THE ANTIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST - JUNE 24, 2018 Today’s Gospel Reflection: Luke 1:57-66, 80

JOHN THE BAPTIST Since June 24 falls on a Sunday this year, the Church has the opportunity for a more intense cele-bration of the birth of John the Baptist, who is often described as the last of the Old Testament prophets and the bridge between Judaism and Christianity. More commonly, John is known as the “precursor” of our Lord Jesus Christ. All the Gospels report John’s basic message: Repent, the kingdom is near at hand. One greater than I is coming. Though he was a wandering preacher who dressed in camel skins and ate grasshoppers, John’s legacy is one of true royalty. His origins are similar to those foretold by God through the prophet Isaiah: “You are my servant, he said to me, Israel through whom I show my glory” (Isaiah 49:3). THE NATIVITY OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST

T his saint was highly honored through-out the whole Church from the begin-

ning. Proof of this is, among other things, the fact that fifteen churches were dedi-cated to him in the ancient imperial city of Constantinople. Being the precursor of our Lord, he was accorded the same honor as the first great saints of the Christian era, although he belonged to the Old Covenant. The fact that Christ praised him so highly (Matthew 11, 11) encouraged, of course, a special veneration.

Accordingly, the Church celebrates his natural birth by a festi-val of his “nativity,” assigned exactly six months before the nativity of Christ, since John was six months older than the Lord. As soon as the Feast of Christmas was established on December 25 (in the fifth century) the date of the Baptist's birth was assigned to June 24. The Baptist is patron of tailors (because he made his own garments in the desert), of shepherds (because he spoke of the “Lamb of God”).

Reflexión al Evangelio de hoy: Lucas 1,57-66, 80 JUAN EL BAUTISTA

Ya que el 24 de junio de este año cae en domingo, la Iglesia tiene la oportunidad para una celebra-ción más vibrante del nacimiento de Juan el Bautista, a quien se le describe como el último de los profetas del Antiguo Testamento y también como el puente entre el judaísmo y el cristianismo. Comúnmente a Juan se le conoce como el “precursor” de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Todos los evangelios narran el mensaje bási-co de Juan: Arrepiéntanse, el Reino de Dios está cerca. Uno más grande que yo está cerca. Aunque él era un predicador itinerante, vestido con piel de camello, que comía saltamontes; el le-gado de Juan es uno de verdadera realeza. Sus orígenes son parecidos a aquellos anunciados por Dios por medio del profeta Isaías “Tú eres mi siervo, Israel; en ti manifestaré mi gloria”. NATIVIDAD DE SAN JUAN BAUTISTA

L a Iglesia celebra el nacimiento de Juan co-mo algo sagrado y él es el único de los san-

tos cuyo nacimiento se festeja; celebramos el nacimiento de Juan y el de Cristo. Ello no deja de tener su significado, y, si nues-tras explicaciones no alcanzaran a estar a la altura de misterio tan elevado, no hemos de perdonar esfuerzo para profundizarlo, y sacar provecho de él. Juan viene a ser como la línea divisoria entre los dos Testamentos, el antiguo

y el nuevo. Así lo atestigua el mismo Señor, cuando dice: La ley y los profetas llegaron hasta Juan. Por tanto, él es como la personificación de lo antiguo y el anuncio de lo nuevo. Pidamos a San Juan Bautista que conceda a nues-tra familia el don de la alegría espiritual y guie las acciones de nuestros hijos a la salvación.

E l icono original está en el altar mayor de la Iglesia de San Alfonso, muy cerca de la Basíli-

ca de Santa María la Mayor en Roma. El icono de la Virgen, pintado sobre ma-dera, de 21 por 17 pulgadas, muestra a la Madre con el Niño Jesús. El Niño observa a dos ángeles que le muestran los instrumentos de su futura pa-

sión. Se agarra fuerte con las dos manos de su Madre Santísima quien lo sostiene en sus brazos. El cuadro nos recuerda la materni-dad divina de la Virgen y su cuidado por Jesús desde su concep-ción hasta su muerte. Esta bella imagen de la Virgen nos recuerda el centralismo salvífico de la pasión de Cristo y de María y al mismo tiempo la socorredora bondad de la Madre de Dios y nuestra.

