Thermography Report
Scope of Works
To perform quantitative thermography inspections of the electrical distribution equipment for the purpose of ongoing risk management at the following location(s):
Concept
Conventional techniques such as impedance testing and torque checking have a relatively low effectiveness in detecting and preventing electrical component failure. Thermal imaging is the technique for making invisible infrared radiation visible and is the non-contact on-line mapping and analysis of thermal patterns from the surface of an object that can be employed to detect temperature rises as "hot spots". Identification of hot spots can be used to trigger remedial works, reducing the number of defects and improving reliability. The infrared element of the radiation is measured and constructed from a multitude of point measurements taken in sequence whilst scanning the field of view representing the point temperature values.
The temperature of electrical components and connections are indicative of their health. Excessive heat due to increased electrical resistance will be generated by faulty components and by loose or deteriorated connections, short-circuit, overload, mismatched or improperly installed components. Equipment running hot can also be related to load imbalance, failure of cooling, missing or deteriorated materials, improper installation or insufficient amounts of material usually cause anomalies in insulation system.
A regular thermal imaging program can assist to identify potential problems before the component fails allowing repairs to be conveniently scheduled as apposed to costly and unexpected breakdowns or failures.
Disclaimer
Due to the dynamic nature of both operating and ambient conditions of electrical equipment, the images recorded in this report are only valid for the specific moment in time when they were recorded. Many external forces can immediately change the operating condition of a piece of equipment , therefore the thermographer Eric Hammond, and Replacement Lamp Services Limited are not responsible for any action, inaction or consequences which arise from this report.

Inspection Methodology
(A) Inspection Conditions:
The inspection shall be performed when the site is operating under normal conditions. This ensures thebest conditions for the detection of temperature anomalies.
(B) Equipment Used:
Infrared Camera: Fluke i450
Mobile Phone (for recording of notes and reference images)
Basic Hand Tools
(C) Method Statements:
Assess of electrical cupboard condition: Check cupboard doors and locks. Check for rubbish or area being used for storage. Report on any anomalies.
Assess electrical panel condition: Check condition of electrical panel doors, locks and protective covers. Check for missing fuse carriers, missing fuse plugs, missing MCB blanks or gaps in the panels. Report any anomalies. Minor repairs to be made at time of inspection or quote provided.
Perform Thermography Inspection: Report on any hotspots or anomalies visible at time of inspection. Add comments, references and location notes to image file.
The inspection shall include but is not limited to the following panels:
Main Switch Boards; Power Factor Correction Units. Metering and Link Boxes; Distribution & Sub-Distribution Boards; Fuse panels. Bus Bar and Cable Zones. Mechanical Services Switch Boards (MSSBs); Motor Control Centres (MCCs); Air Conditioning / Ventilation / AHU Panels. PLC control panels; Pump Panels.
The inspection of these panels shall include but is not limited to the following components:
Incoming Supply; Main & Sub-Main Switches. Bus bars and cabling. Isolators, Circuit Breakers, RCDs/ELCB's; Fuses and connections. Contactors & Overloads. Active, neutral, earth links and terminals. Relays and PLC I/O blocks. Control Voltage Transformers. Capacitors and shunt transformers in Power Factor Panels. Various other components and circuit wiring within the panels.
On the completion of inspection ensure that all panels are fixed back into place, panel doors closed and locked(where required), cupboard doors closed and locked.

Report and Analysis
Each distribution panel and thermographic image shall be assessed on a case by case basis. Recommendations to investigate or perform corrective action shall be made with consideration to the type of panel and/or component being assessed.
The thermographer may use the below Delta-T(temperature difference) criteria to evaluate the temperature and categorise the severity of an exception. These criteria are reported as the temperature rise of the exception above the temperature of a defined reference, which is typically the ambient air temperature, a similar component under the same conditions or the maximum allowable temperature of the component.
Other anomalies such as gaps in the panels, missing fuse carriers, exposed terminals, missing fuse plugs, electrical cupboards accumulating rubbish or being used as storage areas will also be noted in the report and may also be categorised as below at the discretion of the thermographer.
