JOSEPH HOLT T20 ROUND-UP

Northwich reach inter-group play-off SCORING their second mid-Cheshire derby victory – by 62 runs at Davenham last Thursday -

Northwich became the first club to win through the initial group stages of the Joseph Holt T20

knock-out.

Skipper Mark Walker led the way to a handy 190-5 tally in Group 5 at Butcher’s Stile with an

unbeaten 80, before Davenham replied with 128, Oli Gallagher 37, brothers Matthew and Andy

Dufty taking 4-7 and 3-10 respectively.

In Group 2, Upton beat Wirral neighbours Oxton by six wickets, with Tom Marsland unbeaten on

88 out of 172-4. Dane Williams had top-scored with 56 for Oxton, who lost by six wickets.

Also in Group 2, Warrington lost by 94 runs in their derby game at home to Grappenhall.

Group 6 saw Oulton Park beat Tattenhall by 38 runs in a high-scoring game at Little Budworth.

In Group 8, Brooklands raised 224-3, then restricted Urmston to 78. Man of the match was Kevin

Carroll with an innings of 112 not out (eight fours and seven sixes). Carroll then took the last two

Urmston wickets for no runs.

In the same group Didsbury won by 108 runs at Sale, MofM Jack Rudd with 59 and 3-27.

In an unreported match from the previous week in Group 10, Bredbury ran up 224-2 (D’Souza 85)

to win by 19 runs at home to Romiley, for whom Major Khan amassed 129.

O All queries should be directed to Competition secretary Geoff Wellsteed, who reminds clubs of

the new ruling which allows games unplayed due to rain to be mutually re-arranged within six days.

If that is not achievable, both teams receive one point.

OVER FORTIES ROUND-UP

Blazers beat champions REIGNING champions Neston lost by nine wickets at Chester Boughton Hall Blazers in a key

West Division game in the Over Forties Section last Wednesday to take a decisive early

advantage.

In the South-East Division, Alderley Edge Wizards and Bollington Veterans beat Woodley and

Bramhall respectively and look likely to make the running throughout the summer.

Sale Silverbacks won their third game in the North-East Division to take a comfortable early lead.

Timperley continue to top the Central group, ending Grappenhall’s unbeaten run with a 52-run win

at Stockport road. Timperley umpire Robin Maddocks commented in as telephone chat next

morning: “There has been mention in the Newsletter of the good sporting spirit in the Forties this

season. This was another such game, both sides showing up in the very best light. I have nothing

but prise for the Grappenhall lads, who lost Neil Fairbrother stumped early chasing 138, and never

looked like making it. Personally, I cannot wait for Wednesday evenings to come round”.

Home clubs are urged to use the website as the favoured method of reporting results – with full
