Ministry Teams at UUMC In addition to serving as a Ministry Team Leader or in one of the positions of the Administrative Team, there are opportunities to support the Ministry Teams by serving as a member of the team. The teams are described below so that you may indicate your interest for a particular area.

Inviting Ministries Team

Makes UUMC inviting to visitors and church members and creates an environment that welcomes new people into fellowship.

Worship Ministry Team

Enhances worship at UUMC, creates a worship experience for our community members and visitors that helps us grow both spiritually, and by increasing attendance/membership.

Adult Education Ministry Team Offers opportunities for adults at UUMC to grow in spiritual maturity, ministry and faith-centered relationships through intentional faith development.

Children’s Ministry Team Provides UUMC children (preschool to 5th grade) with educational, enriching and fun opportunities/programs which enable them to explore and develop an understanding of faith, religion, the Bible and God.

Pastoral Care Ministry Team Brings Christ to UUMC members at home and shows Christ’s love to those no longer able to participate in the daily activities at UUMC.

Missions and Social Justice Ministry Team Provides UUMC congregation opportunities to do charity by ministering to those affected by violence and injustice, and to do justice by confronting the causes of violence and injustice as a witness of Jesus’ healing work in the world.

Communications Ministry Team Helps promote and expand the presence of UUMC through supporting other church ministries

with guidance and support of print media or Internet exposure.

Fellowship Ministry Team Provides intergenerational opportunities for the members of University United Methodist Church (UUMC) to gather for food and fellowship.

Youth Ministry Team Meets at least 4 times per year and works with Director of Youth Ministries to:

Coordinate programming for the academic year and summer

Recruit, train, and equip adult volunteers for youth activities

Ensure all adult volunteers are safe-sanctuary trained and certified according to the local

church policy

Coordinate fund-raising activities

Prepare the youth budget and administrate youth finances

Young Adult Ministry Team Meets at least 4 times per year and works with the Pastor of Young Adult and Cross-Cultural Ministries to:

Assess the growth and health of the young adult ministry

Identify ways the congregation can invest in the ministry (and participate personally)

Coordinate programming for the academic year and summer

Prepare the young adult budget and administrate young adult finance

Inviting Ministries Team Leader Volunteer Job Description

Purpose: The Inviting Ministries Team Leader will help make University United Methodist

Church (UUMC) inviting to visitors and church members and create an environment that welcomes new people into fellowship.

Time Commitment: Attend Ministry Team meetings and retreats (about 6 per year)

Inviting Team Leader or Communications Team Leader will attend Leadership Council meetings and retreats (about 6 per year) 2-3 hours for other tasks/program activities per month

Convene the Inviting Team as appropriate Duties: 1. Work with the Inviting Ministries Team to accomplish the stated purpose and determine an annual

budget. 2. Identify and participate in opportunities in the Saint Louis community where UUMC members can invite

visitors to come experience UUMC (i.e. PrideFest). 3. Create and manage approaches in the church that make UUMC a warm and friendly experience for

visitors and members, e.g. Loaves and Fishes (bread loaves given to first-time visitors), parking-lot greeters, beverage cart and environment in Narthex, flowers planted on church grounds, etc.

4. Work with Communications (e.g. church banners), Fellowship (e.g. fellowship time and potlucks), and Worship teams (e.g. ushers) to ensure that other church responsibilities and tasks impact visitors and members in a positive way.

5. Encourage UUMC members to invite visitors to experience UUMC and potentially become a part of our community.

6. Participate in Monthly Service Days and encourage congregational participation. Expectations: Support the ministries of the church though:

Worship Ministry Team Leader Volunteer Job Description

Purpose: The Worship Ministry Team Leader shall work with the team to enhance worship at

University United Methodist Church (UUMC), to create a worship experience for our community of members and visitors that helps us grow both spiritually, and by increasing attendance/membership.

Time Commitment: Attend Ministry Team meetings and retreats (about 6 per year) Attend Leadership Council meetings and retreats (about 6 per year)

2-3 hours for other tasks/program activities per month Convene the Worship Team as appropriate Duties: 1. Schedule and lead Worship Team meetings to accomplish the above purpose. Meetings are held

approximately once a month, depending on the liturgical time of year. Share any meeting notes or action items from prior meetings as captured in our online liturgical planning tool or personal notes. Work with Pastor on agenda items prior to meeting. Plan for a brief spiritual focus at the start of each meeting.

