When the great dragon Hestaby leveled Saeder-

Krupps arcology in Dubai, a lot of people wondered if the

success of her act meant that Lofwyr & co. were off their

game. And of course, the corps of the Sixth World arent

ones to just sit around and speculateinstead, they act.

All of the sudden, corporations of all sizes are on the

move, snatching up any Saeder-Krupp clients they can

pry away, telling them that S-K cant be trusted in the

    current turmoil.

Saeder-Krupp, though, is not about to let anyone

believe they are weak. Theyre going to show that they

should never be trifled with, and that clients would

be well served to stay with themor risk the wrath of

Lofwyr. Theyre bringing runners to Dubai to demonstrate

that the largest megacorporation in the world still has

    strength to spare.

Damage Control is the first in the new Boardroom

Backstabsseries of adventures for Shadowrun. The

series explores one of the classic Shadowrunthemescorporate machinations where every handshake is

made with crossed fingers, and the hand you cant see

is always holding a knife. Theres a lot of money to be

made on this job, but runners better keep their wits

about them if they want to keep all those corporate

    sharks from feeding on them.

Damage Controlis for use with Shadowrun, Twentieth

    Anniversary Edition.

    . . . DAMAGE CONTROL . . .

As you always are, Master Lofwyr smiled briefly as hesignaled the driver to move on. The locals cannot be trusted. The blow was here because people who would betray us are here.Seek assets elsewhere; assets with the stomach and nerve to dowhat is needed.

Seattle, Brackhaus assured his Master. I can find assets ofthe highest quality there. By the end of the week, those who wouldthreaten your position here will regret their foolishness. I swear it.

What of the nodes? Are they all accounted for?A few are missing. Brackhaus knew not to hesitate when

reporting a shortcoming. Our agents are hunting for them as

we speak. Project 348 will remain secure.Be sure of it. I do not want that information to fall into her

hands. The mention of Hestaby brought an acid edge to his voice.I swear it, Brackhaus repeated.

Master Lofwyrs commlink chirped. Brackhaus saw thecallers name was Nicholas Whitebird before his Master turned

the device to read it for himself.Im sorry, my friend, but I must let you off here, Master

Lofwyrs voice was again mellifluous. If you would be so kind asto look into the affairs of our friend in this region?

I will do so personally, Brackhaus promised as the limou-sine stopped to let him out. You will have the answers you seek.

Master Lofwyr acknowledged the promise with a nod.As the limousine pulled away, Brackhaus did not question

his Master depositing him on a strange street in an unfamiliarcity, nor speculate on his reasons for doing so. His thoughts werefocused on his mission.

He hailed a taxi, reflexively scanning forand disablingmonitoring devices before climbing in.

Airport, he ordered, taking the first step toward his objective.

Thearmored l imousine slowed as it passed the mass oftwisted metal and crumbled plascrete that until recently hadbeen the Middle East Headquarters of Saeder-Krupp. Hans

Brackhaus knew the locals were already calling the devastationwrought by the great dragon Hestabys unprovoked attack thecrater, but said nothing; waiting as always for his master to

speak. Nothing of Master Lofwyrs visage revealed his thoughtsas he surveyed the ruin, but Brackhaus was sure he was al-ready divining how to turn this catastrophe to his advantage.Master Lofwyr had a gift for finding victory where others sawashes. Brackhaus knew his Master dissected Hestabys everyaction, noting the strengths of her spirits, the potency of herspells, the wisdom of her choices; every nuance told him some-thing of her strengths and weaknesses. Master Lofwyr saw

things Brackhaus could not imagine, and would no doubt usewhat he saw here to craft a triumph from this ruin. Thoughwhat a triumph in dragon politics would mean to metahumans

Brackhaus could not imagine.Blood in the water, my dear friend, Lofwyr said. They

think theyve detected a vulnerability, so they strike at us fromthe shadowsthen flee back to the shadows in case they un-derestimated our strength. This is the first step of a familiardance. Feel how charged the atmosphere is? I know that feelingwell. They will be coming from the shadows again.

Brackhaus felt nothing in the atmosphere, but he under-stood his Masters intent.

And I will be there when they do, he promised. To makethem regret their decision.

    INTRODUCTION

Damag e Control is the irst o the Boardroom Backstabsseries o adventures created especially or Shadowrun, wentieth

Anniversary Edition.Boardroom Backstabs adventures give playersthe opportunity to experience the intrigue, espionage, and combato the megacorporations struggle or supremacy; a war ought inshadows. Te megacorporations will use any weapon, any tactic,

any person they think might give them an edge.Damage Controlis an adaptable adventure, one gamemasters

can easily adjust to suit the skills o their team, rom novice toseasoned pro. It centers on Saeder-Krupp, which under theleadership o dragon Lowyr has become the largest o themegacorporations. he leader o the Shasta Shamans, a closepersonal riend o the great dragon Hestaby, has been assassinated.Public opinion links the killing to Lowyr, ostensibly as a responseto Hestaby breaking with dragon tradition and law in her addressto the United Nations. On July 30, 2073, Hasterby struck againstLowyr, possibly in retaliation or the murder or perhaps or herown private reasons, by destroying Saeder-Krupps Middle EastDivisions headquarters. Saeder-Krupp is now in damage control,

trying to restore its operations in the Middle East, end ocompetitors, and restore the confidence o clients. Complicatingtheir efforts are rumors o a possible dragon civil war and the earanyone associated with Lowyr may become collateral damage.

Players should stop reading now. Te rest oDamage Controlis or gamemasters only. It lays out the plots, characters, and secretsthe gamemaster will use in creating the groups adventure. Readingbeyond this point could spoil a players experience and diminishenjoyment o the adventure.

While manyound the circumstantial evidence convincing, an equal numbersuspected the incriminating data had been manuactured toembroil Lowyr in conflict and divert attention rom the real killer. And a ew suspected both perceptions were accurate, that Lowyrhad orchestrated both the killing and the dissemination o skeweddata to convince other dragons he was being ramed.

In the week ollowing the assassination it became evidentHestaby was convinced o Lowyrs duplicity in the death othe Shasta Shaman. Assets o Saeder-Kruppproduction anddistribution centers or subsidiaries Fatima Petrochemicals,

Heavy Metal, Iraq Oil, Krupp Munitions, and Maser IndustrialElectronicswere all sabotaged or attacked by what appearedto be Hestabys orces. Any doubt she sanctioned these actions

was silenced when she appeared in Dubai and demolished theSaeder-Krupp Middle East headquarters. (ypical o her care ormetahumans, Hestaby used her spirits to evacuate the complexbeore leveling the buildings.) Rumors o a dragon civil war wererampant, and Saeder-Krupps evident inability to anticipateor prevent the attacks made the megacorp appear vulnerable.Perceiving an opportunity, other corporations began testingSaeder-Krupps deenses and resolve.

