Mother’s Day Greetings: to all the Mothers of St. Joseph’s Parish. May you enjoy your special day and all the treats that go with this day. You are well appreciated and loved. We remember fondly our Mothers who are no longer here with us. May they enjoy eternal peace and rest with the Risen Lord. Mother’s Day Novena cards are available at the Rectory. Suggested donation is $10

MC CANN HALL UPDATE Because of your continued generosity to St Joseph’s, I am proud to report to you the successful completion of a MAJOR project that has been going on in our Church basement over the last 4 long winter months---the TOTAL rebuilding of McCann Hall. It seems that McCann Hall has been sorely neglected for the last 30 years---ever since the Parish Center was built. The walls were water damaged, the floors buckling, the stairs were trip hazards and the bathrooms were a disgrace. After 4 months, this space has been TOTALLY rebuilt. This did not just entail a quick coat of paint. This was no cosmetic fix. The walls were rebuilt, all 7 stairways were rebuilt, bathrooms were updated, 6,000 sq. feet of new floors were installed, new chairs purchased, all closets were purged, cleaned and rebuilt, a new small kitchenette installed, and the stage rebuilt. This is now a space we here at St Joe’s can be very proud of. It has already been used by our school, by Religious Education, and our regular AA meetings Once we install a beautiful statue of St Joseph, this project will be complete. Thank you again for your generosity in making this type of work possible. I pray in thanksgiving every day for all those who have been so generous to St Joseph’s both in life and in death---I know the Lord will one day reward you! Fr Peter

"743"-48-8-.47389WHY DO WE HAVE THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK?

There are times when the Church, like Jesus, has a message that cannot be put into words. Illness and the declining strength of old age are such times.

Healing was at the heart of Jesus’ ministry, and He wanted it continued by His Disciples.IN MARK’S GOSPEL WE READ:

JESUS SUMMONED THE TWELVE AND BEGAN TO SEND THEM OUT TWO BY TWO…THEY EXPELLED MANY DEMONS, ANOINTED THE SICK

WITH OIL, AND WORKED MANY CURES. (Mk 6:7-13)The Church today continues this healing ministry of Jesus in the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick. WHO MAY RECEIVE THE SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK?

Those who are seriously or chronically ill or weakened by old age

A common sense understanding of “serious” is all that is required. You do not need doctor’s lines.

Do you have a need in body, mind, or soul for Christ’s healing touch and the prayers of the Church? Then please make a special effort to come and share this celebration with us.

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick

Will be administered at a special Mass on

Saturday, June 11th

at 12:00pm

-3:-"47"“As they were stoning Stephen he called out ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he fell to his knees

and cried out in a loud voice, ‘Lord do not hold this sin against them’, and when he had said this, he

fell asleep.”… “Lifting his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying: ‘Holy Father, I pray not only for them,

but also for those who will believe in me through their word.’”

The prayer of Stephen and the prayer of Jesus offer great lessons for us. The former had great

confidence, echoing the words Jesus uttered from the cross, to turn self over to the Father. His prayer,

teaches us the gift we can always offer to others, forgiveness. How special to use it in this Jubilee

Year of Mercy.

The prayer of Jesus, perhaps directed to the apostles and disciples, is also the prayer He continues to

offer for us. Think for a moment. In these words of John’s gospel, I find Jesus praying for me, right

now, at this moment. Wow!

I ask that I can be as prayer filled and forgiving as was Stephen. I ask that the prayer of Jesus for me,

will bear fruit today.

Couples celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary anytime during 2016 are invited to attend the Annual Golden Wedding Jubilee Mass with Cardinal Dolan at the Cathedral of St Patrick, Saturday, June 25th at 1:30pm or

CANDLE OF REMEMBRANCEAn excellent way to remember a special loved one is to memorialize our Easter Candle.

The Paschal Candle is lit during every Sunday Mass from the Easter Vigil Mass through Ascension Thursday. It also burns brightly at every Baptism and at every Funeral Mass.

The Easter Candle for 2016 will burn throughout the year thanks to Pino and Katherine Kinkella in memory of Grace Kinkella
