2014 - 2015Healthcare Coalition Staffing Transitions

Erika Henry is departing the Region 9 Healthcare Coalition and leaving behind a stronger, better prepared and more inclusive organization. After four years of exemplary service, Erika has been recruited to work for DOH to serve as the state's Medical Surge Coordinator.

During her tenure, the Healthcare Coalition had many notable accomplishments including: implementation of the WATrac bed tracking system accross Region 9, revised the Disaster Medical Control Centers system to better meet the communication needs of the region, developed an Emergency Support Function 8 resource manual, developed an annual outreach summit for healthcare providers to educate and inform about the importance of organizational preparation and participation in the Healthcare Coalition, instituted regional visits to hospitals to review & assist with facility-level emergency preparedness planning & exercising, & developed exercises that educate care providers about the importance of emergency medical staffing and the policies to support it. This list of accomplishments only begins to share the impact that Erika has left on our healthcare system in eastern Washington. Everyone who has had the fortune of working with her knows that her skills and talents will be missed. Erika's work ethic and tact was appreciated by everyone she engaged with throughout the Inland Northwest.

DOH and Erika have been incredibly generous with the commitment of time and resources to ensure a smooth and cohesive transition of staff at the Region 9 Healthcare Coalition. Erika, now a full time DOH employee, is transitioning responsibilities to the incoming Healthcare Coalition Coordinator Travis Nichols, through November 10. This unique partnership approach is a perfect example of the commitment to the coalition Erika has demonstrated time and time again.

Travis Nichols, incoming Region 9 Healthcare Coalition Coordinator: My first official day was October 16 and started with attendance at the annual Healthcare Emergency Preparedness 101 Summit: Your Region 9 Healthcare Coalition. It was a 6am start that allowed the twenty attendees to share an amazing sunrise from Shriners Hospital as we reviewed the meaning and importance of the coalition in our region. I could not think of a more fitting allegory to

begin my time with the Healthcare Coalition than by sharing its mission with our community as we watch a new day unfold.

The next few years will be an exciting and dynamic time for the Healthcare Coalition. I am entering at a moment when an ambitious and exciting path forward, outlined in the 2014 strategic planning process, is ready to commence. I have a background in business administration and non-profit organizations that will help us move the healthcare collation toward long-term sustainability. We have an excellent track record to build from and a collectively created vision for the future that gives us a clear path forward. I am looking forward to working with all of our stakeholders and partners to ensure a robust and reliant organization.
