Mike Owens

Fort Walton Beach High School Mike Owens is the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at

Fort Walton Beach High School. He has been at FWBHS since

2000 after previously serving as a head coach at Dixie County

H.S. and Eufaula (Ala.) High School. He was also the offensive

coordinator for the 1995 FWBHS State Championship team.

Coach Owens is a native of Niceville and a graduate of Niceville

H.S. He played college football at Austin Peay State University

and was a 4-year letterman at quarterback and defensive back.

He received a Master’s degree from Florida State University in

1991 after serving as a graduate assistant coach for the Semi-

noles for the 1989-1990 seasons. Coach Owens has been mar-

ried to his wife Kelly for 24 years and has 3 children: Jessica, 23,

Sarah, 15, and John Michael, 11.

Greg Thomas

Choctawhatchee High School

Greg Thomas has been the Athletic Director and Head Football

Coach at Choctawhatchee High School since 2008. He led

CHS to the playoffs in 2009, his second season. Coach Tho-

mas earned his B.S. in Health and Physical Education and his

M.E. in Exercise and Sport Science from East Carolina Univer-

sity. He has previously served as head coach at Washington

(N.C.) High School, Fort Mill (S.C.) High School and J.H. Rose

High School in Greenville, N.C. His overall head coaching re-

cord is 150-57 and his teams have made it to the playoffs 11

times, including 4 State Championships at J.H. Rose HS.

ROTARY FELLOWSHIP AT THE BBQ CHALLENGE

The recent Smoke on the Harbor BBQ

Challenge in Destin was a great fund-

raiser for our club and a lot of fun for

all involved. We grossed over

$12000 and netted $7000 from the

sale of 280 racks of ribs and 170

butts!! Special thanks go to the tire-

less efforts of Lyndon Poff, Jason

Clark, Robert Anderson, Scott Smith,

Charles West, Jan Pooley and Gerry

Chalker. They put in an amazing

amount of time in making this event

a success!