    BACKGROUND

On July 23, 2073, the great dragon Hestaby gave a speechbeore the United Nations. In her speech, Hestaby took astep in her speech appalled many parties. Hestaby broke

with dragon tradition and exposed the rage that was growingamongst the dragons ollowing the execution o Dzitbalchnby the nation o Aztlan. She expressed a desire to maintainand build strong relations with metahumans, instead o seeinga conlict arise bet ween the two civilizations. She supportedthe United Nations in its eorts to indict ellow great dragonSirrurg on war crimes. She gave metahumanity intelligenceon what Sirrurgs next target would be (although that hasnot come to pass). Many o Hestabys own kind elt betrayedby what she did; they accused her o placing her interest inmetahumanity above the good o dragonkind. empers lared.Suspicions and accusations spread like an inection, weakeningthe tenuous bonds that held the peace together. Or at least keptthe violence orderly.

    UrgentMessage....... GAMEMASTERING THE ADVENTURE

Damage Control is an adventure designed forShadowrun, Twentieth Anniversary Edition, and is the firstin the Boardroom Backstabs series of adventures. Listedbelow are suggestions that will help make the adventurerun more smoothly.

Step One: Read the AdventureRead through the adventure before you introduce it to

your group. Being familiar with the entire story lets you seehow each part leads to the next. Knowing whats coming

down the line helps you adapt when your players (inevita-bly) come up with something not in the adventure.

Step Two: Assess the AdventureRarely does a gamemaster run an adventure exactly the

way its written. Some may want to make it more challeng-ing for their players; others may for specialized teams (suchas all mages); others may switch out some of the NPCs forcharacters the players are familiar with in their games tocreate a more unified universe for their runs. You know yourplayers. Assessing the adventure lets you customize the

adventure to make it more enjoyable to them and to fit yourown gamemastering style.

Step Three: Know the CharactersYou should have complete information on each of the

player character prior to running the adventure, so you canassess their individual (and group) skills, contacts, andabilities. If a scene calls for them to fly a plane through theRockies, and none of them have a Pilot Aircraft skill, youmay need to tweak the scene so theyll still have a chance atsuccess. If a character is sidelined for parts of the story dueto lack of abilities or skills, the gamemaster should consideradding scenes that play to the characters strengths.

Step Four: Take NotesWritten notes keep things organized. Notes to remind

you when to distribute a handout or of details you shouldemphasize make it easier to present the adventuresmoothly and effectively. Just as important is taking notesduring the adventurethings the players do and say, thechoices they make. This is useful in awarding Karma andhandling contacts at the conclusion of the adventure.

Perhaps more importantly, as you play through a series ofadventures, the choices made in one game will affect theplayers optionsand the consequences they facein thenext. No doubt players will make choices they regret andrunning in the shadows means theres a good chance thosebad decisions will come back to haunt them later.

Step Five: Dont Let the Dice Run the GameDice rolls are used to determine the outcomes of

events in a roleplaying game. However, sometimes thedice fall in such a way that they interfere with the story. As gamemaster, you have the authorityand sometimesthe responsibilityto tweak the dice to enhance the story.

As a rule of thumb, a gamemaster shouldnt fudge the dierolls to hurt player characters, but occasionally might tweakthe roll to help them out (softening the roll from deathto serious injury for example) or to help the story recoverfrom a catastrophic run of luck and continue the adventure.

Step Six: Dont PanicYou will make mistakes. Everyonemakes mistakes. You

may forget a rule, misread a scene, or forget an importantclue. Dont worry. The reason youre there is to have fun,and fun is far more important than a flawless performance. When you or the players make a mistake, do your best tostraighten things out and keep moving forward.

Te real purpose o this secondobjective is to leverage an in-person meeting with a representativeo the Draconic Inormation Virtual Exchange known online as

Te Impartial Observer. Saeder-Krupp wants to purchase anyinormation the Impartial Observer may have on Adens potentialalliance with Hestaby.

In the end, Saeder-Krupp will have taken significant stepsto protect its interests and rebuild its assets in the Middle East, securing is dominance o the region.

SCENE 1: MR. BRACKHAUS,IT IS A PLEASURE TO MEET YOU

Tis is a recruitment posting. Te Johnson will be talking toseveral runner teams. Itll be like a job interview. Its up to you and

your crew to sell him on the idea youre the best team or the job.

    PLOT SYNOPSIS

Hans Brackhaus hires the runner team to travel to Dubai,in the Arabian Caliphate, where they will be part o Saeder-Krupps efforts to recover rom the great dragon Hestabys attack.o reestablish normal operations throughout the Middle EastSaeder-Krupp must not only repair damage but demonstrate toits clients that the megacorp is stable and prove any rivals that S-K

is too ormidable to challenge. Integral to these is detecting andthwarting corporate espionage, protecting potentially vulnerableassets, and derailing Ares and NeoNEs aggressive attempts totakeover clients and market share while Saeder-Krupp is ocusedon rebuilding. Te runners need to do the legwork and establishtheir own connections in Dubai to erret out the megacorporationscovert activities. hey will discover each megacorp is using asupposedly minor subsidiary as a ront or their assaults on Saeder-Krupp; Ares is using the Golden Fleece Shipping Company andNeoNEs cover is a well-respected jewelry company in the GoldSouk, Dubais gold and jewelry trading district.

I, to use great dragon Lowyrs analogy, Ares and NeoNEare sharks on the scent o blood, schools o piranha are also

circling. AA and A corporations are reaching out through localfixers, contacting clients who may be nervous about dealing with amajor target in a great dragon conflict. Te destruction o Saeder-Krupps regional headquarters is a convincing argument or therisk o becoming collateral damage. Te runners will search outthe names o the companies and/or individuals who are trying to

poach S-K clients or Brackhaus. From that list Brackhaus singlesout Native Lands Industriesa small but robust company thatcompetes with more than one Saeder-Krupp subsidiaryanddirects the runners to make an example o it. He wants thecompany and its president destroyed in such a way that anyoneelse contemplating taking advantage o Saeder-Krupps apparent

    vulnerability will abandon their ambitions.

In studying the intelligence on Ares and NeoNE gatheredby the runners, Saeder-Krupp analysts determine that Ares isnegotiating with one o S-Ks biggest clients in the Middle East:Israel. Saeder-Krupp does approximately 750 million nuyen ofbusiness with Israel annually; to lose such a large client at thiscritical time may cause other clients to rethink their contracts.here could be a panic, triggering an exodus Saeder-Kruppwont be able to stop. Brackhaus instructs the runners to disruptthe crucial meeting between Ares and the Israeli diplomat(Mechior Bassani). Teir objective is to make Ares look weak andincompetentpermanently scuttling any chance o luring Israelaway rom Saeder-Krupp.

