Year 7 ‘Island Day’

On Wednesday 4th September, our Year 7 students were based on ‘The Island’ for the day. Throughout the day they worked in teams to overcome challenges, solve problems and make decisions. They took part in a range of activities from building a signal tower in Maths to orienteering in PE. It was fantastic to see how

well the students worked together and the feedback from all staff was overwhelmingly positive. Each form tutor nominated one Year 7 student for their first LOC (Letter of Commendation) and we celebrated their success in the assembly at the end of the day. The winners of these are listed below. An amazing first day, Year 7, finished off with a ‘guard of honour’ farewell from all of the JRCS staff!

7A: Summer Sorenson, 7B: Nifemi Ogunde, 7C: Kenzie Maffia, 7D: Shalom Ajayi, 7E: Alfie McCarthy Higgins, 7F: Faye Reed, 7G: Harry Penton, 7H: Scarlett Dunn, 7I: Maryjane Jenkin, 7J: Deborah Oduniyi.

The first group to complete their expedition were the Year 11 Silver group, who took on the challenge of a three day trek across the South Downs, undertaking a practice expedition on 3rd – 5th July, and then completing their qualifying expedition on 11th – 13th July. This group were Shanise Garner, Luke Craigie and Ire Ajala. They were also joined by Alperen Oktay who was able to come along and make up the numbers and gain some valuable experience. Mr Hargreaves helped to supervise on the practice expedition and Mr Kilminster helped with supervising the group and also acted as the group’s assessor.

The Year 12 Gold group completed a four day canoeing expedition on the River Wye, leaving the town of Hay-on Wye on Tuesday 16th July and ending up at Symonds Yat on Saturday 19th July. This group were Alperen Oktay, Daniel Gill,
