advocacy group for Reform and Progressive Judaism in Israel. Diane does all of this while maintaining a full time professional position. Diane truly exemplifies the spirit of Temple Beth To-rah volunteers and we join in a heartfelt yasher koach for her service.

I can’t believe summer is almost here! Looking back on this year, we have accomplished many great things. Sometimes people see the Brotherhood as a group of guys who meet once a month and plan sporting events to attend. Our Brotherhood at Temple Beth Torah is probably one of the most active in South Florida. We are a diverse group of men ranging from the 30’s to 80’s who work together to provide a foundation to help support the Temple through our tremendous work. This year the Brother-hood has done the following: • Donated $500 to the Passover Fund to help those who could

not afford to attend. • Donated $2600 to the Temple’s Families in Need Program. • Provided 10 college scholarships to our graduating high

school seniors. $3100. • Jets vs. Dolphins Game • Was a sponsor for Mitzvah Day • Was a sponsor for Miles for Smiles • 96 people will be attending the Yankees vs. Marlins game in

June. • Texas Hold’em Poker Tournaments • Donated money for Summer Camp Scholarships. • 6th Annual Golf Tournament at Bink’s Forest • Two Temple Breakfasts sponsored by Brotherhood. • Our Annual Paid up Dinner at the Players Club. This is just a few of the spectacular work and programs the Brotherhood has done. These programs are very important and continue each year due to your support and involvement. We are looking for new and old members to step up to the plate and help us continue to provide these outstanding programs and events.

Sport Fans: • TBT Brotherhood has tickets available to the October 25,

2009 Dolphins game versus the Saints. • Game time is 4:15 PM. • Ticket price of $55 includes round-trip bus transportation,

pre-game tailgate meal, and a voucher for a hot dog and soda once the game starts.

• Bus will leave the Temple parking lot around 1:30 PM on game day.

• Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis. Last year’s game sold out quickly. Call Vince Gerardi for more details at 561-309-7169.

Dolphins versus Jets • TBT Brotherhood is considering buying a limited number

of tickets to the 10/12 Monday Night Football game, Dol-phins versus Jets.

• Game time is 8:30 PM. • Tickets would cost $100, which would include round-trip

bus and pregame meal. • We will consider buying the tickets if we get at least 20 par-

ticipants. Please reply via e-mail to [email protected].

This has been a banner year for the Social Justice Committee. In addition to a landmark year for PEACE (People Engaged in Ac-tive Community Efforts), several other projects were successfully completed. But first, let’s talk about PEACE. This year’s PEACE Action Assembly had almost 1,000 people in attendance, in spite of a huge thunderstorm. Temple Beth Torah turned out 95 peo-ple! So what was accomplished? To save space we will try to summarize! 1) Affordable Housing Commissioner Koons made a commitment to propose a resolu-tion which dedicates two funding streams for our local housing trust fund in Palm Beach County - the buyout money from the Mandatory Inclusionary Zoning Ordinance, and the interest earned on developers’ impact fees. We also secured commit-ments from Commissioners Vana and Santamaria that they would support this resolution. There were other County Com-missioners who were not able to attend the PEACE Action As-sembly, but we have reason to believe will also support these actions. 2) Youth Crime There were commitments from 3 board members of our Crimi-nal Justice Commission: • State Attorney Michael McAuliffe • Public Defender Carrie Haughwout • Chief Probation Officer / Department of Juvenile Justice rep

Feirmon Johnson At the May 26th Criminal Justice Commission, they will propose to the rest of the Board that the Criminal Justice Commission direct their staff to come up with a plan for Neighborhood Ac-countability Boards for presentation at the November annual planning meeting. Their Executive Director, Mike Rodriguez, then committed to indeed come up with this plan if directed to do so. A Neighborhood Accountability System is in place already in Broward County and in other locations throughout Florida. This model brings together the victim, the offender, and the community, and has been proven to lower repeat offences by criminals in communities where it is implemented.

3) Health Care for the Uninsured In the 2008 to 2009 PEACE year, 10 million dollars in addi-tional health insurance was provided by the Health Care District above and beyond any previous increase. This allowed many residents in Palm Beach County to receive health care which would not have been possible. At last year’s PEACE rally, Dwight Chenette made a public commitment to increase enroll-ment. 4) Genocide Prevention The Triangles of Truth Program was launched to raise Temple awareness of our responsibility to fight against genocide. We placed 643 triangles around the Temple, and $643 was contrib-uted to a worldwide effort that raised huge sums of money. In addition, a “stop genocide” lawn sign was posted on the Temple grounds. 5) Ethiopian Jewry The Ethiopian Jewry Exhibit was staffed by Social Justice Com-mittee 6.) Social Justice Weekend – “Finding Your Jewish Voice” A Temple tradition was launched which included a Social Justice Shabbat, a luncheon featuring Rabbi Allison Abrams on Satur-day, and Mitzvah Day on Sunday. FINALLY, THERE IS NO WAY TO ADEQUATELY THANK ALL THOSE WHO WORKED HUNDREDS OF HOURS TO MAKE ALL OF THESE THINGS HAPPEN. WE ARE IN AWE OF THE WAY TEMPLE MEMBERS ACCOMPLISHED 3 THINGS: • You further enriched the depth and quality of our Temple

culture by establishing a strong Social Justice arm in accor-dance with Micah 6:8.