Te final objective in this adventure appears to be ocused

on the political upheaval o the Middle East. Brackhaus wantsthe runners to capture two terrorists, leaders o a Lebanesedissident group that uses Dubai as a sae haven. Brackhaus tellsthe runners the two Lebanese have coordinated attacks targetingSaeder-Krupps efforts to rebuild their headquarters. en people, six o them civilians, have died in these attacks. Brackhaus tells therunners S-K is not sure why the Lebanese are attacking them, soits important the team brings them back alive and able to answerquestions; he assures them the terrorists will be turned over to

proper civil authorities or trial once S-K has learned their motives. What Brackhaus does not tell them is S-K intelligence is almost

At thebottom o the stairs is a short hall, hardly more than a vestibule.Facing you is the doorman on the streets big brother and a doorthat doesnt pretend its not massive; theres a room or checking

weapons to your right. You see a sophisticated MAD positionedto keep people honest and suspect theres a lot o hardware you

wont see without a careul search ready and able to take care oanyone who isnt.

Once the Runners pass through security, read the following:

Fenris Nacht is designed to resemble a wilderness huntinglodge built o stone. he heads o every dangerous gameimaginable are mounted as trophies high on the walls. Tere is acircular bar in the center o the room and several tablesnone tooclose togetherwhile the walls are punctuated alcoves resemblinggrottos, each with a private booth. You realize there are manymore guests than youd expected, but the layout and architectureo the club keeps it rom seeming crowded. Te music is loud

enough to make eavesdropping difficult and youre certain thereare other, less obvious measures in place to protect the privacy oFenris Nachts patrons. Your magical teammates notiy you thatthere are a significant number o Awakened here: shamans who allseem to ollow predatory totems: lions, wolves, sharks, eagles, andthe like. Tere are also shapeshifers, changelings with talons andangs, ghouls, vampires, and even ree spirits relaxing and doingbusiness in the underground club.

    When you check in with the bartender, he tells you: Tereare three groups ahead o you. Mr. Brackhaus is pretty thorough;he takes his time with each meeting. Have a seat and drink up;

youre going to be waiting a while.

HOOKSIn choosing Fenris Nacht as a meet point, this Mr. Johnson

is acknowledging the predatory nature o the great dragonhe representsand maybe signaling the job will be equally

predatory. urning down someone as connected and powerul asHans Brackhaus (i the Johnson really is Hans Brackhaus) may bedetrimental to the teams uture in the shadows. However, doinggood work or Saeder-Krupp could do them even more good.Stress to the players that it might be wise to do this one job tosecure their place in the good graces o Saeder-Kruppnot tomention Lowyr.

I the player characters are still reluctant to work orSaeder-Krupp, have Hans Brackhaus suggest that in additionto the agreed-upon payment, any past transgressions againstSaeder-Krupp will be orgiven provided their perormance isacceptable and they achieve the required objectives. For some

players, depending on their past, this may be too good o an offerto pass up. In game terms, upon the completion o the mission, any notoriety gained rom Saeder-Krupp should be eliminatedrom the characters sheets.

BEHIND THE SCENESWhen the players arrive at Fenris Nacht, the cover charge

should be determined by the gamemaster. Te players should have

Great. Tis keeps getting better and better.Make the arrangements.Good. Your fixer sounds relieved, like hed expected you

to go o. Posting says to meet at Fenris Nacht at 1800 sharp.Terell be a password; Ill get it to you tomorrow.

You mean later today.Remember its a recruitment. Its a good bet you wont meet

with the Johnson right away, hell be interviewing his way through

other teams, too. You know what they say, patience is a virtue. Justlet the bartender know you are there, then wait until youre called. And remember to play nice with others. Te joints real strict onthat rule.

When the player charactershead to Fenris Nacht, read the following:

On your way to meet a Saeder-Krupp Johnson who identifieshimsel as Hans Brackhaus, you would expect the sky to be filled

with dark clouds and lightning. Lots o lightning. You know; togive it that oreshadowing they use in simsense movies. But no,its one o those rare days in Seattle with a clear sky and brightsunshine; driving down Highway 5 into Tacoma, the summer

evening is picture perect. here is some construction on thehighway, but there are no wrecks or vehicles shot to pieces litteringthe shoulder. Its a nice change o pace. Even the smog rom themetroplex looks good in the sunset. For a minute you think maybeall this is a good omen. A sign your upcoming job is going to behassle ree and pay top nuyen? Nah, you tell yoursel. Youre neverthat lucky.

GridGuide directs you to a run-down residentialneighborhood; not the kind o place youd expect to ind anunderground club with Fenris Nachts reputation. Which maybe why its here. You table your doubts and park in a pay lot aew blocks rom the clubs supposed coordinates. You noticethere seems to be more vehicles in the lot than this rusted scrap o

suburbia would warrant. As you approach the single-story shopthat the streets say is the entrance to the club; a man dressed asa squatter steps rom the shadows and casually plants himselbetween you and the door. From the way he moves and stands youknow hes no squatter; youd be willing to bet his tattered costumecovers orm-fitting body armor. Close up the mans disguise iseven less effective; hes massive and muscular and ocused. Tetattoos on his arm suggest he was once militaryyoud be willingto bet special orces. But whatever he used to be, right now hesnow a proessional doorman; a doorman who looks capable odealing with the predators rumored to requent Fenris Nacht. Hesays nothing, his ace expressionless but alert; the next move is

I player charactersattempt to hack the commlink, they discover it is a military-gradeSaeder-Krupp device (Response 7, Signal 6, Firewall 7, System 7).Te waiting runner teams are being observed by a Saeder-Krupp

agent who is evidently sending inormation about what he seesto Brackhaus. No doubt he is evaluating how well the runnerscomport themselves in an unamiliar environment, noting theirlevel o situational awareness, patience, and ability to blend in. Itsalso likely he is making inquiries into each runners backgroundsearching out street reps warrants, bounties, or known associations

with rival megacorporations.Te runners check out each o the three teams that go in

proessional manner, and the very latest in high-rated cyberwareand commlinks (no doubt transmitting ake SINs). Te second

team actually ormed up like a military squad on parade or theirmarch to meet Brackhaus. Te third team does things differently.Only two memberstheir ace and a magic userollow theserver across the room and down the dark hallway; neither has

Suitable Perception Test modiers include: perceiver isdistracted (2) and interering sights and sounds (2). Te rivalshadowrunners the players recognize are competent proessionals

beyond simply identiying rivals, have them make a secondPerception (5) Test. Suitable Perception test modiers for this testinclude: perceiver is distracted (2), object is not in immediate

vicinity (the target is across the room, in a darkened booth) ( 2)

He nods to thecharacter, and make a note in an ARO only he can see.

