HEADTEACHER’S NEWS
Welcome! On Wednesday 4th September we welcomed our new Year 7 cohort to JRCS and all our other year groups returned to school to start formal lessons today (Friday 6th September).
We have had a fantastic Summer of examination results at JRCS. Our A-Level A* - C were the best in the Borough and many of our Sixth Formers have gone on to exciting courses at the top universities.
Our GCSE results were our best ever and we have seen improvement across all the key indicators. Many of last year’s Year 11 students will be starting the Sixth Form this week to continue their studies at JRCS.
Open Evening On Thursday 12th September we are holding our annual Open Evening for parents and families of current Year 6 students. Even if you have a son or daughter already attending the school please come along and join us at this event which runs from 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
My talks will take place at 6:15pm and 7:30pm and I look forward to seeing many of you at this important event.
Late Start On Friday 13th September we have a late start for students. The school will be open from 11:00am onwards and registration for all students will be at 11:15am. The day will start with Period 3 at 11:30am.
Many thanks.
Mr Smith Headteacher

Year 7 ‘Island Day’
On Wednesday 4th September, our Year 7 students were based on ‘The Island’ for the day. Throughout the day they worked in teams to overcome challenges, solve problems and make decisions. They took part in a range of activities from building a signal tower in Maths to orienteering in PE. It was fantastic to see how
well the students worked together and the feedback from all staff was overwhelmingly positive. Each form tutor nominated one Year 7 student for their first LOC (Letter of Commendation) and we celebrated their success in the assembly at the end of the day. The winners of these are listed below. An amazing first day, Year 7, finished off with a ‘guard of honour’ farewell from all of the JRCS staff!
7A: Summer Sorenson, 7B: Nifemi Ogunde, 7C: Kenzie Maffia, 7D: Shalom Ajayi, 7E: Alfie McCarthy Higgins, 7F: Faye Reed, 7G: Harry Penton, 7H: Scarlett Dunn, 7I: Maryjane Jenkin, 7J: Deborah Oduniyi.

Money raised on non-uniform day The total amount raised on the non-uniform day in July was £832.85 which has been donated to Spinal Muscular Atrophy UK. Ms Boller Student Communication Manager Silver and Gold D of E Summer Success In the first two weeks of the Summer term, two groups of students from last year’s Year 11 and 12 worked very hard to complete the expedition section of their Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards. The first group to complete their expedition were the Year 11 Silver group, who took on the challenge of a three day trek across the South Downs, undertaking a practice expedition on 3rd – 5th July, and then completing their qualifying expedition on 11th – 13th July. This group were Shanise Garner, Luke Craigie and Ire Ajala. They were also joined by Alperen Oktay who was able to come along and make up the numbers and gain some valuable experience. Mr Hargreaves helped to supervise on the practice expedition and Mr Kilminster helped with supervising the group and also acted as the group’s assessor.
The Year 12 Gold group completed a four day canoeing expedition on the River Wye, leaving the town of Hay-on Wye on Tuesday 16th July and ending up at Symonds Yat on Saturday 19th July. This group were Alperen Oktay, Daniel Gill,
