Over a hundred rearers mostly belonging to scheduled caste category attended the sessions. Director Sericulture Gulzar Ahmad Shabnum, District Sericulture Officer Udhampur Subash Chander Gupta, Sericulture Assistants and other functionaries of the Department interacted with the participants. The purpose of holding the sessions was to reach out to the silkworm rearers to have the first-hand appraisal of their problems and seek feed- back on incentives and facili- ties extended to them by Sericulture Development Department for increasing the cocoon production. During the interaction, the rearers highlighted the issues confronting them during the silkworm rearing and put forth their suggestions with regard to extension of the mulberry plantation, provision of quality seed and green foliage, improv- ing chawki rearing, drying and marketing facilities, besides augmenting the rearing capa- bilities of the rearers. Director Sericulture said that the Department has initi- ated various measures to upgrade the facilities for rear- ers and every effort was being made to explore resources for creation of dependable infra- structure on modern lines to increase the quality and pro- duction of cocoon. He said that under the cen- trally-sponsored scheme 'Silk Samagra' various incentives including construction of rear- ing sheds, chawki rearing cen- ters, provision of rearing kits, mountages and Spray Pumps are provided free of cost to the silkworm rearers. Under Scheduled Cast Sub Plan (SCSP) project, 56 rear- ing sheds at a unit cost of Rs.1.25 lakh with 10 per cent beneficiary share are under construction along with three Chawki rearing centers at a unit cost of Rs. 10 lakh for the benefit of silkworm rearers belonging to SC category, he informed. The Director Sericulture asked the rearers to make best use of the facilities and incen- tives available to them under the scheme to increase their produce. Later, the Director Sericulture inspected the ongoing mulberry plantation and vegetative propagation work in various areas of the district. STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: A two days training/Workshop on Solid and Liquid Resource Management (SLRM) conducted by Mission Director Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen in col- laboration with District Panchayat Officer Kathua, Virinder Bawa held at Government Degree College For Women Kathua. The function started on February 6 and concluded on Friday. On the occasion, Mission Director Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen, Indu Kanwal Chib was Chief Guest while Additional District Development Commissioner Dr. Shubhra Sharma was also present. Head Teacher, Ritu Rani was the chief guestwhile staff and a large number of students were present on theoccasion. Various poetspoems their creations in Hindi, Urdu,Punjabi and Dogri languages on various social evils like drugaddiction, female feticide, gender disparity, illiteracy and dowrysystem. Prominent among the poets who recited their writingsincluded Vijay Sharma, T R Sumbria, Sham Lal Khajuria,Balak Ram, R S Katal, Saroj Bala and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Ritu Rani welcomed and thankedthe Information Department for organizing such type of pro-grammes. She appealed for organizing more such programmeson regular basis.

She also expressed gratitude to the poets, writers and singersfor presenting their performances.
