STATE TIMES NEWSUDHAMPUR: TheSericulture DevelopmentDepartment on Friday heldinteractive sessions with thesilkworm rearers at Larh,Chanunta and Barta areas ofUdhampur district. Over ahundred rearers mostlybelonging to scheduled castecategory attended the sessions.

Director Sericulture GulzarAhmad Shabnum, DistrictSericulture Officer UdhampurSubash Chander Gupta,Sericulture Assistants andother functionaries of theDepartment interacted withthe participants.

The purpose of holding thesessions was to reach out tothe silkworm rearers to havethe first-hand appraisal oftheir problems and seek feed-back on incentives and facili-ties extended to them bySericulture DevelopmentDepartment for increasing thecocoon production.

During the interaction, therearers highlighted the issues

confronting them during thesilkworm rearing and put forththeir suggestions with regardto extension of the mulberryplantation, provision of qualityseed and green foliage, improv-ing chawki rearing, drying andmarketing facilities, besidesaugmenting the rearing capa-bilities of the rearers.

Director Sericulture saidthat the Department has initi-ated various measures toupgrade the facilities for rear-ers and every effort was beingmade to explore resources forcreation of dependable infra-structure on modern lines toincrease the quality and pro-duction of cocoon.

He said that under the cen-trally-sponsored scheme 'SilkSamagra' various incentivesincluding construction of rear-ing sheds, chawki rearing cen-ters, provision of rearing kits,

mountages and Spray Pumpsare provided free of cost to thesilkworm rearers.

Under Scheduled Cast SubPlan (SCSP) project, 56 rear-ing sheds at a unit cost ofRs.1.25 lakh with 10 per centbeneficiary share are underconstruction along with threeChawki rearing centers at aunit cost of Rs. 10 lakh for thebenefit of silkworm rearersbelonging to SC category, heinformed.

The Director Sericultureasked the rearers to make bestuse of the facilities and incen-tives available to them underthe scheme to increase theirproduce.

Later, the DirectorSericulture inspected theongoing mulberry plantationand vegetative propagationwork in various areas of thedistrict.

STATE TIMES NEWSKATHUA: A two days training/Workshop on Solid andLiquid Resource Management (SLRM) conducted byMission Director Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen in col-laboration with District Panchayat Officer Kathua, VirinderBawa held at Government Degree College For WomenKathua. The function started on February 6 and concludedon Friday.

On the occasion, Mission Director Swachh Bharat MissionGrameen, Indu Kanwal Chib was Chief Guest whileAdditional District Development Commissioner Dr. ShubhraSharma was also present.

A professional expert of Solid Liquid ResourceManagement, C. Srinivasan from Vellore who is also theProject Director of Indian Green Services Vellore, ApexMonitoring Committee (AMC) special Invitee, NationalGreen Tribunal (NGT), New Delhi imparted the training toSarpanchs as a part of Swachh Bharat Mission Grameen.

Sarpanchs from various blocks of Kathua Viz Bani,Duggan, Baggan, Billawer and Lohai Malhar besides morethan 70 participants participated in the two days event.

Head Teacher, Ritu Rani was the chief guestwhile staff and a large number of students were present on theoccasion. Various poetspoems their creations in Hindi, Urdu,Punjabi and Dogri languages on various social evils like drugaddiction, female feticide, gender disparity, illiteracy and dowrysystem. Prominent among the poets who recited their writingsincluded Vijay Sharma, T R Sumbria, Sham Lal Khajuria,Balak Ram, R S Katal, Saroj Bala and others.

Speaking on the occasion, Ritu Rani welcomed and thankedthe Information Department for organizing such type of pro-grammes. She appealed for organizing more such programmeson regular basis.
