This year we used that freedom to add 76 new parts to our catalog while building a whole heap of new bikes. PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PROCESS

MANUFACTURING AND TESTING

Taking an idea from an image in your head to a finished product is a long journey, usually starting with a bike build. Two parts of the bike may need to be connected, a section might need to be cleaned up or an area lightened. Sometimes a part just doesn’t work as well as it could. We put our collective heads together to come up with ideas to solve the problem. We sketch on napkins, sheet metal or any material within reach. We cut, weld, bend, machine and hammer ideas out of steel, billet aluminum, stainless, rubber and plastic. Once we have a solid representation of an idea we reverse engineer and 3D model the parts on the computer, print final rapid prototypes, test fit and send our designs off to Performance Machine for further analysis, engineering, testing and eventually manufacturing. On bike testing takes place through the entire development process and up until the very end. Every bike we build is ridden hard, like we expect our customers would do.

Black Ops™ has taken black finishing to a new level of quality and detail. Black Ops has both textured black and a gloss black finish on one part. It’s aggressive, yet subtle.

RSD Contrast Cut™ product starts with a finely machined, polished and black anodized part which is re-machined to bring out the design highlights. Close attention is paid to machine pattern and quality to ensure the best and cleanest machine work.

RSD offers the best chrome in the business by starting off with a hand polished surface preparation followed by layers of high quality, durable chrome. You will not see a shinier chrome.

Our brass parts are simple, raw and golden giving your bike just the right amount of soul. Finely machined brass is left in it’s natural state and overtime will take on a feel unique to your environment.

Our Aluminum products are first hand polished and then anodized with a UV resistant black anodize that will hold it’s color and increase durability and prevent oxidation. Our steel parts all receive a high quality surface prep followed by industry leading powder coat finish in either Gloss or Satin Black powder for a smooth flawless finish that protects it from the elements.

Performance Machine produces the highest quality products on the market today from their state-of-the -art manufacturing facility in La Palma, CA. RSD motorcycle accessories are licensed to Performance Machine and they handle the engineering, testing, manufacturing, sales, and warranty. Each RSD product is made from the best certified and documented materials and are meticulously engineered to meet international standards such as JASO and TUV. All products undergo rigorous and intensive testing for strength and longevity at Performance Machine’s in-house testing facility, never compromising our vision for both function and aesthetics.


CLARITY LINEIt’s what’s on the inside that counts. With the RSD Clarity line, your engines inner workings are on display. Designed and cut with the form of the true working components in mind, the Clarity line adds that extra level of detail, showing off what is usually hidden.

The RSD Clarity Derby Cover is the next best thing to an open primary. Articulately machined billet aluminum frames transparent polycarbonate, giving you the same feel of a spinning clutch pack, yet is fully enclosed. Now you can show off that trick clutch.

Ever wanted to know what your air intake is doing? Now you can check it out while it’s sealed tightly behind transparent polycarbonate and machined billet aluminum. The RSD Clarity Air Cleaner exposes your fuel delivery system as no other intake system can.

We’ve set out to expose the heart of the twin cam engine with the RSD Clarity Timing Cover. It’s finely machined billet housing and transparent polycarbonate lenses show you a view of the cam gears, chain and support plate, exposing the inner workings.

When RSD set out to create an air cleaner, we wanted to make something that improved performance as well as the look of a bike. We ended up revolutionizing what an air cleaner can be in both function and aesthetics.

The new RSD Turbine Air cleaner took some major design cues from jet engines. This is the next step in intake systems for your bike. We focused our efforts on building something that would flow well while also giving a unique and timeless style that looks good on any bike.

VENTURI RETRO-FIT KIT

If you have purchased a RSD Air Cleaner in the past, but have fallen for one of our new styles, you can now update your air cleaner to compliment your RSD wheels, by just replacing the faceplate.

If you purchased your RSD air cleaner prior to 2010 and notice any oil dripping from the bottom filter element, this FREE kit cleans up the pesky problem. We have found that some engines make excessive crankcase pressure causing them to spew a bit more oil than others up through the breathers. This retrofit consists of slotted-head breather bolts and injection molded rubber tubes that fit securely into the backing plate of your existing air cleaner. In the early days HD was making a name for itself on dirtracks worldwide against Triumph, BSA, Indian and countless other brands. When it comes to big twins HD seems to of forgotten how much fun a massive V-twin can be in the dirt. That takes us to our Blackline. First we fully stripped her down and chopped off everything extra. Next was to add back to get her dirtrack ready. 19” RSD Judge wheels are the biggest attitude change along with Goodyears, a new fender and mount, RSD spring seat kit, prototype bars and gauge re-locator, among a host of other little changes and RSD parts. Dirty and narrow minded, just the way we like it.