¿Qué es el FPS? La mayoría de los filtros solares con un FPS de 15 o mayor, hacen un excelente trabajo de protección contra los rayos UVB. FPS (Factor de Protección Solar) es la medida de capacidad que tiene un bloqueador solar para evitar que los rayos UVB dañen la piel. Chúa Nhật Mừng Sinh Nhật Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả

Anh chị em thân mến,

Ngày sinh nhật của Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả rất quan trọng đối với Giáo Hội Công Giáo. Quan trọng đến nỗi ngày lễ mừng sinh nhật của Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả được thay thế lễ ngày Chúa Nhật. Bình thường lễ của một vị thánh nào trùng với ngày Chúa Nhật thì sẽ bị mất ngày lễ kính trong năm đó, nhưng lễ sinh nhật mừng kính Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả vào ngày 24 tháng 6 trùng ngày Chúa Nhật năm nay, lại được Giáo Hội mừng lễ, vì vai trò của ngài là đi trước mở đường cho Đấng Cứu Thế. Có thể nói rằng việc Chúa Giêsu xuống thế làm người, và việc Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả sinh ra không thể thiếu nhau. “Này Ta sai sứ giả của Ta đến dọn đường trước mặt Ta. Và bỗng nhiên Chúa Thượng mà các ngươi tìm kiếm, đi vào Thánh Điện của Người. Kìa, vị sứ giả của giao ước mà các ngươi đợi trông đang đến, - ĐỨC CHÚA các đạo binh phán” (Malakhi 3,1).

Hỏi: Làm sao bà Elisabeth biết được là phải đặt tên con trẻ là Gioan?

Thưa: Có lẽ Bà Elisabeth được ông Dacaria viết kể lại thị kiến của Thiên Sứ với ông trong Đền Thánh, vì thị kiến này có liên quan đến cả hai vợ chồng Ông Bà, hoặc Thiên Sứ đến báo tin cho Bà nhưng vì Kinh Thánh không nhắc tới nên có thể là do Ông Dacaria báo tin cho Bà Elisabeth.

Hỏi: Làm sao ông Dacaria biết được là phải đặt tên con trẻ là Gioan?

Thưa: Thiên Chúa mặc khải và sai Thiên Thần hiện ra với ông Dacaria và báo tin cho Ông biết. “Sứ thần bảo ông: "Này ông Da-ca-ri-a, đừng sợ, vì Thiên Chúa đã nhận lời ông cầu xin: bà Ê-li-sa-bét vợ ông sẽ sinh cho ông một đứa con trai, và ông phải đặt tên cho con là Gio-an (Lc 1,13).

Hỏi: Tại sao ông Dacaria bị câm? Qua biến cố này Chúa muốn dạy ta sự gì?

Thưa: Chính vì ông không tin lời Thiên Sứ nói nên bị phạt câm. “Này đây ông sẽ bị câm, không nói được, cho đến ngày các điều ấy xảy ra, bởi vì ông đã không tin lời tôi, là những lời sẽ được ứng nghiệm đúng thời đúng buổi" (Lc 1,20). Qua biến cố này Thiên Chúa muốn dạy cho chúng ta một bài học là Lời Chúa là Sự Thật, tất cả Lời Chúa hứa trong Kinh Thánh phải được ứng nghiệm vì Thiên Chúa là Đấng trung tín đáng tin cậy. Kẻ không tin, bị phạt nhẹ như Dacaria thì bị câm, và phạt nặng thì bị chết, vì kẻ không tin thì không được ơn làm con cái Thiên Chúa để được sống đời đời.

Hỏi: Tại sao ông Gioan phải sống trong hoang địa mà không sống như những người bình thường khác?

Thưa: Vì để ứng nghiệm Lời Kinh Thánh. “Này Ta sai sứ giả của Ta đi trước mặt Con, người sẽ dọn đường cho Con. Có tiếng người hô trong hoang địa: Hãy dọn sẵn con đường của Đức Chúa, sửa lối cho thẳng để Người đi”(Mc 1,2). Ông Gioan Tẩy Giả loan báo ngày cứu chuộc đã gần kề. Mọi người hãy ăn năn sám hối. Ông ra hoang địa để sống hầu thi hành Thánh Ý của Thiên Chúa.

Hỏi: Ông Gioan có tự do chọn lựa để loan báo về Đấng Cứu Thế hay ông đã được tiền định sinh ra để làm như thế?

Thưa: Ông Gioan có tự do chọn lựa để thi hành Thánh Ý Chúa hay không thi hành, vì tất cả những ai theo Chúa đều có tự do. Họ có thể chọn theo Chúa hay bỏ Chúa bất cứ lúc nào, nên con người ta mới có tự do phạm tội mất lòng Chúa, và cũng có những vị thánh chọn vâng lời theo Thánh Ý Thiên Chúa như Đức Mẹ Maria và Thánh Cả Giuse, cũng như Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả vậy. Điều duy nhất tiền định là loài người được làm con cái Thiên Chúa và được hưởng nước trời, nhưng con người ta có tự do từ chối ơn cứu chuộc của Chúa Giêsu Kitô.