Once theyve noticed the gentleman in the booth, therunners should also observe that when one o the teams goes intothe back room to meet Hans Brackhaus, he sends a text messageto the server, who ollows them. Did the ace greet the Saeder-Krupp Johnson in German?(+1 dice pool modifier i he or she did; +2 i the Germanwas done well)

Much will depend on how the runners conduct themselvesduring the meet with Brackhaus. I they are proessional, exerciseproper discretion, demonstrate situational awareness, and showstrategic sense, Brackhaus is orthcoming with inormation. Howmuch specific inormation he provides is directly proportional tohow much the team impresses him.

I Brackhaus likes what he sees, he tells them they will besupporting Saeder-Krupps damage control and rebuilding

programs in Duba i ollowing Hestaby s unwarranted attack .Saeder-Krupp needs to reestablish its reputation as much as itneeds to rebuild inrastructureboth their clients and theirenemies need see that it would take more than great dragon

penetrating rival corporations security, extractions, and taking outhostile agencies. Tere are rumors Ares and NeoNE have alreadylaunched aggressive campaigns to undercut S-Ks operations; therunners will need to acquire accurate and detailed inormation ontheir efforts, including who their operatives are and which clientsare open to breaking their S-K contracts. Brackhaus also tells themthat Ares and NeoNE are not the only targetslocal AA andA corporations see Saeder-Krupps apparent vulnerability as anopportunity to expand their operations and acquire assets. Tesecorporations will be dealt with afer Ares and NeoNE, but theywillbe dealt with. Brackhaus flashes a predatory smile when hesays this, giving the runners the impression some o the smallercorporations wont survive.

I the runners were oblivious to the issue o discretionand privacy, Hans Brackhaus does not provide specifics o themission, telling them additional inormation will be provided

when they arrive in Dubai. He may describe the first objectiveas intelligence gathering, but he does not reveal the nature othe intelligence nor what megacorporations may be involved.Te shadowrunners should be lef with the distinct impression

At 2100 hours, three hours afer theyd been instructed toarrive, the team is summoned to meet Mr. Johnson. Te hallwaylooks like a tunnel bored into solid rock. Tey pass a room onthe right with its door ajar; the door is heavily reinorced andthe room looks like a cave. Framing a doorway at the end o thehall is a cyberware scanner archway (Rating 6). One is Awakened, the otherhighly cybered, and both wear impressive body armor with Saeder-Krupps logo prominently displayed. I the player characters choseto emulate the previous team and send in only members with nocyberware and commlinks off, Brackhaus appears pleased. I therunners have cyberware and active commlinks, Brackhaus appearsneutral. I only the ace (and perhaps another character) came,Brackhaus sends the server to retrieve the others.

Hans Brackhaus asks the player characters the ollowingquestions prior to divulging any inormation about the job. Eachquestion provides a modifier to the teams aces Negotiation estbased on the answer:

Tey need to move as quickly as possible;the earliest flight they can arrange through their contacts willbe 0600 hours on August 1 stless than ive hours ater theirconversation with Brackhaus. Adequate preparation may beproblematic. I Brackhaus had been impressed with the teamssecurity savvy at first meeting and explained the first objectivein detail, the players should understand he expects them to be

sel-sufficient and begin their investigation as soon as possible. IBrackhaus was not impressed and did not divulge details o thefirst objective, the runners will not have the inormation they needto begin until theyre contacted in Dubai.

PUSHING THE ENVELOPESometimes the secret to a successul job interview is

eliminating the competition. While the player characters are in the bar, waiting to be

called, the team scheduled afer them identifies their ace andbribes a bartender to spike his or her drink. Tis drug is a designer

variant o the street drugs zen and bliss. Te runners should makean Opposed Perception + Intuition est versus the bartenders

Palming + Agility est to determine whether they see him spikethe drink. I the runners do not see the drink being spiked, the aceshould roll his or her own Perception (5) Test (Taste) to detectthe drug. Because there is a masking agent in the drug, apply theinterering taste modifier (2) to the test. I the ace detects thedrug in the first swallow, he or she is only partially dosed; reduceIntuition by 2 and Charisma by 2 i the character ails to resistthe effects o the drug. I the ace does not detect the drug, he orshe gets the ull dose; reduce Intuition by 4 (or to minimum o1) and Charisma by 4 (or to minimum o 1) i the ace ails toresist the drug. Te power o the drug is 10 and the character canonly resist with Body, plus any appropriate augmentations such astoxin extractor (p. 346, SR4A). e Duration of the drug is 30 x

1D6 minutes. One o the first two teams has identified the runners as theirmain competition and has set up an ambush in the blocks betweenFenris Nacht and their vehicle. Te ambushers have had a coupleo hours to prepare their attack, which can involve anything rommagic to snipers. Te gamemaster should balance this encounterto give the runners a reasonable chance to survive.

DEBUGGINGI its likely the runners in a particular group will have

difficulty impressing Brackhaus, the gamemaster should tailorthe questions to reflect their strengths. For example: I discreetintelligence gathering is something they do well, include anintelligence-gathering question. Also consider increasing positivedice pool modifiers based on their strengths or reducing negativemodifiers or experience or attributes they lack. I doing wetworkmay be a deal breaker or your players, the gamemaster can leavethat question out o the interview. Te gamemaster can also switchout the wetwork scene or one o the suggested campaigns in the

Ideas to urn Damage Controlinto an Extended Campaign in theMiddle Easttext box (or create an original scene).

Te Hans Brackhaus presented in this adventure is the realHans Brackhaus. Should Brackhaus stats be too much or theplayer characters, the gamemaster can replace him with another

Brackhaus opinion o them has soured in the course o themeeting and that he intends to be very careul with what hereveals to them. He may say something like: hese are theconditions. ake it or leave it. In this instance, the playercharacters cannot negotiate or more details until the teamreaches Dubai. However, rom context the shadowrunners maystrongly suspect the job has something to do with Hestabysattack on Saeder-Krupps Middle East division headquarters.

Once Brackhaus has given the runners all the inormationhe eels he can about the mission, it comes down to negotiations.Add up all the dice pool modiiers. he dice pool modiier(whether positive or negative) is applied to the ace charactersNegotiation + Charisma est or making the pitch to the Johnsonto hire the runner team (do not reveal the results o the test tothe players). Brackhaus tells the runners he has one more team tointerview and will contact them in the next ew hours i they gotthe job. Brackhaus confirms the fixers inormation about payment(ten thousand nuyen per runner or successully achieving the firstobjective; five thousand per runner or each subsequent objective)

was approximate and that he will discuss exact terms when andi they are selected. Brackhaus tells them he realizes preparing

or a mission in another country on short notice can be costly.I they are hired he provides a certified credstick or seventy-fivethousand nuyen to cover expenses. I the runners win Brackhausavor and successully execute all tasks, Brackhaus may allow themto keep the credstick and any money they didnt use or expenses.

