Our Faith, as a Family, Building our Future

PASTOR’S CORNER

GROWTH

In today’s reading we hear about growth. The first reading from the

prophet Ezekiel refers to growth that was going to occur with the people of

Israel who were in captivity in Babylon. The prophet gave the people hope

that in the future the ―green tree‖ (Babylon) would ―wither up‖ and the

―withered tree‖ (Israel) would ―bloom.‖ This did occur for the people when

King Cyrus defeated the Babylonians and allowed them to return to their

homeland. (And of course Israel is still a nation but what happened to Baby-

lon?) In the Gospel Jesus talks of the growth that occurs from the littlest

seed, the mustard seed. Growth is an important and necessary part of our lives. Just over a

week ago our 8th grade students from Sacred Heart School graduated. I was

here when they began kindergarten, and how they’ve grown. Perhaps you

remember when you were a child and some relative would make some com-

ment like, ―My, how you have grown.‖ Wouldn’t it be nice if people made

positive comments about our spiritual growth. Often, our spiritual growth

ends with the conclusion of our catechism classes, our catholic school gradu-

ation or the last sacrament we received. It ought to be the opposite. These

moments should be our stepping stones in more growth. As St. Paul says in

the second reading: ―We walk by, faith not by sight.‖ Let us pray that we

may walk with growing faith and that others just might make the comment

about our spiritual life: ―My, how you have grown.‖ Peace.

Fr. Tom CONGRATULATIONS FR. JUAN CANO AND FR. PARKER SANDO-

VAL– On Saturday, May 30, Deacon Juan Cano and Deacon Parker Sando-

val were ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles along

with their classmates, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angeles. Fr. Par-

ker will celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving here at Sacred Heart to-

day, Sunday, June 14, at the 11:00am and 2:30pm Masses. And Fr. Juan will

celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving here on Sunday, June 21, at the 11:00am

and 2:30pmMasses.

FAREWELL TO FR. JAMES – Next Sunday, June 21, will be the last day

that Fr. James will be with us here at Sacred Heart. We are thankful for his

service here and for filling in after the departure of Fr. Eben. Asking God’s

blessing upon him in his future ministry.

PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL – Our Parish Pastoral Council has this

mission statement: ―Our purpose is to assist our pastor in the pastoral care of

the parish community. We are a consultative body that provides an additional

means of communication between the faithful and the pastor.‖ This year 3

members need to be replaced and we are requesting your input. If you have

any parishioner that you feel would be able to assist in this consultative role

please call the parish office and leave the name with the secretary to give to

Fr. Tom.

rishioners, who has pledged, will reveal

more of our New Sacred Heart Church.

ANSWER: The current size of our Sa-

cred Heart Sacristy is 12’ X 16’. This is

small in comparison to other Church’s

Sacristies in our Antelope Valley. The

Sacristy is shared by the Priests, Deacons,

Altar Servers, Eucharistic Ministers, and

Music Ministry making it challenging for

all the various ministries to perform their

functions for Liturgy. The plans for the

new Sacred Heart church’s Sacristy will

be larger accommodating the needs of

ministries for Liturgical services.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Jesús manifiesta su poder mediante el perdón de los pecados (Marcos 2:1-12). Por medio de la reconciliación con Dios, Jesús sana a los enfermos, marginalizados y hasta sus propios enemigos. Este poder de perdonar pecados Jesús mismo lo encarga a su Iglesia, infundiendo su Espíritu sobre los primeros discípulos (Juan 20:22-23). Según el Símbolo (Credo) de los Apóstoles, los cristianos creemos en el “perdón de los pecados”. MENSAJE DEL PÁRROCO

CRECIMIENTO

En las lecturas de hoy escuchamos sobre el crecimiento. La Primera Lectura del profeta Ezequiel se refiere al crecimiento que iba a ocurrir con el pueblo de Israel cautivo en Babilonia. El profeta le dio al pueblo una esperanza de l fu tu ro : e l “á rbo l verde” (Babilonia) se “marchitará” y el “árbol marchito” (Israel) “reverdecerá”. Esto ocurrió al pueblo cuando el rey Ciro derrotó a los babilonios y les permitió regresar a su patria. (Por supuesto, Israel es todavía una nación pero, ¿qué pasó con Babilonia). En el Evangelio Jesús pone el ejemplo dAe la semilla de mostaza: aun siendo pequeña, una vez sembrada crece muchísimo. El crecimiento es necesario, esto es una parte importante para nuestras vidas. Hace poco más de una semana los estudiantes del 8vo. Grado de la escuela del Sagrado Corazón se graduaron. Yo fui testigo de su crecimiento desde que comenzaron en el Kindergarten y como ellos crecieron. Probablemente usted recuerde cuando era niño y algún pariente le decía “como has crecido”. ¿No sería muy agradable si alguna persona hiciera comentarios positivos sobre nuestro crecimiento espiritual? A menudo nuestro crecimiento espiritual termina con el Catecismo o con la graduación de la escuela católica o con el ultimo Sacramento que recibimos. Sin embargo, debería de ser al contrario. Esos momentos debería ser unos peldaños importantes para continuar con nuestro mayor crecimiento espiritual. Así nos dice san Pablo en la Segunda Lectura: “Caminamos guiados por la fe, sin ver todavía”. Oremos para que caminemos con una fe en continuo crecimiento para que otros comenten acerca de nuestra vida espiritual y digan: “Como has crecido.” Paz. P. Tom.

Fuera de la Iglesia habrá unos voluntarios que estarán a algunas de sus inquietudes acerca de la Campaña de Construcción. Por favor acérquense a ellos y si no han hecho una PROMESA los animamos a que lo hagan, sin ninguna duda usted será bendecido por DIOS. También, vea el termómetro y mire nuestro progreso, estamos muy animados con el apoyo de todos ustedes que servirá para de las futuras generaciones. DIOS los colme de bendiciones siempre!

¿Aproximadamente de que tamaño es la sacristía de la actual Iglesia? Respuesta: El tamaño de la sacristía del actual templo es de: 12’ X 16’. Esta mediada es muy pequeña en comparación con otros del Valle del Antílope. Los sacerdotes comparten la sacristía con los ministerios litúrgicos.