2. Monitor annual goals that enhance worship. Work with Pastor to prioritize goals based on program or funding needs. Report status via emails or during team meetings. Goals may be short-term or long-term, and other team members may volunteer to lead some goals. Set up necessary communication, additional assistance, and meetings through completion of goals. This is generally outside of our normal meetings.

3. Actively participate in numerous activities and additional worship services during Advent, Lent, and Holy Week. Provide communication on events and services and actively recruit volunteers as events and services dictate. Assign, delegate, or volunteer for numerous tasks.

4. Receive and report out to the Worship Team any feedback received from congregants on worship services or related events.

5. Assist the Pastor and Music Director in determining the team’s annual budget. 6. Participate in Monthly Service Days and encourage congregational participation. Expectations: Support the ministries of the church though:

Purpose: The Adult Education Ministry Team Leader shall offer opportunities for adults at

Children’s Ministry Team Leader Volunteer Job Description

Purpose: The Children’s Ministry Team Leader shall provide University United Methodist

Provide gifts on major holidays, such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. One-on-one visits to

deliver the gifts. 4. A member of the committee will serve as Manna Ministry Coordinator, coordinating meals for

members in need. 5. Serve Holy Communion to home-based members upon request. 6. Make certain contact is made with members who have suddenly stopped attending worship. 8. Missions and Social Justice Ministry Team Leader Volunteer Job Description

Purpose: The Missions and Social Justice Team Leader shall provide University United

Plan meeting with the Missions and Social Justice Team, every six weeks or so. Coordinate agenda

items with team members and plan meeting accordingly. 2. Coordinate service opportunities and events with the church calendar and sermon

series/worship/outside opportunities (such as Change the World Sunday and Christmas gift gathering opportunities) and coordinate reoccurring service opportunities, such as serving at The Bridge and missions trips (such as Appalachia Service Project).

5. Coordinate volunteers for the Harvest Home Dinner (fall activity).

6. Coordinate with Worship Team for Christmas Eve cookie reception.

Trustee Operations Officer Volunteer Job Description

Purpose: In order to provide a safe, comfortable and attractive environment showing

radical hospitality to all comers, the Trustee Operations Officer will work with the Administrative Team to develop and execute plans for the enhancement of the physical infrastructure of University United Methodist Church (UUMC).

Time Commitment: Attend Administrative Team meetings and retreats (about 8 per year) 15-20 hours for other tasks/program activities per month Duties:

1. Serve as the triage point person for Building/Parsonage issues (determine whether repairs can be completed by a congregation member or need to be done by a professional; determine whether a repair needs to happen immediately or if it can wait until the next Monthly Service Day).

2. Coordinate “Do it ourselves” maintenance (Organize Monthly Service days and maintain a list of members with special skills who can work on an immediate need).

3. Coordinate job bids (if it is within budget - trustees decide, if it is outside of budget - bring to AT)

4. Participate in annual parsonage review for Annual Parsonage Report.

5. Maintain electronic work log and share it monthly with AT.

6. Convene Trustee representatives and confer as needed.

1. Monitor/Manage contracted grounds maintenance - including lawn service, snow removal, landscape/sprinkler system, tree care.

2. Monitor/Manage/Evaluate service contracts for Church (custodial service, insurance contract, and maintenance services, i.e. roof, organ, elevator, outdoor sprinkler system, fire alarm, pest control, HVAC).

3. Prepare annual budget for Trustee tasks and monitor expenditures.

4. Convene Trustee representatives and confer as needed.

Purpose: The Treasurer shall maintain consistent and accurate financial records for University United Methodist Church (UUMC) accounts and provide timely reports or more information upon request.

6. Develop and update forms for check requests which require adequate documentation to legitimate the payment. Provide information and educate the financial secretary and persons filling out check requests how to determine which account number to credit or charge.

7. Write checks on a regular schedule that is known in the congregation.
