NOTICES FOR THE BULLETIN (SUBJECT TO SPACE AVAILABILITY)
MUST BE AT THE RECTORY BY MONDAY, 12:00 NOON.

My Dear Parishioners,
As I write this weekly column, the
noise of construction equipment is not
far from my window. When you arrived
on the parish grounds, you probably no-
ticed the progress that has already
been made in patching cracks and re-
sealing major portions of our parking
lot. Hopefully by this weekend, all parking spaces will
have been re-striped, and as a result, will now include
several larger spaces. Unfortunately, because the town-
ship requires a certain amount of parking spots, not all of
our spaces could be enlarged. We hope those with larger
vehicles will find the new spaces more convenient and
comfortable.
Out of concern for the safety of pedestrians, a few
raised surface elevations have been added to the drive-
way, left of the church, to force motorists to slow down in
that area. This is particularly important now that we have
our pre-kindergarten on campus, with little children sev-
eral times a week travelling from the St. Francis Center to
the school.
The final phase of our summer parking lot project will
be the addition of new poles, with additional and better
lighting for the driveway and parking area near the Drexel
Center. These should be installed by the end of the sum-
mer. I thank you for your continued generosity, which
allows all of this to happen. At the same time, I applaud
the members of our Building and Grounds Committee,
and in particular Cas Ilenda, who guided the project each
day to a successful conclusion.
I realize, especially by the lighter attendance at Sunday
Mass these past few weeks, that we are still at the high
point of summer vacations. Having recently enjoyed two
weeks away at the seashore myself, I know how important
a vacation is to relax and renew your energy. However,
since we never take a vacation from God, I once again
urge you to plan ahead to know when and where Sunday
Mass will be available to you. If you are not sure, you are
encouraged to access MassTimes.org, or call the rectory
and one of us will be able to assist you.
May these remaining weeks of summer be times of
peace and joy for you and your family!
May God Bless You,
St. Bede 103 August 7, 2016

Scripture Readings
Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 14, 2016 Jeremiah 38: 4-6, 8-10
Psalm 40
Hebrews 12: 1-4
Luke 12: 49-53 This Gospel is a difficult one, because Jesus says that He
has come to bring not peace, but division. Jeremiah too was
accused of demoralizing the people. What could possibly be
the good news in these readings? Perhaps the answer is in
today’s passage from the Letter to the Hebrews. Just as Jesus
persevered through His Passion and cross and is now glori-
fied, so we who follow Christ will see our reward even
through our witness may cause division as well.

What's New This Year?
“Adam and the NewHearts”
In our quest to bring something new to the Parish Picnic,
the Picnic Committee has arranged for an oldies band to per-
form this year. (While they will not be with us this year, we
appreciate the ten years of entertainment provided by the Verdi
Band, and look forward to their participation at other parish
events.)
Adam and the NewHearts (above) is a five piece band that
plays Rock 'n' Roll from the 50's and 60's. The committee
thought this was something many would enjoy. You can see a
preview at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JS34VbInLDw

Pro Life Bill Passes PA House House Bill 1948 updates Pennsylvania’s laws to be in line
with the will of most Americans as well as medical advance-
ments that reveal the baby’s ability to feel pain and live outside
the womb. And it passed the House by a vote of 132 to 65.
Specifically, House Hill 1948 bans dismemberment abor-
tion, which ends the life of the unborn baby by tearing off one
limb at a time and increases the risk of injury to the mother, is
used in over 1,500 abortions in Pennsylvania each year. It also
bans abortions after 20 weeks, when the baby can feel pain and
risks to the health of the mother increase significantly.
The legislation now heads to the Senate, where a similar
bill, Senate Bill 888, has also been introduced.
“This vote clearly indicates that the vast majority of Penn-
sylvania’s representatives are committed to protecting unborn
children. We thank them for this important vote that upholds
the dignity of of all human life,” said Fran Viglietta, Director
of Social Concerns.

Corrections
Our listing last week of recent Mass Enrollments incorrectly stated
that the enrollment of Francis Mulholland (from Helen Barrett &
family) was for 25 years. In fact, the enrollment is perpetual.
Also, the Mass Enrollment for Rosemary Brinkos (from the
Schlenker family) was marked as “deceased,” when Mrs. Brikos is,
thankfully, still with us.
We apologize for the errors.