For us, rotor design is more than just mimicking the look of our wheels; it is both science and art. Its taking all that we have learned through the years and improving upon it. We design each rotor from the ground up and analyze every detail’s function along the way. Our two-piece design allows the rotor to expand and contract when heated from the friction caused by the brake pad. Our wheels begin with an aerospace quality, aluminum forgings that place the highest material strength in the same direction as the operating load, creating a light and strong wheel. From there we create the array of styles you see on our bikes throughout this catalog using CAD design software. Each wheel design must pass rigorous and intensive testing.

WHEEL TESTING

The radial load testing machine simulates a load on a tire/wheel assembly while taking miles and miles of road with the occasional beating. The wheel is forced to endure countless rotations with one flaw sending the design back to the drawing board.

The torsional load testing machine simulates starting and stopping, as well as the occasional burn out. Load sensitive rams cycle back and forth replicating real world style torture in an attempt to rip the hub out of the rim.

The massive impact testing unit simulates the pot holes and road hazards that a wheel is subjected to in the real world. Each and every wheel design is wrapped with a tire and a hard edge hit is replicated. The wheel must retain air pressure for a specific time in order to pass.

Side load testing replicates the incredible stress a wheel is subjected to during cornering. You can trust your RSD wheels will withstand those canyon roads and track days because they’ve come out of the simulated side load test unscathed.

One of our most popular wheels, the Diesel is clean yet mean. We introduced the drilled rim lip speed dots on this wheel to help compliment it’s simple design and give it just enough pop to be a stand out. The Diesel wheel will flow with whatever bike you put it on.

HURLEY SCRAMBLER/CAFE


The Hurley Sportster started as a collaboration with Hurley and RSD to build a surf worthy café bike. We shot a few pictures of her as a café racer and somewhere on the way to the beach we decided moto bars, dual purpose tires and a solo seat were a better fit and she was transformed into the Hurley Scrambler. It really goes to show what a versatile bike the sportster is and how easy it is to change a few parts and get something very different.

DESMO TRACKER


Some call it Sacrilege, some call it madness and others call it more fun than you should be allowed to have on a motorcycle. No matter how you stack it, the Desmo Tracker was a shocking build. We started with a Ducati Desmocedici Moto GP replica and ended with a Desmo powered Dirt eating monster we call the Desmo Tracker. The results are a 200 HP street legal Moto GP Flat Tracker finished with love and care by the team at RSD in about two months.

WIDEGLIDE FORK BRACE

When the front fender is removed from the stock forks it may look good but you end up with a “flexy flyer” that twists and sways more than a drunken sailor. We found this out when we started putting wide, 21” wheels on our Softails. Bring the performance back by keeping your front wheel going in the direc-tion you point it.

Chrome:

Wash with mild soap and water, use a healthy coat of Carnuba, apply often with a soft cloth.

Black Anodized:

Wash with mild soap and water, no detergents or harsh chemical cleaners that can destroy the black anodized finish. You may use a non-abrasive wax with UV protectant on the black anodized portion of the product to protect it. Never use a harsh or abrasive wax as it will remove the black anodized finish. Avoid exposure to UV rays whenever possible.

Contrast Cut:

See above for Black Anodized portion. For the milled area on standard Contrast Cut wash with mild soap and water, no detergents or harsh chemical cleaners. To remove stains on the milled area you may use the following methods depending upon the condition of the wheel.

• A mild MAG polish will remove mild stains from the milled area, but will make the milled area shiny as it contains some abrasives. CAUTION: Take extreme care not to use this on the black ano surface of any product as it will remove the black finish.

• Scotch bright can be used to remove more severe stains on the milled area. CAUTION: Measures should be taken up to and including masking to ensure that the black ano surface of any product is not damaged.

Black-Ops Finish:

Wash with mild soap and water. No detergents or harsh chemical cleaners should be used, as they can destroy the anodized finish. Wax and/or cleaners containing wax are not recommended as they may leave an uneven finish on the matte black surface. Detail spray or WD40 also work well for “dry cleaning” or wipe-down. Due to semi-rough surface of the Black Ops finish, we recommend using a micro-fiber or other lint free type of cloth so as not leave behind any remnants of the cloth.

Implied warranties, including those of fitness for a particular purpose and merchantability, are limited in duration to the one (1) year term of this express warranty. reTurNsProduct purchased through Drag Specialties is subject to the terms of the Performance Machine warranty and as such we will repair or replace product deemed to fall within the warranty terms. For product purchased from Performance Machine no returns will be accepted without prior authorization by calling or writing Performance Machine, LLC to request an RMA number. Parts will only be considered for return if the request is made within 30 days from the date of invoice. A handling fee will be charged to restock parts unless otherwise specified. Performance Machine, Inc. reserves the right to refuse to issue an RMA at our discretion.
