CRACK SEALING CHECK LIST

□ Do site inspection/evaluation

□ Do traffic control plan to include speed reduction

□ Schedule equipment and people for job

□ Insure that quantity of crack filler material is on hand

□ Coordinate for Colorado State Patrol support for job

□ Coordinate for press release through Bob Wilson

□ Set out VMS boards to warn public of prior to job

□ Designate Traffic Supervisor and insure flagger certification

□ Schedule heating of material several hours prior to work

□ Schedule tail gate talk

CHIP CALCULATION GUIDE

DETERMINE:

1. Length of job in feet2. Width of job in feet3. Chip rate (28 lbs by normal estimate factor/starting point)

CALCULATE TONS :

• Length X Width divided by 9 = square yards

• Square yards X Pounds per square yard (28) = pounds

• Pounds divided by 2000 = tons of chips

LIQUID ASPHALT (HFMS2P) CALCULATION GUIDE

DETERMINE:

1. Length of job in feet

2. Width of job in feet

3. Desired shot rate of job (normally .38 to.46 depending on chip size)

CALCULATE GALLONS AND TONS :

• Length X Width divided by 9 = square yards

• Square yards X shot rate (.38) = gallons of oil

• Gallons divided by 238 = tons of oil

CHIP JOB CHECK LIST

□ Do site inspection to do materials estimate□ Do job estimate to insure commission limits are met□ Order and schedule chip deliver (PO)□ Order oil 4 days out (PO)□ Do traffic control plan to include speed reduction□ Schedule equipment and people for job□ Coordinate to sweep job site□ Order and plan tab placement□ Secure and put up job signs and VMS boards□ Coordinate for Colorado State Patrol support□ Coordinate with Bob Wilson for press release□ Identify traffic control supervisor/insure flagger cards□ Schedule to move equipment to job site□ Schedule tailgate talk□ Schedule briefing for traffic control personnel□ Schedule drivers meeting day prior/training talk□ Mark overhead wires□ Monitor weather/2 am call off if poor weather□ Pavement/air temperature: 70 degrees and rising□ Warning letter in mailboxes prior to job□ Arrange for post job sweeping□ Have blotting material on hand□ Have truck with MDSS on site□ Have rosin paper on hand□ Check chipper bar height on all tandems□ Check truck fit (bar and bed) to chipper day prior to job

ORDERING FACTORS

• There are 25 tons per tanker load• One tanker load will normally cover 2 miles/one lane (15 ft)• Order oil 4 days in advance• Confirm order the day before• 1st tanker should be on site at 7 am• Order loads 1.5 hours apart• One tanker normally carries 25 tons/6000 gallons• Normally use 8 tandems with one spare• Oil is polymer modified emulsion CRS-2P• 2000 gallons distributor gets 3.25 pulls from tanker• Oil is 238 gallons per ton/8.4 lbs per gallon• Demurrage is paid 2 hour after scheduled delivery time. Pay attention to arrival

time. Call vendor if truck is late.• Have blotting material on site. Can be sand or crusher fines.• Have rosin paper on hand• Allow 25 minutes to load 2000 gallons• Tab every 4th stripe

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

• Chipper• Roller x 2• Distributor x 2• Dump trucks x 8• Tilt trailer• Broom/side sweep• Tandem with water tank• Loader
