THEULTIMATERUNNINGEXPERIENCEAfteritssuccessfuldebutin2011,thespecialchallengeoftheSalzkammergutMarathonisintheprogrammeagain.Afterstartinginthe Imperial town of Bad Ischl and following a 15km lead in, it follows the original circular course of the 27km Classic LakeWolfgangsee–withthe“invigorating”Falkenstein(220mdifference inaltitude).Theparticipantswereunanimous–“Acracking,firstclassmarathon”.TheClassicisthe27kmRaceofcourse,whichtookplaceforthefirsttime42yearsago(onthe26thOctober,1972).Withupto2,000entrants,itisthecompetitionwiththegreatestnumberofparticipants,butthe10kmShorelineRaceandthe5.2kmPanoramaRacearegettingmoreandmorepopular–notforgettingtheJunior‐Marathon,thattakeplaceonSaturday(18thOctober,2014)onthepicturesquelakepromenadeinStrobl,ofcourse!

JUNIOR‐MARATHONAsapreludetothe43rd InternationalLakeWolfgangseeRace”,onSaturday18thOctober,2014from1.30p.m.thejuniorsareontheirstartingblocksonceagainthisyear–onthepicturesqueLake‐Promenade inthecentreofStrobl.Astheslogan„Running isFun” suggests, it’s not the performance that counts, it’s the enjoyment. Participants in this age group (2001 and younger i. e.maximum 13 years old) run 200–1,200m. We invite families, kindergartens and schools to this relaxed test of talent! Everyparticipantthatreachesthefinishinglinereceivesalovelysouvenirmedalandanimmediateprize.Forallparticipants(nomatterhowfast)therewillbearaffleforsomegreatprizes–themainonebeingamountainbike.

Thecollectionofnumbersandlateregistrationarebothpossiblefrom11.30a.m.upto45minutesbeforetherespectivestartintheLesesaalonthefirstfloor.EachagegroupfromU5toU14willbeindividuallyclassified(femalesandmales)!Thefirstthreeofeachclasswill win one of 60 trophies! 5.2KMPANORAMARACEAt5.2km,theLakeWolfgangseePanoramaRaceistheidealcompetitionforbeginners,orafittingeventforall,whowishtoenjoythespecialatmospheretheLakeWolfgangseeraceoffers,butwhoprefertorunashorterdistance.ThestartofthePanoramaRacetakesplaceonthe19thOctober,2014at10.30a.m(group1)and10.33a.m. (group2) fromtheDorfplatz (VillageSquare) in thecentreoftheSalzburgparishofStroblattheeasternendofLakeWolfgangsee.Especiallyscenicjustafterthestart,isadelightfullypicturesqueandlightlyrollingsectioncalledtheBürglstein‐Promenade,onwhichtheborderintoUpperAustriaiscrossed.Whilstonthis picture‐book section, the race passes over a wooden walkway only two meters above the turquoise waters of LakeWolfgangsee,withthestrikingrockformationknownastheBürglsteinonyourrightandLakeWolfgangseestretchingoutintothedistance to your left. Then, undulating terrain follows as the race progresses towards the finishing line in St.Wolfgang. In theprogramme since 2005, this event, the 5.2km long Panorama Race, is enjoyedmainly on a personal level, because of its scenicbeauty–withanythoughtsofcompetitionseeminglylessimportant!

10KMSHORELINERACEIfthereweresuchathingasaclassicdistanceforanamateur“Enthusiastsrace”,theidealdistancefavouredbymillionsofrunnersworldwide,wouldbe10km.Since2003,thisdistancehasbeenincludedintheInternationalLakeWolfgangseeRaceprogrammeasthe „10km Shoreline Race”. The start of the 10km Shoreline Race is located at the Schiffsstation (boat jetty) in Gschwendt inAbersee– justunderahundredmetresawayas thecrow flies from the27kmstart inSt.Wolfgang (admittedlyon theoppositeshore!).Onthewaytothefinishinglinetherunnerpassesthroughawonderfulareaofnaturalbeautywhichis,inthemain,onflatterrain along the shoreline of LakeWolfgangsee. At 4.5km, the run passes through the spectator‐lined streets of Strobl beforetacklingoneortwolightascentsonthelastkilometresintoSt.Wolfgang.OnthefinishinglineinSt.Wolfgangeveryone,whetherfirst or last, is enthusiastically encouraged by themoderatorMr. HansWieser and themany spectators. Of course, all finishersreceivetheartisticallydesignedShorelineRacemedal.