Hỏi: Tại sao Thiên Chúa lại cần Gioan đi trước để dọn đường cho Ngài và loan báo về hồng ân ngày cứu độ?

Thưa: Vì Chúa Giêsu Kitô là Thiên Chúa và là Vua Vũ Trụ. Chính vì Ngài là Vua nên phải có người đi trước mở đường báo tin rầm rộ cho nhiều người biết tin. Trên trời các thiên thần loan tin thì ở dưới đất cũng cần Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả dọn đường cho Chúa đên.

Tóm lại, việc Thánh Gioan Tẩy Giả đã đến trước mở đường cho Đấng Kitô, Ngài thi hành nghi thức đón tiếp Vua của Vũ Trụ và loan báo cho mọi người biết về giờ Thiên Chúa đến viếng thăm nhân loại, nên ngày sinh nhật của ông và công cuộc cứu chuộc của Chúa Giêsu được gắn liền với nhau nên một. Giáo Hội được Thiên Chúa cứu chuộc nên không thể thiếu ông được. Ông Thánh Gioan quả thật có phúc, và chúng ta cũng vậy nếu chúng ta biết vâng nghe lời Chúa. Nguyện xin Chúa ban bình an cho ông bà và anh chị em luôn mãi.

Lời Chúa : Khi đến ngày sinh, bà Êlisabeth sinh hạ một con trai. Láng giềng bà con nghe biết Chúa đã tỏ lòng nhân hậu lớn lao đối với bà liền đến chúc mừng bà. Ngày thứ tám, người ta đến làm phép cắt bì cho con trẻ, và họ lấy tên Dacaria của cha nó mà đặt cho nó. Nhưng bà mẹ đáp lại rằng: "Không được, nó sẽ gọi tên là Gioan". Họ bảo bà rằng: "Không ai trong họ hàng bà có tên đó". Và họ làm hiệu hỏi cha con trẻ muốn gọi tên gì. Ông xin một tấm bảng và viết: "Tên nó là Gioan". Và mọi người đều bỡ ngỡ. Bỗng chốc lưỡi ông mở ra, và ông liền chúc tụng Chúa. Mọi người lân cận đều kinh hãi. Và trên khắp miền núi xứ Giuđêa, người ta loan truyền mọi việc đó. Hết thảy những ai nghe biết đều để bụng nghĩ rằng: "Con trẻ này rồi sẽ nên thế nào? Vì quả thực, bàn tay Chúa đã ở với nó". Con trẻ lớn lên, mạnh mẽ trong lòng: nó ở trong hoang địa cho đến ngày tỏ

mình ra cùng dân Israel (Lc 1,57-66.80).

LỜI TẠ ƠN CHÚA và CÁM ƠN CỘNG ĐOÀN

Quý Ông bà và Anh chị em thân mến,

Trước hết tôi xin cảm tạ Thiên Chúa đã ban cho tôi cơ hội để phục vụ dân Chúa qua thiên chức linh mục tại Giáo Xứ St. Maria Goretti. Chúa đã mở mắt để tôi thấy được rằng quý ông bà và anh chị em thật khao khát Ơn Chúa qua các Bí Tích và có lòng thành tâm tìm kiếm Chúa. Nhờ Ơn Chúa trợ giúp, qua lời cầu bầu của Mẹ Maria và Thánh Gioan Vianney, cũng như lời cầu nguyện của nhiều người, tôi đã dấn thân thi hành Thánh Ý Chúa trong niềm tín thác tuyệt đối vào Thiên Chúa, hy sinh phục vụ cho quý ông bà và anh chị em trong hai năm qua.

