Railways as an option before embarking on a 8-lane BRTS, involving cutting of

thousands of trees. There is very good connectivity between the two cities by rail and the

same could have been improved with little effort rather than developing a 8-lane road,

which is more polluting and which encourages private transport rather than public

transport.

6. Even now, thousands of trees and hundreds of crores of rupees can be saved if

proper alternatives are explored like railways.

7. Over 18,000 people (including 12,000 online on website www.change.org) have signed a

petition to the government in support of the movement launched by the Committee.

8. Taking note of the concerns raised by the citizens, the World Bank (which has provided a

loan on Rs. 550 crores to Govt. of Karnataka for this project) has invited the Committee

for a discussion on June 15,, 2013.

9. The Hubballi-Dharwad BRTS Environment Action Committeecalls all the citizens of

Hubballi-Dharwad, including elected representatives of the twin-cities, viz. MP, MLAs

and Corporators to participate in the Satyagraha on 5th June at 10 am at BRTS office,

KSFC Building, next to ISKON, Rayapur, Dharwad, to preserve a better environment

for themselves and present a greener future for their children!