When Hans Brackhaus contacts the runners again at 0100hours, his proposal is dictated by the results o the Negotiations est: I the teams ace got net successes on the Negotiations

est: he player characters got the job, and or each netsuccess, Hans Brackhaus raises the pay by 1,000 nuyen (or amaximum o an additional 10,000 nuyen or each objective, plus add 10,000 nuyen to their expense und).

I the Negotiations est resulted in no net successes or

either the player characters or Brackhaus: he runnersgot the job; Brackhaus sees no need to change the originalterms o the offer.

I Brackhaus got net successes on his Negotiations est: Teruners got the job, but at lower pay. For every net successabove the player characters, subtract 250 nuyen from theoer (to maximum reduction of 2,500 nuyen).

I the teams ace glitched the Negotiation est: Brackhaus isunconvinced they are the team or the job. However, he g ivesthem one more chance to try to convince him. Make a secondNegotiation + Charisma Opposed est (with no dice poolmodifiers). I the ace gets at least 1 net success, he is able to

win over Brackhaus, but payment is reduced to 7,500 nuyenfor the rst objective and 2,500 for subsequent objectives. He holds out the aint hope o bonuses or exceptional per-ormance. Tey will have to provide a detailed accounting ohow they used the 72,500 certied credstick for expenses andreturn the credstick with any unused balance. I Brackhausdiscovers the runners overcharged or otherwise tamperedwith the expense account, they take a hit to their notoriety(see theAermathsection or more details).

Te runners have to make their own arrangements or gettingto Dubai. Brackhaus will be the only contact they know in the

    UrgentMessage....... NOT BASED IN SEATTLE?

If your campaign is not based in Seattle, theres noreason to contrive a way for your team to get there in order

to run Damage Control. There are appropriate meeting spotsin every Shadowrun city. You know your city best, but hereare a few suggestions:

BogotSpirits is a new runner hang out in Bogot. Located in

the Zona Sur neighborhood of Francisco Pizarro, it has beenopen about three months. Although Zona Sur is still a dan-

gerous neighborhood, its infrastructure is being rebuilt bySaeder-Kruppelectricity, communications, and water arereliable. Significantly, Zona Sur is one of the few areas inBogot not under the control of Aztlan or Aztechnology,an important consideration to patriotic Colombians. It hasalso become a refuge for Amazonian soldiers weary of thefighting. All of which means the residents are vigilant intheir defense of Zona Sur and protect it violently when nec-essary. Saeder-Krupp is rumored to be invested in Spirits.Local lore asserts the megacorporation uses shadowrunnersto protect Spirits and eliminate any Aztlan spies who try

to infiltrate the establishment or surveil its patrons. Spiritsoffers alcoholic beverages and real food to suit a variety oftastes in a modern, four-story building with conveniencessuch as air-conditioning that arent common in most ofBogot. The lower two floors caters to patrons of all descrip-tions, the third floor has enhanced privacy systems and isoriented towards business clientele; it is here Mr. Johnsonsand runners do business. The fourth floor is reserved forVIPs. For all its posh accouterments, theres ample evidenceSpirits is in a warzone. All direct approaches are barricaded, the windows are bulletproof and barred, and the roof is

strung with razor wire. Patrons are well protected, buttheyre equally well contained.

DenverThe Tower of Babel is an appropriate meet space for a

Johnson representing a great dragon who was alive whenthe original tower of Babel was built. Denvers Towerof Babel is in the UCAS part of the Hub. It is frequentedby many of Denvers movers and shakers: civic leaders,

opinion shapers, and the social eliteas well as membersof less public, but equally influential, factions such as theCasquilho crime family. The Tower is renowned for its ambi-ance: tall, etched glass windows, vibrant AR displays, stellarlive entertainment, and the element of mysterythereare never-confirmed rumors of secret floors housing CASspies and hidden assets of any number of covert entities.Meeting Brackhaus in Denver presents a potential compli-cation: Publicly Ghostwalker and Lofwyr are on betterorat least neutralterms, but there can be little doubtGhostwalker will have his watcher spirits closely observeany of Lofwyrs agents in his domain. Feel free to build anencounter between the player characters and Ghostwalkers

watchers. Tower of Babel is described on p. 31, Spy Games.

ManhattanCastle Clinton is located in Battery City. It was once

known as West Battery, originally designed to defend NewYork from British forces. It is considered a historical monu-ment that at one time had been an aquarium, emigranthousing depot, opera house and garden. It is currently apublic building with no one specific use. Beneath CastleClinton are abandoned tunnels frequently used by smug-glers (p. 23, The Rotten Apple: Manhattane-book).

SCAN THISWith the empl oyment arrangements settled, it is the

shadowrunners responsibility to arrange transportation orthemselves and their gear to Dubai. Upon arrival in the city, the shadowrunners should arrange or accommodations orthemselves and begin the job. (I Brackhaus trusted them enoughto tell them in Seattle, they already know the mission. I they donot know, they must meet a local Johnson who will give themthe details.) Teir first objective is to gather intelligence on Aresand NeoNE activities Dubai ollowing Hestabys destructiono Saeder-Krupps headquarters. Priority is given the actions andplans o their respective company men, and gathered inormationshould answer two broad questions: Which Saeder-Krupp clientsdo Ares and NeoNE believe are open to deecting; who arethey actively targeting? Which Saeder-Krupp clients are seriouslyconsidering breaking their contracts with Saeder-Krupp andsigning with either Ares or NeoNE? Brackhaus stresses thatsubtlety is paramount. I either Ares or NeoNE suspect Saeder-Krupp is gathering inormation, they alter their plans, renderingthe inormation useless. he runner team also knows this isonly the first hal o the job; theyll learn the second part afersuccessully completing the first.

    BEHIND THE SCENES

AresSince the player characters are new to Dubai, they know

very little about the shadows o the city. Teir usual contacts willnot be able to help them directly. Dubai is a major smugglinghub and many pirates operate in the Persian Gul/Straits oHormuz/Indian Ocean region. I the runners have a smuggleror pirate contact, or i any o their contacts have connectionsto international ences, they will quickly be directed to the

He gives them directions to aship used to smuggle exotic botanicals docked at a Dubai cargoterminal; the ship is secure, which most meeting spaces in Dubaicant promise. Te meeting is set or midnight. Ouranalysts have determined we have approximately orty-eight hoursin which to restore our clients confidence in Saeder-Krupp, anylonger and there is a risk o irreparable damage to our client basein Dubai. comings and goings o known Ares assets and a high volume otrade with companies reputed to be Ares ronts became apparent.Any Ares action against Saeder-Krupp would be coordinatedthrough Golden Fleece. Unortunately, because 2XL knew whatGolden Fleece was, he avoided any contact with them. He hasno inormation on security at the companys compound or theinterior layouts o the buildings.

