SISTER HAROLD ANN JONES, SC, age 95, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on April 10. A native of Altoona, Sister Harold Ann entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill on September 8, 1940, from Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament Parish, Altoona. Preceded in death by her parents, Harold J. and Anne (White) Jones, a brother, H. James Jones, and sisters, Mrs. Nancy (Charles) Rowan and Mrs. Patricia (Otto) Breite. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English, history, music from Seton Hill University and a master’s degree in ad-ministration from Duquesne University. Sister Har-old Ann was a teacher and administrator in schools of the Greensburg, Pittsburgh, Lafayette, and Tucson dioceses. She also ministered as a catechist and social service worker at Immaculate Conception Parish in Ajo, Arizona, 1950-1954. She taught at St. Paul School, Carbon, 1954-1956, and served as principal at St. Bruno School in South Greensburg 1956-1962. Her longest tenure, 1983-1995, was as principal of St. John the Evangelist School in Tucson. In 1994, Sister Harold Ann received the Seton Award from Salpointe High School in Tucson, in recognition of the “deep faith, courage, initiative and zeal” exhibit-ed in her advancement of Catholic education. Be-tween 1978 and 1983, Sister Harold Ann was admin-istrator of Assumption Hall, the former retirement home of the sisters and from 1999 until 2004 she was the supervisor of Elizabeth Ann Hall at Caritas Chris-ti. During her retirement, she continued to volunteer her services where needed. Energetic and outgoing, Sister Harold Ann took to heart the words of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, “When so rich a harvest is before us, why do we not gather it? All is in our hands, if we will but use it.”

A note for you: I believe that we all are preoccupied at times about our physical health. We go to doctors. We look for remedies for sicknesses. We ask God to cure us. Some do exercise. Some avoid eating foods that can do harm. We are constantly looking for ways to maintain our bodily health. All this is good. None wants to suffer or feel bad. We all want to be able to enjoy our life here. God did not give us life in order to suffer. We also have an obligation to take care of our health and to avoid as much as we can those things that can harm our lives. When we are sick we should go a doctor and look for medicine. To mistreat or disre-gard your health is a sin against the commandment “you should not kill”. Even though this is all true, we need to be careful to not get so preoc-cupied with our physical health that we forget about spiritual health. Spiritual health is actually much more important than physical health. Our bodies will die someday. Our souls will never die. But what is “spiritual health”? Spiritual health means having an inti-mate friendship with God. Spiritual health means avoiding what of-fends God. Spiritual health means trying to live as Jesus, the Son of God teaches us. Spiritual health means having the confidence to ask God for what we need or want. Spiritual health is talking to God about our joys and difficulties. Spiritual health means putting our life com-pletely in the hands of God trusting that whatever he does is for our good, because he loves us. This spiritual health is more important than physical health. It lasts forever and leads to happiness forever. But do we see it that way? Do we make more efforts looking for spiritual health than for physical health? All of this depends on what we value more.

Nuestros cuerpos van a morir algún día. Nuestras almas no van a morir nunca.
