Draws Cleaner Incoming Power
REGEN synchronizes active transistors with the incoming line voltage, drawing a clean sinusoidal current for 5% or less harmonics.
Captures Regenerative Power
REGEN returns power from the motor to the power grid for reuse in nearby loads.
What Makes REGEN Better The Power of Regenerative Technology
REGEN offers responsive, low-maintenance pump control and speed regulation for
cleaner-powered pumping. Advanced engineering combines proven Lufkin Well Manager™
(LWM) technology for well diagnostics, Variable Speed Drive (VSD) capabilities for pump
speed regulation, and new Active Front End (AFE) technology to regenerate power when
overhauling loads occur. The all-in-one system eliminates external Dynamic Braking
Resistors (DBRs) by capturing energy returning from the motor and passing it to the
distribution point in its originally delivered state for reuse. REGEN is exceptionally
efficient when multiple loads connect to a single power meter.
REGEN is an ideal choice when the local power grid calls for
cleaner power consumption, braking resistors pose a hazard,
or external harmonic filters do not meet requirements.
AFE technology gives REGEN a near-unity power factor without external harmonic filters.
REGEN actively responds to changes in incoming line voltages to lower harmonics
levels to below five percent, preventing power surges commonly seen when using speed
drives with traditional passive filters. The system also meets IEEE 519-1992 at full load
regardless of incoming voltage or imbalance.
Standard VSDs conduct energy only when incoming voltage is higher than internal DC voltage, drawing an irregular current for 40% or more harmonics.
Standard VSDs must release returning energy as heat through Dynamic Braking Resistors.

Two Systems, One Interface
One cabinet and interface makes REGEN with LWM so
easy to set up, even a novice can install and program the
systems with little difficulty. Use the Quick Start activation
to trigger REGEN and LWM default operating parameters,
any of which can be fine-tuned for greater pumping control.
If speed or other factors require attention when you can’t
get to the field, use your remote SCADA interface to make
on-the-fly adjustments quickly and easily. An optional heater
is also available for colder climates to help maintain proper
operation of the LCD display and other internal components.
Smart Controls for More Efficient Operation
REGEN and LWM features work together to adjust the pump
rate to a well’s conditions on every stroke based on the
previous stroke, reducing maintenance and operating costs.
Inherent direct control algorithms offer strength and
protection, delivering full torque to the pump at zero speed
while staying within strict torque limits to reduce mechanical
stress. Designed to slow a unit just enough to avoid working
load violations, REGEN also manages rod float problems and
peak rod load issues with heavy oil.
Accessories for Even Better Performance
To compliment your REGEN, Lufkin Automation offers Rod
Pump Controller (RPC) transducer kits suitable for all types of
pumping units. All of our transducers work with Lufkin RPCs
and are manufactured to the highest quality standards. Talk
to a representative for more details about transducer options
that could work for you.
Accurate well data is right at your fingertips. Easily view and modify default parameters using the Quick Start page.
Examine real-time dynamometer card readings. Track production efficiency using the strokes per minute display.