At the Golden Fleece Shipping Company, the runners will

find: Tree warehouses on the water, a whar at which five smalland medium reighters are being unloaded, a cargo containerstorage area behind the warehouses, a mosque, and a our-storyoffice building situated near the ront security gate. Te flow ovehicles delivering or picking up cargo is steady and there aredozens o security cameras covering the grounds. In additionto security cameras, there are our roving patrols o six guards

wearing the uniorm o a Dubai security company. Tey are inact shadowrunners, much better equipped than the local securityorces. Tere is a shif change every eight hours and a total otwelve shadowrunner teams on rotating guard duty.

Te business node or the company is located in the our-story business oice and extensive use o Wi-Fi inhibiting

materials to prevent wireless access. o hack the business nodefor the company (Device Rating 6), the runners will have tobreak into the office building or find a way to bypass the physicalblockers and get a signal inside the building. I they are successul, they find only what appears to be legitimate maniests, shippingschedules, employee files, maintenance records, and other filesconsistent with operating a normal shipping company. Tere isno mention o Ares and nothing indicating covert activities.

he player characters can also discover only hal o thesecurity cameras are subscribed to the business office node. Teother cameras are hardwired to another node somewhere else onthe property. Further investigation can reveal that none o thesecurity cameras subscribed to the node cover warehouse two. I

the player characters kept the business office under surveillanceprior to breaking in, they might have noticed that periodically, couriers rom various delivery companies dropped o smallpackages at warehouse two. Te runners may notice that nothingoffloaded rom the ships was taken to warehouse two and theroutes ollowed by the security patrols are designed to keep oneteam near warehouse two at all times.

Te runners need to get into the second warehouse. Witha Perception + Intuition (5) Test, the player characters noticethat the interior dimensions are significantly smaller than theoutside. Te covert operations office is hidden behind a alse walland securely Wi-Fi shielded. Access is through a concealed doorthat requires an RFID badge (worn my Ares agents posing as

dock workers). Four to six Ares agents in the office are analyzinginormation dropped off by couriers, encrypting and decryptinginormation packets, and generally routing and managing all theinormation related to Ares intense effort to lure away a hugeblock o Saeder-Krupp clients. he covert oices node has aDevice Rating of 7; it possesses high-level encryption (Rating6). Files on this node reveal Ares has approached two hundredSaeder-Krupp clients; one hundred remained with Saeder-Krupp, thirty-eight are willing to sign with Ares, and sixty-twoare considering and could go either way. (One o those accounts

will play a crucial role in scene 5.) Ares has nine headhunters on

need to make an opposed Infiltration + Agility est against theMudaweens Perception + Intuition est. Te players should berequired to make two to our tests to slip by motion sensors andpatrolling drones to reach the ship undetected. I the playersattempt to get to the ship via water and avoid security on the

whars, they will need to avoid three harbor deense patrol boats.Approaching the ship itsel is risky. Dubai is a pirates haven andsecurity aboard a ship carrying high-profit contraband is likely tobe on high alert. Even knowing about the 2XLs midnight meeting, the chances are good the ships deenders reaction to any surprise

would be shooting first and asking questions later.Te transaction will be disguised as the sale o two cases o

exotic ruit; data will never be mentioned. Te asking price is20,000 nuyen. Te runners must make an Opposed Negotiation+ Charisma est to negotiate a better deal. Each net successwill lower the price by 500 nuyen, to a minimum price of

15,000 nuyen. e crates come with forged RFID tags and ARpaperwork certiying they have been inspected and approved bycustoms (Rating 4 orgeries). Concealed inside one o the cratesis an optical chip with data detailing the Golden Fleece ShippingCompany, based in Dubai. Tis shipping company has been aront or Ares regional spy network in Dubai or close to thirty

years. Te shadows first noticed Golden Fleece remained constantthroughout economic cycles, neither cutting back nor expanding

when similar companies had adjust to changing times . hispiqued curiosity, which led to digging and the eventual discoveryo the companys hidden side. Once the shadows were watching,

In addition to the inormation they were sent or, therunners can ind maniests or weapons, military equipment, pharmaceuticals and other supplies being smuggled into thearea by Ares. Tere will also be inormation on possible runs tosabotage Saeder-Krupp and its subsidiaries; these are still in the

planning/consideration stage. It should take the player characters anywhere from 18to 30 hours to do their legwork, meet 2XL, study the GoldenFleece shipping company, and get into the restricted areas o thecompany or the paydata. Once the runners have gathered thisinormation, they should contact Brackhaus and turn the paydataover to him or to his representative. I Brackhaus is not available,he has a emale agent who goes by Awrah receive the inormationfor him (p. 160, Corporate Guide).

NeoNETBecause NeoNE has no official presence in Dubai, their

covert operations center is much smaller and more difficult to

ind than Ares. he player characters contacts can give themtwo leads: One is a JackPointer with street name o Am-mutafixer and Johnson based in Cairo. Te inormation she provides isalways accurate and very costly. Working rom Cairo, it may takeher some time to track down NeoNEs operations in Dubai. Tesecond lead is a field operative with the independent espionageorganization Aegis Cognito. She is a Dubai native known only bythe street name Asriyah.

I the runners contact Am-mut, they must conduct thebusiness via commlink to Cairo. hough she is multilingual,Am-mut only talks or responds to Arabicshe does this to putnegotiators who are not fluent in Arabic at a disadvantage andto lure the unwary into having revealing side conversations in

languages they think she doesnt understand. She will not quotea price beore she knows what she has to do and pay to find theneeded inormation, but warns them it will be high; they will bepaying or both the inormation and her services. She states thatwhat she finds will be accurate and complete, but that i she findsnothing they will still owe her or her time and effort. It will takeAm-mut six hours to get the inormation the runners need. Teprice is 25,000 nuyen (non-negotiable).

