My Dear Parishioners,
"We saw His star at its rising, and
have come to give Him homage." This is
one of the verses for this weekend's cele-
bration of the Epiphany, that is the Man-
ifestation of Our Lord to the Gentiles.
The explanation of the Three Magi
seems so simple and straightforward.
But like most aspects of our salvation history, there is
more to the story.
The star was there for all to see, but only those who
were open to its meaning were blessed with seeing who
and what it represented. The account of the magi helps us
see that Jesus was born to be more than the King of the
Jews. Jesus came to draw all people to Himself, and to
redeem all of humankind. The mission of Jesus and His
Church has no political or geographical boundaries, as we
heard so eloquently in this weekend's second reading of
St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians.
Today, as we come to this final piece of the Christmas
Story, let us thank God for all God has done to open the
doors of Heaven for us. His love knows no boundaries.
Even our sin, and our turning away from Him cannot sep-
arate us. God constantly places stars before us, beckoning
us to come to Him, and to return home.
This Holy Year of Mercy, declared by Pope Francis,
is one of those stars. It announces the year in which God,
in his special way, is calling us to experience his mercy,
and to give that mercy to those whose injustice or mean-
ness have created a boundary between us and them. No
sin is so great that God cannot forgive and forget it. Dur-
ing this Year of Mercy, may we be given the Divine
Grace to do what our human nature has no power to do,
namely to bestow mercy on others.
Let us do our part in announcing that Good News to
those who have not yet seen the light. Let the Love of
God shine on us, and like the Star of Bethlehem, lead oth-
ers to Jesus.
In next week's bulletin, I will announce the date of a
special meeting when we can, as a parish, plan events and
devotions that will help us appropriately celebrate this
Jubilee Year of Mercy in our community.
Have a Blessed and Happy New Year!

Isaiah 40: 1-5, 9-11 or 42: 1-4, 6-7

Titus 2: 11-14, 3: 4-7 or Acts 10: 34-38
Luke 3: 15-16, 21-22 In the Gospel, Jesus is at prayer after His baptism when
the Holy Spirit descends on Him and the Father’s voice is
heard. This Spirit-anointing launches Jesus on His ministry;
in the same way, you and I are launched on our ministry by
our baptism and confirmation. As Saint Paul tells Titus, the
Spirit was poured out on us through Christ that we might be
heirs in hope of eternal life. Let us listen for God’s call to us
in the Holy Scriptures.

take the test as well as those who were absent because of ill-
ness. We will publish the top scores in the bulletin and award
prizes during the January 31 & February 1 CCD sessions. It is
now our tradition to have our top scoring candidates, as a spe-
cial honor, crown the Blessed Mother and participate in an
honor court during our May procession and prayer service
(Monday - May 9th, 5:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.).

Resolution for 2016 Jesus was born into a harsh world, where Herod was
doing the unthinkable: killing babies.
Is there any doubt that our world today needs Jesus to
come and dwell among us?
As a new year begins, let us resolve to be a more ef-
fective and dedicated instrument of Jesus. Let us do more
to promote love and peace. Let us do more to help moms
turn the unplanned into a loving plan that embraces inno-
cent life.
Let us do more to change our culture of death.
A Note of Thanks The Greeters Ministry would like to extend our thanks to all
the parishioners who helped out for the Masses on Christmas
Eve and Christmas Day. With the combination of the extra
Masses and people’s travel plans over Christmas, we really
needed the extra help. We wish everyone a blessed new year!

Padre Pio Festival Meeting Tuesday Jan. 5 at 7pm
In the Drexel Center
As you can see on the full page announcement on page 6
of today's Parish Bulletin, we have begun to plan for our first
ever Padre Pio Festival. This spiritual and cultural festival is
being led by the Knights of Columbus. But because it is ex-
pected to be such a large event, drawing many pilgrims from
all over the area, we will need the help of many people.
A second organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday
Jan. 5, at 7pm in the Drexel Center. Come and find out
what has been planned so far, and how you can help, and per-
haps offer your ideas and talents. Saint Padre Pio is known
and loved by many Catholics throughout the world. Many in
our own parish have their personal stories of his intercession.
Come and let us help spread his story of faithfulness to Jesus,
and experience his powerful help from heaven.
Knights Help With Christmas Tree Set-up & Decoration
The beautiful trees on our altar this Christmas season were set up and decorated by our St. Bede Knights of Columbus Council. Thanks to the Knights for their help with the trees, and for all they do for our parish throughout the year.
