are returning. We look forward to an energized year
with more tournaments, social events, clinics and

be of great service helping with croquet events that
Scott brings us, which is an integral part in helping the

When to Call a Fault?
(Never, if these guys are your opponents!)
Common 6-wicket Faults/Errors
Hitting a ball you’re dead on.
Avoid this by checking the deadness
board before shooting.
Not moving the croqueted ball
when doing a Take –off.
Avoid this by insuring that croqueted
ball is touching striker ball.
Not getting out of bounds on a
roquet attempt.
If you fail in hitting your targeted ball
and are not out of bounds, your oppo-
nent can now use you for a target.
Golf Croquet Faults
Touching opponents ball.
Attempting to force or shoot the
wicket when your ball is touch-
ing the stanchion. This is a
“crush!” Avoid by repositioning ball
and shooting wicket on next turn.

Judging from their smiles, I’d say that this
program is a huge success!

ble and educational programs that benefit
both individuals and society.

Whitehall, the name of Henry Flagler’s estate was completed in 1902 and
later became The Flagler Museum. This was at a time in history when our
economy experienced unheard of growth. Alexander Bell invented the
telephone and Thomas Edison, the light bulb. But the creation of the
transcontinental railway was the most influential improvement to change
our culture. This was the “Gilded Age.” And croquet became the game of
choice for these individuals who amassed fortunes during this time. Why?
It was the only sport that ladies could enjoy with their husbands and
friends that didn’t reveal too much!

About this Newsletter
I started this newsletter several years ago so we could all
learn more about one another and about our beautiful club. It
is truly something to celebrate! So many volunteers are be-
hind the scenes making this club what it is. Many have been
doing it for years! For example, John and Anthea Blamire,
for years, have been organizing the Saturday community
classes and of course the Ruth Brown Tuesday games. Dick
Brackett started the community Summer League, nine
summers ago and it has grown every year under his direc-
tion. Victoria Albrecht continues to co-ordinate the Special
Olympics, a program where NCC volunteers as well as vol-
unteers from neighboring clubs teach special kids to play the
game. So much fun and rewarding! Don Whalen, started
Twilight Croquet five years ago and now during season
there’s up to 40 players!
So go with your passion and join us! Contact Marie for vol-
unteer opportunities. Newsletter correspondents are needed
too!

CFA President’s Corner For our full-time residents and those just returning, I hope you’re pleased with the many improvements the CFA and our staff at the NCC made over the summer. Many more are currently underway or planned.
We sustained about $5,000 in physical losses due to the hurricane as well as a loss of $9,000 due to cancelled events this year. I hope you’ll consider joining us for the following fun, fundraising event and tournaments, to help us with those losses… or simply make a tax- deductible donation to CFA.
DO N’ T MI SS T HIS!
A Vintage Car and Hemingway’s Daiquiri Bar will be just part of
A RED-HOT HAVANA NIGHT! It’s a fun-filled evening with cocktails, a silent auction of over 50 items, “A Taste of Cuba” gourmet buffet, lively music & dancing, and the most famous people in croquet! All this happens on Friday, Nov. 17, starting at 6:00 PM at the National Croquet Center.
The highlight of the evening, after cocktails, will be the induction into the United States Croquet Hall of Fame of Digby Bridges, renowned croquet devotee and famous architect who designed and built the NCC. This is followed immediately by dinner and dancing the night away in the ballroom. This is a benefit for the CFA to raise funds for the operation and continued improvement of the National Croquet Center.
See Marie or call her at (561) 478-2300 X3 for tickets.
Save these dates for the CFA’s other two fun fundraisers in support of the Center:
