PASTOR’S PERSPECTIVE Dear parishioners:

Once, just right after I preached a homily about complacency and passive living, a parishioner came to complain that there was no missalette in his pew. “And I’m not gonna look for it from another pew!” he added emphatically. Incredibly, the man knew exactly what to do, but he preferred to complain instead.

This Sunday is called Guadete Sunday. The word “gaudete” means “rejoice.” Some priests (myself included) wear rose-colored vestments this Sunday to emphasize its meaning. For the first two weeks of Advent, we have been focusing on repentance, for “the Lord is coming.” But beginning with this Sunday, the focus is shifted to a lighter mood, a more heightened sense of joyous anticipation, for “the Lord is near.”

Unfortunately, many Catholics will once again be so anxious about all the preparations they haven’t done or the ever-expanding list of presents they haven’t bought that they will miss the whole point of this “Sunday of Joy.” Isn’t it sad that we’re full of anxiety while celebrating the birth of the Prince of Peace?

Let us remind ourselves once again that Christmas is not about mere colored lights or tinsel gifts. Instead of fretting and complaining about every little thing, let us focus on the little Baby in the Manger, whose light will dispel the darkness of our hearts and minds.

We would like to thank everyone who prepared or participated to make our Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony last Sunday so enjoyable. The trees and wreaths will remain lit every night until January 8, 2017. Please feel free to decorate your trees and wreaths. Some trees are still available for

RECONCILIATION MONDAY

December 19th is called Reconciliation Monday in

our Diocese. On this special day, there will be priests hearing confessions in all the parishes of our diocese. All our parish priests will be hearing confessions in the Upper Church from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM that day. Please take this opportunity to spiritually prepare

for the great solemnity of Christmas.

CHRISTMAS MASS SCHEDULE Like previous years, on Christmas Eve, Saturday,

December 24, we will have a 5:00 PM Bilingual Family Mass (English and Spanish), and at 10:00 PM, we will have our trilingual Holy Night Mass (English, Spanish and Chinese). On Christmas Day, Sunday, December 25, our Masses will follow our regular Sunday schedule. Please make every effort to attend at least one of our Masses this Christmas.

HOLY FAMILY CELEBRATION

During the 10:30 AM Mass on Christmas Sunday, December 25, we will celebrate the traditional Nativity Mass in honor of the Holy Family. All parishioners are invited. We ask that parents dress their children up as shepherds and angels or in any traditional vestments of their respective countries. There will be refreshments in the Lower Church after Mass.

FEAST OF THE MAGI

To celebrate the Feast of the Magi, we will continue the tradition of giving presents to parishioners’ children, from infants to age 10, after the 10:30 AM Mass in the school auditorium (Kelly Hall) on January 8, 2017. Any parishioner who wishes to donate presents, please wrap them up nicely and indicate whether they are for a boy or a girl, for an infant or for a certain age. Presents can be dropped off at the rectory before December 31. Thank you!

LA PERSPECTIVA DEL PÁRROCO Queridos feligreses: Una vez, justo después de que yo predicara una homilía sobre la complacencia y la vida pasiva, un feligrés llegó a quejarse de que no había misal en su banco. “¡Y no voy a buscarlo en otro banco!” añadió enfáticamente. Increíblemente, el hombre sabía exactamente qué hacer, pero prefería quejarse. Este domingo se llama Domingo Gaudete. La palabra “gaudete” significa “regocijar”. Algunos sacerdotes (yo incluido) llevan vestimentas de color rosa este domingo para enfatizar su significado. Durante las primeras dos semanas de Adviento, hemos estado enfocándonos en el arrepentimiento para “el Señor viene”. Pero a partir de este domingo, el enfoque se traslada a un estado de ánimo más ligero, un sentido más elevado de anticipación gozosa, porque “el Señor esta cerca.” Desafortunadamente, muchos católicos volverán a sentirse tan ansiosos por todos los preparativos que no han hecho o por la lista de regalos que constantemente crese más larga y no han comprado, que se perderán todo el punto de este “Domingo de Alegría”. No es triste que estamos llenos de ansiedad al celebrar el nacimiento del Príncipe de la Paz? Recordemos una vez más que la Navidad no se trata de simples luces de colores o regalos de oropel. LOS ÁRBOLES Y CORONAS DE NAVIDAD Quisiéramos agradecer a todos los que prepararon o participaron para hacer nuestra Ceremonia de Iluminación del Árbol de Navidad el domingo pasado tan agradable. HORARIO DE MISAS DE NAVIDAD Al igual que en años anteriores, la víspera de Navidad, sábado 24 de diciembre, tendremos una Misa Bilingüe de 5:00 PM (Inglés y Español), y a las 10:00 PM, tendremos nuestra Misa Santa de la Noche trilingüe (inglés, español y chino). El día de Navidad, domingo, 25 de diciembre, nuestras misas seguirán nuestro horario regular del domingo. Por favor haga todo lo posible para asistir por lo menos a una de nuestras Misas esta Navidad.

CELEBRACIÓN DE LA SAGRADA FAMILIA El domingo de la Natividad, 25 de diciembre, en la Misa de las 10:30 AM se celebrara la tradicional Misa Navideña en honor a la Sagrada Familia, invitamos cordialmente a toda la comunidad a participar. Les pedimos a los padres de familia disfrazar a sus hijos/as de pastores, ángeles, cholitos/as, y toda vestimenta tradicional de sus respectivos países. Después de la Misa habrá refrigerio en la Iglesia de abajo.

FIESTA DE LOS REYES MAGOS Para celebrar la Fiesta de los Reyes Magos, continuaremos la tradición de donar regalos a nuestros niños desde infantes hasta los 10 años después de la Misa del 8 de enero 2017 en el auditorio de la escuela (Kelly Hall). Si puedan traer un regalo, por favor pedimos lo envuelvan y pongan una nota si es para niño/niña infante y la edad apropiada y tráiganlo a la rectoría en o antes del 31 de diciembre. Gracias.

神父的话 主爱的兄弟姐妹：

有一次，弥撒道理中我讲到高傲自满和被动的

生活。弥撒之后马上有一位教友过来向我抱怨说，

他跪凳的那一排没有弥撒用本，并且用很坚决的

语气说：“而且我绝对不从另外一排跪凳那里拿

过来用！”令人难以置信的是，这个人明明知道要

怎么做，他却选择了抱怨。

这个星期天被成为“喜乐主日”(Guadete

Sunday)，“guadete”这个词的意思是“喜乐”。

一些神父（我自己在内）在这个星期天的弥撒中穿

着粉色的祭衣来强调这个意思。在将临期的前两

个星期，我们的重点放在悔改，因为“主就要来

了”，但是从这个星期天开始，我们的重点变得轻

松一点儿，着重在欢乐的期待，因为“主已临近

了”。

遗憾的是，很多教友会再一次地担心还没有完

成的节日准备或者礼物单子上还没有买的礼物，

而完全漏掉这个“喜乐主日”整个的意义。当我们

庆祝和平君王的诞生时却充满了焦虑，岂不是太

悲哀了吗？

让我们再一次地提醒自

己，圣诞节不仅仅是彩灯或

闪亮的礼物。不要为小小的

事情而烦恼抱怨，让我们注目诞生在马槽中的小

圣婴，他将驱除我们心里和念头中的黑暗。

夕，下午五点钟在大教堂有双语（英文及西班牙

文）的家庭弥撒，晚上十点钟我们有三种语言的

圣诞夜弥撒（英文、西班牙文及中文）。12月25

日（星期天）圣诞节当天的弥撒时间与平常主日

弥撒时间相同。请大家尽力参加圣诞节的弥撒。

庆祝圣家 12月25日（圣诞节主日），上午十点半的西

班牙弥撒中，我们将在传统的圣诞弥撒中纪念圣

家。邀请大家的参加。请各位家长把您的孩子装

扮成牧羊人、天使、或者穿着自己国家的传统服

装。弥撒后在底层教堂享用点心。

三王来朝节日 三王来朝节当日（2017年1月8日），十点半

的弥撒后，我们继续为堂区的婴儿到十岁的儿童

分发礼物的传统，地点在学校礼堂。如果您想要

捐献礼物，请包装好并注明是为男孩或者女孩，

为婴儿或者具体年龄的孩子。捐献的礼物请于12