27KMCLASSICRACESinceitsdebut,exactly42yearsagoonthe26thOctober,1972,theLakeWolfgangseeRacehascountedasoneofthemostscenicandmost loved races inEurope.More than55,000 runnershave takenpart in this special racewhichconnects theprovincesofUpperAustriaandSalzburg.TheclassicracehastakenplaceonthethirdSundayinOctobersince1977.Withitsbeautifullyscenicsections,along theshorebetweenthewaterandrock faces,and itsdelightfulpathways, this raceofferseverything the runner’sheartdesires.The27kmClassicRaceisthelargestcompetitionofthewholeevent.

Formanyrunners, the27kmlongLakeWolfgangseeraceconstitutestheultimatechallenge–almostcomparabletoaMarathon.Although“only”measuring64%of theclassicMarathondistanceof42.195km,the“invigorating”Falkenstein, (a220m‐high“hill”between3and6km)certainly contributes to thisdemanding raceand is the special challenge thatmakes theLakeWolfgangseeRaceunique.ThegoalofmakingitoncearoundLakeWolfgangseehasaspecialappealtothousandsofrunners.Top‐classrunnerstakelessthan90minutes.Runningenthusiastsandthosewhorunasahobbytakebetweentwoandfourandahalfhours.AtthefinishinglineinSt.Wolfgang,just100mawayfromtheWeissenRössl(WhiteHorseInn),everyonewhoaccomplishesthischallengeisawinnerand,formostpeople,theartisticallydesigned27kmFinisher’sMedalisparticularlyspecial!

Onthe19thOctober,2014,Austria’sgreatestscenicraceexperiencetakesplaceforthe43rdtime.Onceagaineachparticipantisinforarealrunningtreatasautumn’sgoldenhuessettleoverLakeWolfgangseeelevatingthisspecialsportingexperiencetoanaturalwonder.

TheracearoundLakeWolfgangseeis,ofcourse,attractiveathleticallybutitalsohasculturalappeal.WhenrunningontheoldestpilgrimagerouteinEurope,variouspre‐christianplacesofworshipcanbeseenontheascenttotheFalkensteinchurch.OnthetopoftheFalkensteinmountaintherewasonceaCelticplaceofritualandsacrificewhere,in975ADSt.Wolfgang,themanoflegendand founder of the town, lived as a recluse. To succeed in running once around LakeWolfgangsee is therefore something veryspecial.

TEAM‐MARATHONThreesome‐Team Competition for families, friends, firms, institutions and associations. In 2009, through the adding together ofthreecoursedistances,(5.2+10+27km=42.2km)anewandexcitingcompetitionwascreated.Oftencalled„thespeedythree”,thisrace isrunoverthetotalMarathondistanceof42.2km.Whenrun inthismanner,theMarathon,acknowledgedasthemostprestigious race of all long‐distance challenges, is a really special experience, even for Lake Wolfgangsee race regulars. Youradditional registration for theTeam‐Marathon isaspecialserviceprovidedbythepromoter,andtherefore freeofcharge. AscenicMarathontoenjoy!AfterthegreatsuccessoftheSalzkammergutMarathonin2011,2012and2013,thisuniquechallengeovertheclassic42.195kmdistanceis intheLakeWolfgangseeraceprogrammeagain.Aspecialmarathon,andscenicexperience,awaitsallentrants.TheMarathonstarts in thecentreof the Imperial townofBad Ischl, in frontof the„Trinkhalle”building.Thecourse leads through Pfandl,Wirling (refreshment point) to the Bürglstein guesthouse and then joins the original course of the27kmClassicbeforecontinuingonthroughSt.Wolfgang(refreshmentpoint).Betweenkms18and21thespecialchallengeoftheFalkenstein cliff awaits, over which the runners climb to 220m before coming back down again. Stunning scenic sections ondelightfulpathsalongtheshoreline,betweenwaterandrockfaces,offereverythingtherunner’sheartdesiresand,afterpassingthroughSt.Gilgen,GschwendtandStrobl, theMarathonheads towards the finishing line in St.Wolfgang. Theparticipantswereunanimous–„Acracking,firstclassmarathon.”Pleasenote:Duringthefirstpartofthemarathon(untiltheBürglsteinguesthouse),the course is only partly closed to other road users.
