My Dear Parishioners,

Just two days ago, we celebrated the Mystery of the Incarnation, when the Divine Word became flesh in the person of the Baby Jesus. Today, on the Feast of the Holy Family, we celebrate how the Word became flesh, the same way you and I come into the world: by being born into a family.

Jesus' coming into the world as the Son of Mary and his foster father Joseph shows that family is an important build-ing block in the Church, and in the world. Though the life of any family includes challenges and stress, the life of the Holy Family encourages us to invest ourselves in the relation-ships that make up family life. Just as Jesus' life with Joseph and Mary helped to shape the man He grew into, our family forms us. The ups and downs of family life gives us the op-portunities to learn how to love and forgive, qualities we will need to carry into adulthood, if we hope to have a happy and good life. One of the values that families struggle with is teaching their children, especially their teenagers, values and morals relative to their sexuality. Pope St. John Paul II delivered a profoundly beautiful vision of human sexuality, that he called "The Theology of the Body." It has revolutionized the way parents and educators teach morality and chastity to their teens, as it provides the "whys" behind the "what's," paving the way to true freedom and happiness. I am very pleased to announce that our Youth Ministry, led by Maritza Carmona-Kelly, is offering a program based on John Paul II's vision, called "Theology of the Body - Discovering God's Plan for Love and Life." It is our hope that this curriculum will pro-vide our teenagers the knowledge and understanding they need concerning the meaning and purpose of their sexuality, and of their very existence. Please look at the full page notice in to-day's bulletin, on page 6. Maritza, our Youth Minister, will be teaching Theology of the Body for Teens starting Wednesday, January 5. A parent information session is crucial to the program. I encourage all parents of teens to contact Maritza, should you have questions, and to schedule a time to view the parent overview DVD. So many Catholic parents have asked for help in talking to their teens about sex. It is hard to find the right words at times, but not impossible. This program can help that happen. I thank Maritza for offering the program, and I hope many will take advantage of this golden opportunity, while their children are still under their care, to give them an essential building - block in their family, for their future happiness. May God Bless You,

Adoration Chapel Altar Candle Dedication Dec. 28, 2015 to Jan. 3, 2016 For Tony, Mary Ann & Frank Jezak

Req. by Marie Lis Dedications are available for 2016! Just come into the

Parish Office. Candle dedications are a $30 donation for the week.

Remember The Deceased Joseph Sellers

We are united in prayer with their families and with one another as we and all the faithful departed await our rising with

the Lord.

Scripture Readings The Epiphany of the Lord January 3, 2016 Isaiah 60: 1-6 Psalm 72 Ephesians 3: 2-3a, 5-6 Matthew 2: 1-12 The Psalm refrain expresses the essence of the celebra-tion: “Lord, every nation on earth will adore you.” From Isaiah’s vision of a world beating a path to God’s door, to Saint Paul’s inclusion of Gentiles as copartners in the prom-ise of Christ Jesus, to the appearance of magi from the East, we celebrate God’s salvation for all people. As we listen to these readings, let us be mindful of the places in the world that desperately need to hear God’s saving message.

2016 Calendars Available In honor of his historic visit to the United States, this year’s Liturgical Calendar focuses on Pope Francis and the Domestic Church. We thank the Joseph Fluehr III Funeral Home for providing our families with this calendar. Please take one home with you today, and in the com-ing weeks, leading up to the New Year.

Octave Day of Christmas Vigil Mass Thursday Dec. 31, 2015: 5:30 p.m. Masses Friday Jan. 1, 2016: 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m.

Scripture Readings: Numbers 6: 22-27 Psalm 67 Galatians 4: 4-7 Luke 2: 16-21 The readings lead us to continue to marvel at God’s wonder-ful love for us this Christmas season. In the gospel we see ele-ments of Jesus’ divinity in the message of the angels and ele-ments of his humanity in the loving care that Mary gives him. Along with our Blessed Mother Mary, we can reflect in our hearts on our great loving God, whose Spirit in us causes us to cry out, “Abba, Father!”

Dear Parishioners,

As I write this column I can hear the church bells tolling from a funeral. Really makes one aware of the time we have here on earth and all of it (brief or lengthy) is a gift from God. We have done nothing to deserve it, earn it, or purchase it. Like the air we breathe, time comes to us as a part of life. The gift of time is not ours alone. It is given equally to each person. Rich and poor, educated and ignorant, strong and weak - every man, woman and child has the same twenty-four hours each day. Another important thing about time is that you cannot stop it. There is no way to slow it down, turn it off, or adjust it. Time marches on. . . And you cannot bring time back. Once it is gone, it is gone. Yesterday is lost forever. Obviously, time is one of our most precious possessions. We can waste it. We can worry over it. We can spend it on ourselves. Or, as good stewards, we can invest it in the King-dom of God and renew our allegiance to Him who said, "Behold, I make all things new." The New Year is full of time. As the seconds tick away, will you be tossing time out the window, or will you make every minute count? Let us keep each other in prayer. God Bless,

Blatantly Inconsistent Do you see the problem? On the one hand, 74% of the states in America have laws defending the unborn, at some stage of gestation, against acts of violence. These states declare it an act of homicide if the child is killed. Twenty-one of these states consider a non-fatal attack on the unborn a criminal of-fense. Fully half of the states also have passed Born Alive In-fant Protection Acts, requiring that physicians treat an infant that is born alive at any stage of development. These are but a few of the many laws that protect the un-born and treat them as human beings with “inalienable rights.” Yet, at the same time, if the mother chooses, abortion is con-sidered an acceptable means of “terminating a pregnancy.” It is inconsistent to condition the value of life upon the sub-jective opinion of another person. If the child is killed when the mother intended to keep it, it is considered homicide and the perpetrator is a criminal. If the child is terminated when the mother does not intend to keep it, the abortionist in question is honored and no one (except us pro-lifers) bats an eye.