Tuy bước đầu có vài thay đổi làm một số người không hiểu nên đã gây xáo trộn, nhưng cuối cùng Thánh Ý Chúa đã được nên trọn nơi giáo xứ này là : Cung thánh và bàn thờ của Chúa đã được sáng sủa, các ca đoàn đã phục vụ Chúa trong trật tự và hát lễ sốt sắng, các em giúp lễ và các Thừa Tác Viên đã được huấn luyện đầy đủ để phục vụ trong tinh thần yêu mến. Tất cả mọi thay đổi trên đã giúp cho Thánh Lễ được sốt sắng. Ngoài ra, các Hội Đoàn đã được học hỏi và có người lãnh đạo tốt lành. Các Ban Phụng Vụ đã đi vào nề nếp và phân chia công bằng để mọi người đều có cơ hội phục vụ như nhau. Đặc biệt là âm mưu của ma quỷ muốn tiêu hủy đức tin của các em trẻ nơi xứ đạo này đã bị phá vỡ, điển hình là qua nhiều năm vẫn tiếp tục dạy Giáo Lý cho các em bằng ngôn ngữ các em không thể hiểu được, cho nên hậu quả là các em không được hiểu biết nhiều về Thiên Chúa để yêu mến, thậm chí các em từ sau khi xưng tội lần đầu đến khi làm TA cũng không thuộc kinh Ăn Năn tội và những kinh căn bản trong đạo, tệ hơn là sau khi Thêm sức là bỏ đạo không muốn đến nhà thờ nữa.

Tạ Ơn Chúa, bây giờ hầu hết các em đã thuộc kinh Ăn Năn Tội, và trong năm học vào tháng 9 này, các em Giáo Lý sẽ có các Thầy Cô đã được huấn luyện dạy Giáo Lý cho các em bằng hai ngôn ngữ, giúp các em hiểu biết về Chúa và giữ đạo cho nên. Nhiều người bỏ đạo lâu năm, 30 năm, 25 năm, 20 chục năm và 10 năm thì rất nhiều, đã trở về với Chúa qua Bí Tích Hòa Giải, Tất cả mọi thay đổi tốt lành là hồng ân của Chúa cho giáo xứ chúng ta. Tôi hy vọng rằng các ông bà và anh chị em tiếp tục cầu nguyện thật nhiều, siêng năng lãnh nhận các Bí Tích, Chầu Thánh Thể, tham dự Thánh Lễ Misa, và lần hạt Mân Côi, giáo xứ sẽ tiếp tục lãnh nhận nhiều Ơn lành của Chúa, và ngày một thăng tiến trên đường trọn lành.

Cho dù phục vụ ở đâu, tôi cũng sẽ nhớ đến và cầu nguyện cho cả giáo xứ. Tôi tặng lại cho giáo xứ Hào Quang Mặt Nhật Thánh Thể mà chúng ta Chầu Chúa trong hai năm qua vào các chiều thứ năm và thứ sáu hằng tuần. Mỗi khi chầu Thánh Thể, xin quý ông bà anh chị em nhớ đến và cầu nguyện cho tôi được khỏe mạnh và luôn dấn thân chu toàn Thánh Ý Chúa. Tôi chân thành cám ơn tất cả mọi người trong các hội đoàn, ca đoàn, ban Phụng Vụ, các bậc ông bà cha mẹ, và một số người nhiệt thành, đã hăng say cùng tôi xây dựng nhà Chúa, và Đền Thờ Thánh Thần nơi các em trong hai năm qua.

Xin Chúa chúc phúc lành cho tất cả quý ông bà và anh chị em trong toàn giáo xứ, để mọi người biết đoàn kết và yêu thương cùng nhau xây dựng một giáo xứ đạo đức thánh thiện. Thân ái chào tất cả mọi người trong Chúa Kitô và Mẹ Maria.

THÁNH LỄ & TIỆC TRÀ TỪ GIÃ

Vào thứ Năm, ngày 28/06/2018, lúc 6:00 PM, giáo xứ chúng ta sẽ có thánh lễ từ giã đa ngôn ngữ và buổi gặp mặt sau thánh lễ tại hội trường Sullivan, để cám ơn và giã từ quý cha Francisco Miramontes, cha John Offor, cha Anthony Nguyễn Duy Tường và sơ Bernadette Hoàng Yến, sau quãng thời gian phục vụ đắc lực cho giáo xứ.

HỘI CHỢ GIÁO XỨ ST. MARIA GORETTI

Hội Chợ hàng năm của Giáo Xứ St. Maria Goretti sẽ được tổ chức ngày 6, 7, và 8 tháng 7 năm 2018. Vé Raffle Ticket được bán tại văn phòng Giáo Xứ với giải trúng độc đắc là $10,000, giải trúng thứ nhất là $1,000. Giải trúng thứ hai là $500 và giải trúng thứ ba là $250. Giá vé Raffle là $5 cho mỗi vé nếu mua lẻ từng vé. Nếu mua nguyên một cuốn $20 thì gồm được 5 vé. Xin mọi người ủng hộ trước là để chung vui và sau là xây dựng cộng đoàn dân Chúa tại Giáo Xứ St. Maria Goretti.