I the player characters contact Asriyah, she initially agreesto meet them at the Emerald Orchid, a small restaurant in acommunity called Warsan. She is testing the runners. Warsan ispopulated by radical undamentalists and the Emerald Orchid agathering spot or remnants o the New Islamic Jihad and othermilitant radical groups. I the players go there without questioningthe logic or reason, Asriyah does not show up. Asriyah choosesto work only with shadowrunners who are intelligent and careulenough to have researched their surroundings; she respects those

who question the choices made by others and put orth well-thought-out alternatives. I the runner team goes to the EmeraldOrchid, there is a reasonable chance they will die; many i not all o

Warsans residents attack the oreigners on sight. (Use the stats orthe New Islamic Jihad soldiers inDealing with the Smaller Fishesor all residents.) I the runners insist on a different, more logicalmeet location, Asriyah will be impressed with their knowledge

Ideas to Turn Damage Control intoan Extended Campaign in the Middle East

If the players and the gamemaster would like to expandthe Dubai mission into an extended campaign covering weeksor months, here are a few campaign ideas and adventurehooks on which you might build:

Aegis Cognito agents have secured four functionalnodes from the wreckage of the Saeder-Krupp DivisionHeadquarters. The player characters may be hired to findand switch those nodes for node shells packed with highexplosives and wired to kill everyone in ten meters of anyattempt to access its files.

Hans Brackhaus wants the shadowrunners to hunt downthe shadowrun teams Ares has hired to sabotage S-Ksinfrastructure and prevent the sabotage, take the otherteams out, or both.

Hans Brackhaus wants the shadowrunners to extract theNeoNET company men that are operating covertly in Dubai(assassinating them if extraction proves impossible).

Five mid-level but key S-K employees have gone missing inthe last 72 hours. S-K intelligence has discovered NeoNETis extracting S-K operations personnel who have accessto sensitive data/programs. Brackhaus tasks the runnerswith getting the employees back safely and shutting downNeoNETs extraction team.

Saeder-Krupp has posted large bounties for the livecapture of metahumans suspected of being Hestabysagents working to undermine S-K assets in the MiddleEast. The shadowrunners should feel free to pursue thesebounties.

Shortly after the S-K mission concludes there is anInternational Defense Exhibit in Dubai. The runners can be

hired by other Johnsons to acquire weapons prototypes ondisplay (or the people who developed them).

Dubai is a trading center for metahuman trafficking.Slavers operating in the Indian Ocean region, who concealtheir main primary business behind the more respectablefaade of smuggling, meet buyers and resellers from allmajor markets in the darkest depths of Dubais shadows.Families around the world have posted rewards for anyonewho finds and returns their loved ones, no questionsasked. A fixer representing a hard-hit community offeringmultiple rewards could approach the runners with a pos-sible rescue mission.

Pirates have captured a vessel in the Indian Ocean. The

corporation that owns the vessel wants their shipand itscargoback before their loss becomes common knowledge. They will pay top nuyen to see that happen, and top nuyenfor a runner team is about half the ransom the pirates aredemanding. This could take the player characters to thepirate island of Madagascar for a pirate-themed adventure.

Dubai has many features and resources that make it afavorite haven among individuals hiding from Interpol andother law enforcement agencies. Many opportunities forthe runners to collect bounties. (For a list of fugitives cur-rently wanted by Interpol refer to Vice, p. 160.)

three hidden security cameras inside the ront o the store. Tereare no security cameras or the back room. Tese cameras arelinked to the business node (Device Rating 4).

Tere is also a floor vault or the stores stock o jewels andjewelry. Te runners may be tempted to crack the vault and takethe jewelry to make the break in look like a robbery. Plus, it wouldbe a nice bonus. Te vault is secured with a completely mechanicaltumbler mechanism, so it is possible or a shadowrunner with

enhanced hearing to open the lock. Te vault holds anywherefrom 150,000 to 500,000 nuyen worth of loose gems, jewelry, andprecious metal. ere is an additional 60,000 to 100,000 nuyenworth o magical reagents-quality precious metals and gems. (Tegamemaster determines the value and quantity o the jewelryinside the vault, and how much the runners are able to take. Teplayers will be able to deal with a Dubai-based ence called Jackal;p. 154, Vice); they receive thirty percent o original value or whatthey sell, p. 312, SR4A.)

Te runners may consider hitting the shop during the day.Te owner would be present, and they could use his card to enterthe back room and the throngs o shoppers in the narrow streetso the Gold Souk would hamper and delay police responding to

an alarm. However, the presence o shoppers presents a high risko collateral damage to innocent civilians, and dense crowds couldhinder their escape as much as it would slow the police.

Files on the NeoNE node reveals the megacorp has ourcompany men negotiating with sixty Saeder-Krupp clients; nearlyhal their targets are also on the Ares list. Since neither Ares norNeoNE files mention the other it is evident the two do notrealize they are bidding against each other or the same clients.NeoNE has won commitments rom ten Saeder-Krupp clients.More importantly, NeoNE has determined that because Saeder-Krupp has not yet established new oices or the thousandso administrative, management, and operations employeesdisplaced by the destruction o the Middle East headquarters

these employees are vulnerable. NeoNE has identified twentymid-level administrators and eight top researchers who almostcertainly have detailed inormation on Saeder-Krupps operations, capabilities, and objectives in the region. NeoNE intends to uselocal shadowrunners to extract these twenty-eight individualsand use Dubais human trafficking industry to smuggle them toa NeoNE stronghold; there will be no direct evidence linkingNeoNE to the disappearances. Te mechanics o the plan arestill in developmentthere are ew specifics beyond the names othe targets and Dubai shadows whom NeoNE has contacted orintends to contact or the extractions.

It should take the player characters anywhere rom twelveto twenty hours to do their legwork, study the security situation, devise and execute their plan, and gather the paydata.

Te player characters should immediately turn the files theyhave acquired over to Brackhaus or one o his Awrah. I Asriyah

was involved, they should give her duplicate files and get theircollateral back.

I the runners took longer than orty-eight hours to gatherthe intelligence, Brackhaus may choose to fire the team and hirelocal shadowrunner teams or the other objectives. Te runners

will be required to return the credstick and will not be paid. Teywill also earn a point o Notoriety or ailing to complete theassignment in the time allotted.

o the city. She recommends the Midas ouch, a trendy club inDeira district (a downtown center or business and shopping)sanctioned to serve alcohol and popular with more progressivelocals and tourists alike. Te runner team may already be amiliar

with this location i they already visited the nightclub to hire theNPC hacker.

Asriyah also preers to speak in Arabic, but i the runnersare uncomortable she switches to whatever language they choose.

Asriyah knows the location o NeoNEs covert operations centerand where the runners could ind the inormation they seek. Her price is a complete and unaltered copy o all inormationon NeoNEs nodes. She asks or collateral until she receivesthis inormation (likely a blood or hair sample rom each o the

player characters, which will be returned to them intact whenthey give her the data rom the node). I the shadowrunnersagree, she provides them directions to a jewelry store in the GoldSouk called the Golden Palace o Dubai. Asriyah is an operativeo Aegis Cognito, an organization that trades and sells secrets.I the runners do not offer money or her silence, she sells whatshe knows about them and their plans to whoever offers moneyor the inormation. A recommended price on Asriyahs silence

is 10,000 nuyen. Asriyah is a Dubai native who, unlike Am-mut,has detailed inormation on the layout and security o boththe Gold Souk and the Golden Palace o Dubai, both o whichshe has known or years. She will sell this inormation to theshadowrunners or five thousand nuyen, nonnegotiable. I theydo not wish to buy this inormation she wishes them good ortunein figuring things out on their own.