• You practiced our Jewish Faith “tikkun olam” by repairing the world.

• You helped to improve the image of the Jewish people in our community by working side by side with congregations of many faiths and races.

We were the recipients of a grant from the Weiner Charitable Foundation which allowed us to bring Joel Grishaver and Janie Grackin to Temple Beth Torah for an exciting Scholars-In-Residence Weekend. The weekend began on Friday morning with Joel leading our parents in a conversation with regard to parents talking to their children about God.

This was followed by story-telling with Janie for our preschoolers and their parents. Shabbat eve was a family Shabbat with story-telling and music. Our scholars shared the essence of Shabbat through Jewish whimsy and wisdom.

Shabbat morning services were enriched by the talents of Joel and Janie who joined Rabbi Pinsky and Cantor Barry to create a unique prayer environment. Saturday we celebrated Havadalah with our two scholars who spoke of the teachings of Rabbi Nach-man of Bretzlav, the great grandson of the Baal Shem Tov, as they intertwined the power of music and the traits of successful lead-ership, to create a magical Havdalah experience.

Sunday morning was the closing day celebration for Religious School students and parents. Our scholars enhanced the last day of Religious School for students and parents alike. Sunday evening our Mitzvah Corps, eighth and ninth graders and their parents were led by Joel as he walked the path of Jewish ethical dilemmas.

It was an extraordinary weekend experience for everyone and one we hope to repeat in the future.

Temple Beth Torah’s Youth Committee has reason to celebrate; we currently have over 75 kids involved in our youth groups. We have sent a record high of 13 high school students to the regional spring convention held in March for leadership training. We have a wonderful new board of officers recently elected under the leadership of Jessica Starkschall our advisor.

• Michael Lebowitz - President • Logan Tessler - Membership Vice President • Jacob Georginow - Programming Vice President • Eliza Schlein - Social Action Vice President • Jordan Adler - Communication Vice President • Jamie Fisher - Religious and Cultural Vice President

Without the support of the entire congregation, we would not have a cadre of dedicated and committed Jewish youth. The support and funding comes from each of you who support the temple budget by being a member, and you who support all of our fundraising efforts. The goal of the committee is to support our youth, and instill in them a love of Judaism and a connection to their Jewish roots; ultimately ensuring the survival of the Jew-ish People. To achieve this goal, we plan programs for our elementary school age children at least twice per year. If you missed our “kid’s night out” please attend next time it is offered. Our craft projects on Sunday afternoons, and even our day at the beach are all geared to engage your child with other Jewish friends. For middle school age children we have Kochavim, our youth group which we charge only $18 for the year. In addition, every 8th grader who became a Bar//Bat Mitzvah in our congregation has a certificate for free for that year. This group has at least one program a month and the ability to meet other Jewish teens from all over Palm Beach County on a monthly basis. There is bus transportation provided at no charge and the function charge is nominal. Additionally, there is money available to assist anyone with financial need. High school students can join TiBTofTY our youth group which has 35 members. We are one chapter in the STAR (Southern Tropical Region), and are looked upon very favorably because of our participation in both chapter and regional events and the commitment of our teens. We have so much to offer our teens they only need to come and participate and lend their expertise and suggestions for more exciting things to offer them and their peers. The committee then reaches out to all of our high school gradu-ates by preparing homemade fleece blankets and gifts which are given to them in May when they are called to the Bema for a blessing as they go forward on to college, the military, or a ca-reer. While away at college they are sent e-mail greetings for holidays, Hanukkah gifts, Purim Mishloach Manot bags and other reminders from their temple family. Finally, upon gradua-tion from college we again try to give them a departing gift as they begin their own Jewish life independently. We truly pro-vide something for each and every child from preschool right on through college so long as we know where to find them. Behind the scenes this dedicated group of volunteers make sure that our children are kept involved Jewishly. Your support of

Café Bagel is the first step in helping our youth to earn funds to support their attending youth conventions without having to ask their parents for money to attend. Your support of Camp Jenny by walking or sponsoring a walker enables our kids to send chil-dren far less fortunate than themselves to overnight camp for a weekend at our very own Camp Coleman. Your support by sending Mishloach Manot Bags to your friends and neighbors allows you to follow the Jewish tradition of giving food as gifts for Purim and additionally funds our sending the same bags to all of our students away at college. As the academic year comes to a close, your donations in support of our college students gradua-tion gifts enables us to send them away with a constant reminder of the warmth and love of their Temple Beth Torah family as they wrap themselves in their fleece blankets. Without you and your support, none of this would be possible. The lives of our children for whom we have touched and provided for as they left home to make it on their own have been enriched because of us. The Thank You notes that we receive from these gradu-ates, and their appreciation for being remembered by our mem-bership, cannot be measured. Help us continue on the path of helping our children grow up into responsible Jewish adults the future depends upon us. Marcia Weber - Youth Committee Chair
