(Matthew 1:18-24)
All persons who have reached their 14th birthday are bound by the law of abstinence. All adults are bound by the law of fast up to their 60th year. The current canonical discipline of penance for the United States, in addition to the general character of the Lenten season, may thus be summed up: Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of abstinence from meat and also days of fast; that is, limited to a single full meal. The other Fridays of Lent remain days of abstinence from meat. The Fridays of the year outside Lent remain days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial or personal penance, or acts of religion, charity, or Christian witness.
DIVINE WISDOM The Lord’s message, through Moses, was to “take no revenge and cherish no grudge . . . love your neighbor as yourself” (Leviticus 19:18). We might think, “Great in theory, but not always realistic!” Then Jesus in today’s Gospel goes even further. Take a slap in the face and then turn the other cheek? Treat enemies the same as friends? Again, we’re tempted to think that those are nice ideals, but not very practical in the “real world.” Paul echoes Jesus when he tells the Corinthians that what passes for human wisdom is absurdity to God. Divine wisdom casts sunshine on the good and the bad, showers rain on the honest and the dishonest—without distinction. We must examine our wisdom and common sense to see how they compare to the wisdom of God, and make adjustments accordingly. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

Stewardship Blessings
STEWARDSHIP PRAYER
Loving God I believe that You are the source of every blessing and You have blessed me with all that I have and all that I am. Help me to joyfully enter into the grace of giving as well as into the happiness of serving. I willingly accept the challenge of stewardship in my life, recognizing that being a good steward is nothing more than living an authentic Christian lifestyle.
Dear Lord, I resolve to be generous with my time, talent and treasure. I resolve to participate fully in my faith community. At times I will fall short, but with the help of Your love, I pledge to keep trying. In so doing, I will confidently live each day serving and loving You, as well as my brothers and sisters, from my heart, through Jesus Christ.
Amen.

Septimo Domingo del Tiempo
Ordinario
(Ciclo A)
Desde el escritorio del Padre Juan… Estimados Parroquianos,
MARTYRDOM Live as though today you may die a martyr’s death. —Charles de Foucauld
Séptimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario Levítico 19:1-2, 17-18
I Corintios 3:16-23

Isaías 49:14-15 I Corintios 4:1-5 Mateo 6:24-34

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
