CAMP VOL_NTEERS...all that is missing is U!

The Diocesan Summer Camp for Adults with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities is seeking volunteers willing to assist at its residential camp, August 12-17, 2018. The camp takes place at Camp Kirchenwald in Lebanon County and serves the needs of approximately 40 adults. The camp has been held annually for the past 32 years, and is primarily dependent on volunteer support. Last year, volunteers from 21 parishes participated alongside volunteers from other faith communities to make this event a success. Anyone 16+ is welcome to volunteer for full-time or part-time duties; there is a particular need for male volunteers, 18 or older, who are able to spend the night, and for volunteers skilled at running an arts & crafts program. All volunteers are required to complete the Diocesan Clearance process and attend a brief training session prior to helping at camp. A deadline of June 30, 2018 for expressing volunteer interest is requested in order to facilitate planning efforts.

Sponsor a Camper

Would you like to sponsor a campership for a person with a disability who might not otherwise be able to afford camp? The Diocese of Harrisburg is seeking donations to de-fray the cost for campers to ensure that each individual who would like to attend camp is able to do so, regardless of finances. A full week of camp costs $575, but donations in any amount will be welcomed. They can be sent to the Office of Ministry with People with Disabilities, 4800 Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111. Checks should be made payable to the Diocese of Harrisburg. For more information on volunteering or sponsoring a camper, please contact Larry Kiley at 717-657-4804, Ext. 322, or email: [email protected].

Donations Needed For Interfaith Shelter for Homeless Families

The Interfaith Shelter for Homeless Families (a Catholic Charities residential program located in suburban Harrisburg) is in need of the following donations: bath towels, laundry detergent, all-purpose cleaners, bleach, paper plates, paper cups, paper bowls, plastic silverware, paper towels, copy paper, and toilet paper. If you can help, please contact the shelter at 717-652-8740. Thank you for your generosity!

Summer Foster Care

Many families will be enjoying quality time together during vacations and fun activities like our Parish Festivals this summer. Unfortunately many children in the foster care system won't have that opportunity. You can make a difference in the life of a child by opening your home to a child in need. Start today. To find out more, please contact Nicole or Kelly at Catholic Charities Specialized Foster Care at (717) 564-7115 or email [email protected]; or [email protected].

Save the Dates Oberammergau Passion Play 2020

Mark your calendars now for a once-in-a-decade opportunity to see the Oberammergau Passion Play in 2020. Bishop Ronald Gainer will lead a pilgrimage from the Diocese of Harrisburg to experience this breathtaking play depicting the Passion of Jesus. This moving production only takes place every 10 years. In addition to the play on September 12, 2020, the trip will include visits to cities like Paris, Milan, Turin, Riva Del Guardia, Innsbruck, Oberammergau, Salzburg, and Munich.

The dates for the tour are September 7th-17th, 2020. Specific details will be announced in the near future, but mark your calendars now for this fabulous opportunity to experience Oberammergau with Bishop Gainer!

Youth Protection Coordinator Immediate Full Time Opening

The primary function of this position is to ensure that all clergy, employees and those volunteers working with youth & vulnerable adults are compliant with the background screening and training requirements of both the Commonwealth of PA and Diocese of Harrisburg.

You need to be highly organized and possess excellent customer service skills as you will be the help desk for handling technical difficulties and/ or lack of understanding of the application/content of the training material/interpretation of policy and/or Commonwealth regulations. Catechists Needed for 2018-2019 – For grade 1. If you are interested, please contact Amy Smedley at 717-951-5434 or [email protected]. Catechists must have valid clearances and be at least 21 years of age. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 PM-7:35 PM. Please consider sharing your time and faith with our parish youth.

The St. Peter's Men's Club will be sponsoring a Parish outing to a Lancaster Barnstormer's game vs. New Britain Bees on Saturday, July 28th @ 6:30pm. The game is open to all Parishioners and includes Lawn Deck ticket, a private BBQ buffet for our group in the

new Lawn Deck area and fireworks following the game. The menu will include pork sliders, hot dogs, BBQ meatballs, fruit and vegetable skewers, chips & salsa, desserts and drinks. The cost is $8 for adults, $6 for children 5 to 12, and free for children 4 and under. If you are interested in tickets, please contact Steve Cook at [email protected] or 717 609-2972. Ticket deadline is July 16th.

4th of JULY FIREWORKS As there are scheduled fireworks for the 4th at the Star Barn Village across the street, we would like everyone to know that the church parking lot will be closed on that day and there will be no parking anywhere on the fields. While this may upset some, we have to consider that our major expansion was just completed, the fields are still fresh from the water basins and drainage being reworked and we need to protect and ensure the safety of all. While we know our property is the best view in town, we hope you understand. Thank you!
