SUMMER SCHOOL NEWS Looking to keep your student busy this summer?

We still have opportunities to earn Silver Cord volunteer hours

for students who are wanting to make a difference during the

Summer School Session that runs from June 10 - July 3. Students

may pick up the Summer School Volunteer Application Form

from Mrs. Wilkinson at the High School Summer School/

Processing Office (Room 113). If you have any questions, please

contact her at (608)868-9795 or via email

[email protected].

Students may indicate their preference for an enrichment class,

administrators will assign volunteers to classes based on need. Once the student is assigned to a

class, it is the student’s responsibility to sign in and out of the office each day, record and submit

their volunteer hours to the Silver Cord Coordinator. The summer school program does NOT track

or submit hours for students.

Seniors, graduation is right around the corner! If you are planning on attending college next year don’t

forget to request your final transcripts for college through Parchment. To order your final transcripts

please go back into your parchment account and place a new transcript request. Then select the "Hold

for Grades" option after you select your destination. Please stop in the counseling office and see Ms.

Williams if you have any questions.

Changes to AP Testing for 2019-20 School Year

There are some big changes coming to Advanced Placement (AP) classes beginning with the 2019-20

school year. The AP experience will largely remain the same—students still sign up for classes at the

same time, and exams will still be administered in May—but there are a few changes they’ll notice

throughout the 2019-20 school year.

FALL COMMITMENT - Students will sign up for AP Exams in the fall. In October, we will provide

directions on how to register and will place the exam order for students.

NEW RESOURCES - Students will get personalized feedback through new digital tools that provide

daily support for every AP classroom. Their teachers will be able to track their performance

throughout the year using an online bank of real AP practice questions and monthly personal

progress checks.

EXAM COSTS - The exam fee and the fee reduction will not change for the 2019-20 school year, but

The CollegeBoard is introducing two new fees - one for late registration and another for cancel-

ing the exam. These fees encourage students to commit to the exams early and stay engaged

throughout the year, increasing their chances of earning college credit. Students who do not

register to take the AP test by the Fall Deadline, but decide to take the AP test in the spring will

be charged an additional $40 fee. Students who do register to take the AP test by the Fall

Deadline, but decide NOT to take the test will forgo the non-refundable $40 deposit.

AP Student’s To-Do List:

This summer: visit apstudent.collegeboard.org to learn more about AP courses and exams.

Students without a College Board account should create one and set their password. They’ll

need their username and password when their AP classes start in the fall.

Students who already have an account should make sure they know their username and

password.

September 2019: Teachers will give students a join code for each of their AP classes.

Students use their College Board username and password and join code to enroll in their

class section.

October/November 2019: Students register to take their AP exam(s) and schools submit exam

orders.

May 2020: Students take AP Exams.

July 2020: AP Exam scores are released.

Milton FBLA spent three days in Green Bay, Wisconsin earlier this month for the Wisconsin FBLA State Leadership

Conference. Nine students earned their spot to compete and represent Milton High School this year at the Regional

competition. Students compete, either submit a project, give a presentation or speech, or take a test for the first

time at the Regional level. Being the largest region in the state of Wisconsin, the competition is fierce for earning a

spot in the top three of an event to advance. Students only pick one event and have one shot to qualify for State.

Maddy Brovick competed in Advertising, Tim Wallace in Introduction to Business Procedures, and Julia Jaecks in

Introduction to FBLA, all of which were multiple choice tests on their given topic. Maisy Dyhr prepared a cover let-

ter and resume for a mock interview, Caralyne Silha, Todd Myers, and Alton Banushi created an e-commerce web-

site and gave a presentation on their idea to a panel of judges, and Ellen Toberman prepared a speech for a panel

of judges on the goals of FBLA. Adam Kuglitsch was able to attend the Leadership Academy seminar that coincided

with the State conference and gained valuable networking and leadership skills.

Maddy Brovick finished in the top 8, but did not advance whereas Tim Wallace placed second and earned a spot to

attend Nationals. The E-Business team of Caralyne, Todd, and Alton also placed second and will represent Milton

High School in San Antonio this summer. With each level of advancement, though, the costs rise astronomically.

The Chapter paid over nearly $1,500.00 just to send the students to State and is now looking to raise nearly

$4,000.00 for the Nationals trip. Between flights, required hotel assignments, registration for the five-day confer-

ence, food while on the trip, and exploring the city, the students have already paid a significant down payment and

are hoping to offset the costs through business sponsorships. If you know a business that may be interested in mak-

ing a donation to help these students attend, please contact Sheryl Avery at the High School via email

([email protected]) or send a check to the high school written to MHS FBLA. Any and all money we can

raise will help!

Milton FBLA is already preparing and looking ahead to the 2019-2020 school year and continuing to

increase membership and our “winning” streak. Milton FBLA has consistently sent a national quali-

fier for over the last eight years and because of that, students have had the opportunity to network

with others from all over the country and gain invaluable leadership and business skills!

MHS CONGRATULATES FIRST GEAC GRADUATE!

MHS Global Education is pleased to congratulate our first MHS Global Education

Achievement Certificate (GEAC) graduate, Senior Abby Vidruk. The GEAC is a DPI

program recognizing students who emphasize global learning in their education. Mil-

ton High School earned DPI approval to offer the program to students in 2015. Students

voluntarily participate in this rigorous four-year program, designed to internationalize

their learning and provide interdisciplinary opportunities, preparing them for Col-

lege, Careers, and Life in the global realities of our world.

The GEAC program spans all 4 years of a student’s MHS career and involves extensive

multicultural reading & media analysis, participation in cultural community events, a rigorous program

of MHS coursework, and a service project designed to help a global community.

As part of the program, MHS Global Scholar Candidates must present a portfolio of their work to a panel

consisting of the Global Coordinator, an underclassman

Global Scholar Candidate, and 1 or 2 additional school

leaders (such as a teacher, administrator, or board mem-

ber). Abby, a student of French, will complete the require-

ments this spring. Abby’s service project was the Milton

Peace Garden in Schilberg Park. She was inspired to under-

take this project following the November 2015 Bataclan ter-

rorist attacks in Paris which took place her freshman year.

Abby also participated in the MHS France trip in 2018. As

part of her trip, she and other MHS French students visited

the Bataclan site and memorial, the inspiration for Abby’s

Peace Garden project. This experience was a powerful per-

sonal connection between the city of Paris and our Milton community. We are so proud of Abby and

wish her the best as she pursues her future goals as a true global citizen!

You can learn more about the GEAC program in Wisconsin here: https://dpi.wi.gov/international-

education/achievement-certificate

cation Achievement Certificate (or their parents) can find out

Milton FFA Plant Sale Students in both Plant Science ES classes and the Ag Business and Leadership classes have helped pre-

pare the greenhouse for the annual Plant Sale. Students planted all of the seeds, transplanted many

plugs, created all hanging baskets and planters, and created all signs for the plants. The students have

done a fabulous job and are excited to

show off all of their hard work. The stu-

dents have gained so many new skills by

working with the plants in the green-

house. These are pictures from the

greenhouse and show off the hanging

baskets that students created and the

many blooms that are in the greenhouse

already. Please see the plant sale flyer