Both Am-mut and Asriyah point the shadowrunners to theGolden Palace o Dubai; the owner is a local jeweler o some talentwhom NeoNE recruited, trained, and set up with a store o hisown eight years ago. Te shop specializes in odd unique piecesand repairs, which makes it a perect cover or NeoNEs modestespionage operation. Customers and small packages flow in andout in a steady stream. In act business grew to the point the ownerhad to hire two local journeyman jewelersneither o whom hasany idea theyre part o a spy rings cover. Te owner is the handleror our NeoNE field agents. Te opportunity presented bySaeder-Krupps problems is larger than the small operation wasdesigned to handle, but they adapted quickly.

Because the Gold Souk is an internationally known marketor jewels and precious metals the Mudaween and the Dubai

police patrol the market distr ict in orce. here are no lessthan three police stations in the relatively small districtoneMudaween, two Dubai policeand there are constant oot andvehicle patrols with both ground and aerial drones or support.During the summer months, the Golden Palace o Dubai closes at1930 hours, and stays closed until 0600 hours the next day.

As with the Golden Fleece, the obvious business node atGold Palace o Dubai has no inormation pertaining to the spyactivities o NeoNE. Te node they want is concealed in a backroom and powered off during non-business hours. Te door to theback room is a security door (Armor Rating 8, Structure Rating9). e walls are concrete (Armor Rating 16, Structure Rating 13).Te shadowrunners can make a Hardware + Logic est to pickthe maglock (card reader, Rating 6, with Rating 4 anti-tampercircuits). Te node inside the back room is encrypted and has aDevice Rating of 7. ere are three obvious security cameras and

(12, 1 Minute) Extended est is required to disarm the triggeringdevice. I the node is destroyed, the runner team needs to locateand extract the store owner to gain the needed inormation.

Because the Gold Souk is oten targeted by thieves andother shadowrun groups, it is possible the runners will encounteranother shadowrun group hitting a nearby store. his coulddevelop into a gunfight the runners are not prepared and escalateto a conrontation with law enorcers and/or extensive collateral

damage o the sort the runners are constrained to avoid.I the shadowrunners do not give Asriyah the inormationor choose to redact or remove files, she sells their hair and bloodsamples to Brokerage X. Brokerage X has access to undergroundmagicians who can perorm ritual spellcasting. I the runnerssurvive, Asriyah makes sure that they earn a point o notoriety intheir home city or ailing to pay their debt.

Also, though Dubai is more tolerant than most Muslimcities, open displays o magic, such as spellcasting, are still deeplyoffensive. Trowing fireballs or conjuring spirits may engenderhostile reactions rom citizens and arrest by the Mudaween.Shamanism is idolatry, seen by some as a direct assault on theprecepts o Islam. Being seen using magic can get a magician

    imprisoned, deported, or even killed.

DEBUGGINGhe player characters should have a reasonable chance

o perorming the intelligence-gathering operation withoutdetection. Te gamemaster should make any adjustments thatare appropriate or her group. he players could successullyimpersonate customers, job applicants, civil inspectors, etc., togain egress, or example. Or there could be technical issues withsecurity cameras that could create blind spots or the playercharacters to exploit.

Tis scene requires a lot o hacking. I the shadowrunnerteam does not include a hacker or technomancer, they can hirea local hacker rom the Midas ouch, an upscale runner hangoutlisted in Scene 3. e downside of this is the time the runners mustinvest in finding and hiring the hacker. Te delay might make itimpossible to complete both halves o the mission on time.

    PLACES OF INTEREST

Golden Fleece Shipping Companyhe Golden Fleece Shipping Company is registered as

an independent shipping company (AA status) and has donebusiness in Dubai since 2040. Records o the Islamic-CorporateCoordination Board document the shipping company is ownedand operated by a oreign businessman who converted to Islam in2039. e company has always been in compliance with all of theIslamic-Corporate Coordination Boards requirements, includingan on-site mosque, Arabic signage, broadcasting o all state-issuednews, and business practices that honor Islamic law and traditions.Golden Fleece has six hundred employeestwo hundred on eacho three eight-hour shifs. Te workorce is predominantly human, with a ew trolls and orks or the heavy lifing, and ninety percento Golden Fleece employees are Muslims. Physical assets includefive berths capable o servicing small to medium size reightersand three warehouses. In its thirty-plus years o operation, GoldenFleece has seen its share o financial hardships and setbacks but

SUBPLOTSBrokerage X, a shadowy finance organization that deals with

investments and returns based on the outcomes o shadowruns, has a large number o clients invested in the projection thatSaeder-Krupp will not only lose its competitive edge in the recentupheaval in the Middle East in the short term, but also projectit will also lose its competitiveness due to a protracted conflictbetween Hestaby and Lowyr and the shadow war that could erupt

between the two o them. Several o the investors o BrokerageX are betting that NeoNE will overtake Saeder-Krupp as thenumber one corporation in the world. Te potential windall romsuch a shif in megacorporate politics is staggering. And Brokerage

X will do whatever it takes to make those clients happy and makethem extremely wealthy by making these projections come true.

Since the player characters are working or Saeder-Krupp andits interests, they have by deault made themselves major targetsor Brokerage X. Brokerage X will send out shadowrunners tointerere with the player characters, to sabotage their efforts, and topotentially kill them. Tey could potentially blow the players coverwhile they infiltrate the Golden Fleece shipping company, or theymight place a call to the Mudaween or the Dubai police when they

are about to break into the jewelry store. I given the opportunity, they may try to place an explosive device under their vehicle.Brokerage X has been keeping an eye on Hans Brackhaus

ever since he traveled to Seattle. Tey sent an operative to Seattleto keep track o all known shadowrunners going into the FenrisNacht to potentially meet with Brackhaus on July 31st. BecauseBrokerage X does not know or certain which shadowrunnersHans Brackhaus hired, they have placed a reward in the shadowso Dubai or any inormation pertaining to the activities andmovements o any oreign shadowrunners matching the photostaken o the shadowrunners rom Fenris Nacht. Te reward orsuch inormation or Brokerage X is 10,000 nuyen. Tis will comeinto play inDealing with the Smaller Fishes.

On the NeoNE node, it appears as though in addition toNeoNE spy activities against Saeder-Krupp, the spy networkwas busy monitoring the activities o the Knights o Rage. I theplayer characters do any research, they find that the Knights oRage have an affi
